I kickstarted this game and was able to talk to the devs about the DM vs Player copies of the game. My idea was you have a DM who wants full functionality while the players just need limited functionality. They're not doing any world building so why charge them for a full copy of the game. Their response was they had no plans on implementing a "player" tier of the game.
You have a point, but the only other way to finance the games future is to charge for updates. I'd rather they maximize finances up front and mitigate the monetization of seasons or minis for as long as possible. Also, managing the development of two versions may be a bit over the scope of a team of 10.
@@looking4themountain Why not do a sub based service like inkarnate? Have a basic $5/year or free one for players. That way they can see what's possible and be more inclined to buy it. Then DMs pay a higher price like $20/year.
@@Heyimjak I get what your saying. A "trial" version of sorts would feels viable. They'll have to figure out a way to be competitive with One D&D when each goes official. I really love Talespire. Just don't know how their going keep it going without micro transactions.
@@looking4themountain Then they should be charging more up front for their product. This isn't a video game, it's a HOBBY game, and needing to spend 30 bucks for something you might only use once is a tall order. Talespire has potential but if they dont get themselves really ready for the hobby game style, then something is gonna come along and completely knock them out of the game.
In my D&D group, 2 of us have Talespire. I have one (DM) and another player who also runs other groups who plays as a player. 2nd player streams and has token permissions for the group minis so the players have the player viewpoint, and I play under GM view.
Really just want to send out my gratitude for your videos and encourage you to keep making more. There are SO FEW Talespire content makers aside from "Is Talespire Worth It????" videos. You have a pleasant voice, good pacing, and I'm learning new tricks from. (The flashlight trick is a gamechanger!!!) I really hope we'll continue seeing more videos from you. :)
Thank you! That’s awesome, super glad you’re diggin it. My friends and I are working on a comedy video using talespire rn, kind of robot chicken-esque? Should be done soon ish
The fact that all players and the dm need a copy for full functionality killed it's prospects for me and my table. Having to jump through hoops and workarounds just to implement it on top of paying for it for me to DM and play cameraman sounds annoying and would distract more than enhance my game. Their real threat on the horizon is DnD's own vtt.
I've actually moved more and more away, gradually, from the 3d VTT's. I still have love for TaleSpire but it kind of hampers creativity in a way, maybe the DnDB one will be better
Bro, I've been waiting for a video like this! So good. Also, I really enjoyed the old RPG called Gamma World (played it in the 80s... I wonder where that rule book went...) which was similar in concept to the one you're making.
I was just looking into this, good news the dm can now buy seats so the players can be free guests, bad news it's like 20 bucks a seat, so the average group is going to cost the dm $100, good news it's permanent so compared to something like roll20 pro which is a subscription it will be cheaper if you continue to use it for at least a year, and lets be honest, even with the bugs this looks way better than roll 20 pro.
Tip 1: OMG the legend of a second player screen. THANK YOU THANK YOU! Everyone told me to run it on another computer but I missed this important adding of second version aspect! YESS. If you saw my last comment on one of your videos I was sad due to lack of other players using Talespire. This is perfect! (Heroforge minis still loading though so let's see how we go...) Tip 2: Block colour is a nice idea. I've sort of half done this but doing it fullness would be bestest. With the shared Talespire though I might use the hide volume. Tip 3: Yeah we're using Campaign game log atm. The new Symbiotes has one that brings it in but it's yet to work for me. Tip 4: There's a FLASHLIGHT? I knew about build light but FLASHLIGHT?! I actually don't even know how to get to keybinds... Tip 5: Any tips for minis mods? Also any news if they'll end up on Symbiotes? PS: Alien drugs - haha, noice.
It does, the Seats concept might be more appealing for some people because It’s so much less work, but this should still work if your gpu can handle it
Thanks for the great video! Couple of questions for ya if you have the time How did you get the flashlight beam to be so narrow? Mine is super wide and illuminates a lot of the map space. Also, you may have mentioned it and I missed it but can you run two instances of the game while it's modded?
Hey, I don't think I changed anything about the flashlight and yours sounds terrifying, you may need an exorcist. You might be able to run two instances of the game modded, my "non steam launch" one was unmodded and I just used it to move stuff around, but I don't know enough about tech stuff because I am a simple man.
Could it be possible to use RemoteDesktop or some such to allow players to remotely control things to move tokens/figurines? Then they take turns? Because otherwise this feels like it's loading literally all the work of movement, camera, and terrain set up onto the DM.
It is, and it can be tough to get used to. There is (I think it’s still active?) a mod that allows players to remote in, but there are several steps. The issue with players remoting in on their own is that the “dm screen” would be nonexistent, so you’d have to weigh that against the convenience of them being able to do their thing.
i'm running two instances of the game but whenever i click on the dm window, discord will automatically switch to showing my players that one. it seems to show them whichever talespire window i'm currently using. is there any way to fix this?
I haven’t had that problem, I’m not sure. Are you streaming your screen or the program? If you have dual monitors you could switch to sharing a screen and keeping the player one there
Are you streaming your screen through OBS or something similar? That might be what's wrong. If you stream through discord "show screen" it'll probably only show what you are looking at, vs OBS broadcasting the screen you lock it to.
Great video. If I may offer some criticism, be careful about the tone of your video. There were a lot of jokes in tip 1 that made this seem like a fun goofy video and then tips 2 & 3 had a tone shift of being super informative with the only joke coming at the end of tip 3. Loved all the jokes. Keep up the amazing work!
yeah i kinda put'm in where i thought of something, some of the stuff is in the background in text or whatever through the thing but i know what you mean.
So I kind of gloss over it at 1:55 but mods have different launch parameters that can be added in the games launch preferences. I’m responding from my phone so I don’t have a second monitor to double check how right now and make myself look like I know what I’m talking about.
I clicked on the link but it didnt work. Are you still accepting people into your discord? Id like to join a one shot as a player using this Talespire game.
Hey! I had to slow down a bit, I'd taken on too many side projects and couldn't give the discord the amount of attention it deserved. I'll be starting it up again soon once things settle down this month. I really appreciate the interest tho
Why would the DM have to pay, but the players not? Just have the players pay for their own copy if you all like the program. If you and your players don't have the money, use something free.
@@rogerwilco2 idk, strangers finances are none of my business - or yours. This video came out before the new Seats addition, so I’ll have to update it.

Hello, I really appreciate your video! A quick question, how do you creat multiple profiles to give each character as shown in 2:20 ?
If you right click a mini, and go to gm options - there’s a player permission tab. You can assign minis to any players who have joined your game
