    I'm limited experience, tried Beaver Craft, and the little thin handle was built well, but my medium/large hands were hurting. I was agreeing it's to thick. I'm a Blacksmith Hobbiest and keep it cool and thin it to 14 mm because I purchased 3 Badger State Blades and tried to size them equally and I'm good at sharpen but out of the box the Badger State Blades does cut much better. Question? How do you rate Badger State Blades if you have experienced them as they are new business but have roots in their experience.

Mine is the small one, I have the large one but I don't like it as much. I keep both blades as sharp as any of my carving knives and carving is all I use it for. Thanks for the video

    I just built mine. One thing I changed is I made the rear board (the one you put the 45° cut on) longer and now use it to carve in the seated position when I’m tired of standing up. When I first built it, I figured I could just cut it shorter if it doesn’t work but, it works surprisingly well.

    Just started golf ball carving and am glad you posted this to give me ideas. I did wizards on sticks just to see what carving is all about. So far, I can measure success by stab wounds and cuts and number of bandages... which indicates that I'm making slow progress. I'm also doing watercolor painting and somehow manage to wound myself doing that as well. But this might be a good, next project... which would be after I complete a dog face and a penguin from a stick. Thanks.

But I thought I had to go outside to carve so I haven't started, now knowing I can carve in the house I'm going to try a heart. Actually carving a heart might just be poetic in my case lol. Gorilla Super Glue works great too. Sets up very quickly and you can be back to carving on the piece in a minute or less. It is very strong also. It does have a little smell, so if that bothers you better stick to Elmers.

    • @countrycarving9744
      @countrycarving9744 2 года назад

      Sorry for the delayed response! When starting out I usually recommend Flexcut tools. They are quality and a decent price. Otherwise, two sites that I have used in the past are www.chippingaway.com or Lee Valley at www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/hand-tools/carving-tools both have a few different options for you to try. No, you should not need to sharpen the tools when you first purchase them. However, as you carve you will want to strop your tools so that they keep their edge longer between each actual sharpening.
