- Many people know Samsung is the titanic and confusing business conglomerate in South Korea - known to be so dominant that some call the country the Republic of Samsung. But for many years the country’s economic development was not led by Samsung but instead its competitor Hyundai.
In this re-recorded video, we look at the true rags to riches story of Hyundai Group and its mythical founder Chung Ju Yung. We review the largest business lines in the Hyundai Group chaebol (conglomerate) and consider the broad government spending trends that the company rode to the very top.

And not even a mention of poor old Daewoo. I remember when they launched in the UK. They made a big deal of the fact that they made everything from ships to parts for the shuttle programme. As far as I remember they ended up selling the car division to GM
Daewoo is a whole story on its own but to summarize what happened to them there was massive fraudulent accounting within the company to hide debts, it's the South Korean equivalent of Enron

Now it is really Asianometry and not Chinanometry. It is great that you are also doing some videos which are not Chinese related (even if it must be harder for you). I hope you will also make some videos about Japan or India... because Asia is quite big and diverse. However for this video, were you on speed or you must have woke up fresh as never before. Also the video about Hyundai could have been more in depth but it is maybe a part 1. Anyway keep up the good work.

Interesting -- I suspect Hyundai's story was fodder for the numerous Korean dramas that portrayed chaebols both good and bad.
Combined together, all the Hyundai named companies are larger than all the Samsung ones.

Please do Daewoo. Also, even though Hyundai Electronics could not compete, in the auto sector it's the other way around; Samsung Motors could not compete and after AFC was purchased by Renault to become Renault Samsung. And just recently, Samsung has sold its remaining shares to Renault and is now Renault Korea Motors, ending Samsung's botched auto dream.

CSSC built more ships but hyundai is much bigger in revenue and tonnage than them
