She is great and natural artist. Love her music. For sure she was very nervous in this performance, but still she was so much into the song and performance and her voice and singing was fantastic. And I agree that these movements and expressions are a way of natural expressing her emotions. This particular song she wrote when was 11. She has many great songs but for next would recommend "Lucky" live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral), for me it is great as a whole concert there. BTW: she started writing Lucky when she was 9 :). The hand motions are not planned or practiced, they are natural expressions that come with the song. When she first was discovered after her first recorded performance someone suggested she stop moving her hand because they were distracting to the listener. She said she didnt even realize she was doing it. She tried to stop but felt it negatively impacted her performance. She’s is transported by the music and the lyric, both of which she wrote. Many great singers/musicians move similarly. In opera it is said of all the great singers that not only are they spectacular singers they are also great actors. Being completely absorbed so that you are no longer aware of the audience means you are in the grove . You see it in classical music all the time whether pianist, violinist, etc. all demonstrate this characteristic in one form or another. In Aurora’s case it is also because she can’t help herself. As you can see from that quote she did not enjoy performing back here in the first 2 years of her career, she did not plan to be a singer, just wanted to write and compose music. But she learned to enjoy it later.
Her real name is actually Aurora Aksnes, and she just turned 26 recently in June 2022 (she was 19.5 in this performance), and she already has 3 full albums and 2 EPs out, and yes many of her fans think she is some kind of fairy or Mother Nature, you picked up on that immediately 🙂 She is very much in the fight against climate change with her music, and she joined COP26 with a performance and a panel discussion.

First time I heard Aurora's voice was at the start of "Into The Unknown" from the movie Frozen 2. That's her background vocals. I've been hooked ever since. Story telling. Her eyes draw you into the story.

AURORA (Aurora Aksnes) was born on June 15, 1996 in Stavanger, Norway. She is a singer, songwriter and producer.
AURORA's songs always have a strong message. Often the messages are not very clear either. They can be interpreted so that many people can relate them to themselves. Her movements when singing are extraordinary. This isn't a dance. This is her special way of expression. You can also say that she sings with her whole body. Her excellent music, her brilliant voice and her movements. AURORA's live performances are a total work of art. You said that she looks very relaxed when she sings. After watching this video and her video AURORA - MURDER SONG (5,4,3,2,1) - The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert I think she is so relaxed because she doesn't seem to notice the audience is there. To me it looks like it's just her and the song. Like once she starts singing, she is the music. She is living out the song in her own little world that we get to watch from a safe distance.

Nirvana's lead singer had pretty poor diction, to the point where sometimes no one knew what he was saying, yet they sold 50,000,000 record albums worldwide. But that was grunge music, where it's kind of cool to slur your words. So I would say it depends on the type of music. If you are doing musical theater though, you need good diction.
Aurora's 2019 HAIK concert and the documentary before the concert will show you how truly special she is. She's an international treasure.

James Blunt is so underrated. He also came out in the Nobel Peace Prize Concert(year?).
The hand motions are not planned or practiced, they are natural expressions that come with the song. When she first was discovered after her first recorded performance someone suggested she stop moving her hand because they were distracting to the listener. She said she didnt even realize she was doing it. She tried to stop but felt it negatively impacted her performance. You should check out Murder song 5,4,3,2,1 from the same concert next and the Haik documentary and concert. She is a unique person and completely authentic.

She's amazing. You must listen to another norwegian singer, Einar from the band Leprous. I would recommend either Below or Castaway Angels. His voice is otherworldly. He can flip up in falsetto with such ease. Love his voice.

I believe aurora moves as she does ,and she does so whenever she sings , because she is completely ‘ in character,as is said of actors. She’s is transported by the music and the lyric, both of which she wrote. Many great singers/musicians move similarly. In opera it is said of all the great singers that not only are they spectacular singers they are also great actors. Being completely absorbed so that you are no longer aware of the audience means you are in the grove . You see it in classical music all the time whether pianist, violinist, etc. all demonstrate this characteristic in one form or another. In Aurora’s case it is also because she can’t help herself. And of course she shouldn’t. …And she’s a wood nymph.
