    Hello Pete. Thank you so much for following my suggestion to review this beautiful watch. I told you that you would be surprised with the overall quality and attention to detail. I feel Escudo has been able to achieve a lovely design incorporating very unique and tasteful aspects in a package that is of the utmost quality. In addition, both Simon and Richard, the Owners, are the nicest gentlemen, who along with their team provide world class service. In my humble opinion, i believe these watches are well worth the price, and mine sit very comfortably next to the luxury Swiss Made pieces in my collection. Thank you again Pete for taking the time to review. I hope you enjoy your Escudo as much as i enjoy mine. Be well my friend.

    Looks like a truly handsome watch. I particularly like how the triangle on the seconds hand echoes/interacts with the shape of the other hands and the major indices. That said, "celebrating the bravery of Spanish and Portuguese explorers" is a bit of a loaded conceit over here in the Americas. For everyone? No, but it would be a deciding factor for me and many others.

    One other thing - there are now ‘pre owned’ oris/Tudor/etc., that are on the market, in excellent shape that are within distance (price wise) of many of these micro brands…(or vice versa, these brands are moving up into ‘real brand’ territory)
    Why waste your money on these watches with so-so off the shelf movements (non chronometer, low power reserve, etc), when you can buy a ‘real watch’ with in-house movement, great prestige, etc. for the same money?
    The micro brands better start offering a better deal as they move up the price ladder. If you are still going to put a Sellita 200 in a watch past a point, and want to charge ‘real money’, I want to see precious metal cases, etc.
    Past $1,500, I would save a bit more and get a Tudor or Oris. Used, likely. But still a recognizable brand that has been at it longer.

    I've been on their mailing list from when they were launching. It promised to be interesting, but the overall style and feel as well as genre of this first release remains on the very margins of my interests. Especially at a 13.5mm thickness, despite the movement, it was only ever going to appeal to five watch lovers. Then in came the price and it took me a while to adjust. Ultimately, no watch without any discernible brand history and reputation can make a good value watch with an SW200 at 1500. Sure, it would have cost margin, but this should have been at least an upgraded and/or certified movement then or perhaps better still a higher grade. That said, I'll completely admit that generally for me it applies that if I really really like a watch as long as the movement is good, suitable, and reputable, I'm quite flexible on it. Yet, 1500 for a first microbrand release is also just across the board an ambitious move. In other words, it would be a flip if it didn't at least impress in some ways. Here I'm happy to agree with you that under your lenses, this looks very well made and finished and there are appreciable details. It's still unlikely to be an outright value proposition, but there is thus little to hold back on if the design and construed back story speak to you. And, for what it's worth, arguably the way this watch designs comes across I still find preferable over de Black Bay, but then it didn't make me think of the BB once, probably because I just really am not that interested in Tudor or the BB. So, if it's capable of luring a few pointers away from the BB on the simple basis of offering a different feel in a well-made package for a lower price, I think the community is winning. I am interested in what the brand might do next. I can imagine field- and dress-like watches with these kinds of touches that might end up really attractive.

      Hi Benjamin, I just wanted to point out that the thickness is 12.8mm. I actually own this model and it’s such a beautiful watch. The details and the packaging put some big brands to shame. As for the movement, the Oris sixty five diver uses the exact same movement and costs more with less details and quality. 👍🏽

    • @benjaminvis
      @benjaminvis 11 месяцев назад

      @@corecasrcworld7100 ultimately, I'd say that a starting microbrand aspires perhaps to equal and better brands like Oris, but is competing with other microbrands. I'm not sure what a sixty five goes for, since divers are usually out of my purview. I do own one Oris with a modified SW200 movement, and I've got to say that the movement in the Oris feels more premium when handled than SW200s I have in micros. I bought my dressy Oris new from an AD for significantly less money (a few hundred) than this Escudo, and it's not the only Oris that can regularly be had for less. That doesn't mean you may not be right about the comparison with the sixty five, I'm just giving the anecdote for context. As for the thickness, I think this was measured in this review, wasn't it? There are often slight discrepancies with measured dimensions and claimed ones. If you also measured, then I find .8mm difference between two watches oddly large. For me, I really start noticing the thickness of a from about 12mm, though it matters how a watch sits on the wrist. The flatter the watch at the back and then more of a straight vertical rise in the side, I find thickness becomes more noticeable, which even can make a 10mm watch come across somewhat thick.
