This is what Billie Eilish told Vanity Fair: “When I was 12, I saw Aurora’s ‘Runaway’ music video.Something inside me clicked, like, that is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not.”

Aurora's songs have that pure, raw feeling that's also presented in metal, I guess that's why so many of us feel attracted to her music.
+ Aurora is a norwegian metalhead herself, so that kinda makes sense :)

Boudy, you picked the right sequence. Aurora is one of the most captivating artists on the planet. Like AJ, she is from Norway. No idea what's in the water up there, but apparently it produces musical genius. In addition to "Murder" I highly recommend her three performances Live at the Current -- simply outstanding. But then again, like AJ, her every performance is outstanding!

Aurora is wood Nymph from the forest’s of Norway. As a child she played in the forest around her home. Her parents installed a bell to call her home, and taught her to navigate by the stars , as she would get lost. During this timeframe she was writing music which her parents did not know about, and did not find out until she was a teenager. She had no desire to be a singer, and had to be convinced by her mother that the world needed to hear her music. She is self taught and never learned to read music. Plays the piano and writes her own songs. Simply the most unique person in the world. Musician, poet, philosopher. Completely transparent to a fault. Singed to a record label, but within a year told them that if she could not do it as she wanted, there was no point in doing, and basically walked away. Returned, when she could do it her way. Her and Angelina are the only ones I am aware of who are signed to record labels who are basically independent, both are Norwegian. Aurora is ten years older than Angelina. Yes there must be something in the water.

Aurora is awesome and I believe she wrote this beautiful song at age 11 or 12. As you have just learned, Aurora is much more than just a great vocalist. Now you have another Norwegian musical artist to explore and there are many, many more. Sissel, is another female vocalist who would be next on my list.

  • @Einyen

Aurora Aksnes is her full name and she is a Norwegian singer, songwriter, producer. She was 19 in this video even though she looks much younger, and she turned 27 recently in June 2023. She has released 3 albums and 2 EPs and she writes all her own music and lyrics. She is The Voice in the Disney movie Frozen II calling to Elsa.
As you said she can completely immerse herself in the music, specially here in the early years 2014-2016. Here at the Nobel concert she used it to "escape" from the scary situation with 8000 people in the audience and potentially millions watching on TV and youtube live stream. She said afterwards in the interview that she was very nervous, and she also said between songs in a very short speech: "I'm truly honored to be here and a bit frightened". She performed 2 more songs here, both are worth watching: Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1) and the Oasis cover "Half The World Away".
Runaway was released in Feb 2015, and it was March/April 2021 it went viral in a TikTok meme as a 6 year old song, and it reached top 20 world wide on Spotify with up to 2.7M streams per day.
5 days after the music video for Runaway was released, Katy Perry tweeted "Finally. New music that makes my heart a flutter. Check this 17 yr old angel" and with a link to the music video and to Aurora's twitter. Later she showed up twice at Aurora's concert in L.A. in June 2015 and again in 2016.
Billie Eilish has said several times, that she was very inspired to make music by the Runaway music video, that she watched when she was 13.

I mean she is not only singer but songwriter, producer, play piano etc. But even in her interviews (or documentaries) you can see that she has artistic soul. She is also natural artist without any music education. She has a lot of great original songs and some covers too. And because of her overall artism and beautiful music and emotions I feel with her music she is my favorite artist.

Great first reaction to Aurora. Aurora Aksnes, 27 from Bergen Norway. Started forming melodies at age 6 with words coming around age 9. Aurora wrote Runaway when she was 11. I think you captured the essence of Aurora in your reaction. She totally becomes one with her music. She is a singer/songwriter, producer, dancer and choreographer. She took ballet lessons from age 6 and progressed into interpretive dance until she was 16. Aurora never had ambitions of becoming an artist. I hope you react to more from this multi talented young woman. Thanks.

You. Are. The. Man! Thank you *SO* much for checking out Aurora. There is another performance, "It Happened Quiet (Live at the Current)" that is a prequel to "Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)", but it is fine to do those two in any order, just know that Aurora has said the two are connected. The biggest thing I always try to recommend to anyone new to Aurora is just that they don't START with Murder Song; it's much better to have context about her as an artist before that more difficult track.
I LOVE that you, like most new listeners describe her music about being transcendent, and being dreamy or transporting them to another place; into her world. The way she disengages at the end of a song is so very powerful; you can read a tremendous amount of emotion in her face when she comes back into our reality. Wish you had SuperThanks on this video, but again, thank you for checking her out.

    👍😍😍
Thank you so much for reacting to my favourite artist🤗
And it’s not often I see someone describe her that great first time they see her perform😍
She was very nervous before this concert, it was her first time performing for such a big audience💕
She wrote Runaway when she was 11 years old, and at that age she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song, but as she grew older she knew that home meant home to her parents💕
Aurora (Aurora Aksnes) is a Norwegian singer/songwriter/dancer and music producer.
She plays several instruments like piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of).
She’s born on the 15 of June 1996, she’s from a small place in Os outside of Bergen, and is currently living in her apartment in Bergen 😍
When she was 6 years old she found an electric piano in the attic after her older sister.
Because the power button was broken she had to play with only one hand, and she did that for years.
She began writing music without lyrics at the age of 6, and with English lyrics at the age of 9. A couple of her songs that she wrote at the age of 9 is some of her most popular songs.
They are “Lucky” and “I went too far”
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 14 years old.
She’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano.🤩😍
Through the eyes of a child
    Live at Nidarosdomen 🙏😍

Aurora is one of my favorite artists, she is right up there with Angelina, Dimash and Diana. Auroras physical emoting come from the fact that when she sings a song she lives it in her head, thats why she looked confused at the end. She is the most authentic person i have ever encountered and is quirky and adorable. I have noticed that the more intimate a performance the better she is. Wow, what a pleasant surprise seeing Aurora on your channel! I have to say, that's one of the best first reactions I've ever seen too. You nailed it perfectly, that her expressive nature is involuntary. She is desperate to get her message out, and she'll use every part of her being to do that. And yes, she does seem to go somewhere else, and almost forgets where she is by the time the song concludes. Or at least back then she did.
She has said that she didn't like performing her first couple years as an artist, and by her own admission she was very nervous at this concert. I think back during that time of her career she would often lose herself in the performance at least partially as a way to deal with her anxiety. As long as she was performing, she could forget about everything else, at least until the song was over, and then that fear and anxiety creeped back in. These days, she's still extremely expressive, but in a more connected way. She is very engaged with the audience now, and it's obvious that she has grown to absolutely love performing.
Good call going with Runaway first. It's a great first impression, to see what she's all about as a singer and performer. If you thought she was expressive here, just wait until you see the Murder Song performance. It's extremely intense, and just a phenomenal performance. I really look forward to your reaction to that one.

Aurora said herself that this song was a perfect gateway to her world. Her artistic universe is vast and very varied, it is very well worth the time to explore. Her studio work and her MV are great, but as you saw here, she's spectacular live, in her natural and genuine way. "Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1" in the same venue could be the perfect next, as its genre and its instrumentation are different from "Runaway".

You hit the nail on the head. When she performs, the physical world ceases to exist and she is playing out the story of her song. At the end she seemed bewildered that were was even an audience present. Im not typically a believer in reincarnation, however the emotional depth of her music leads me to believe she has lived many lives before, otherwise she has had far too much turmoil for her age.
On a separate note, what you say about not judging music bu where you first heard it from is very accurate. I first learned of my favorite band, Lord Huron, from a zales diamond commercial. The song is titled "Ends of the Earth" and it is wonderful, and not even their best song.

Man, if you liked this performance I can GARANTEE you that you will love anything else she done, honestly. I recommand of course the perfromance at Nidarosdomen, the whole concert is pure artistry. I also recommand you to listen to her unreleased musics that are yet available on youtube. Please, do not make what it could be a mistake: if you really enjoyed, keep reacting to her :)

i love that at some parts she's a bit like a conductor particularly at like 5:42-5:46 for example. She really feels the music, on many levels, and all of the music, not just her vocal instrument.

As a little girl she spent a lot of time in the forest with the animals day and night and has always been special. She was terrified of performing at first but wanted to share her music and thoughts. You can see that at the end of this video.😊

Aurora is Norways mother earth and a nature child. She's an introvert person who loves her parents and siblings. She has 2 sisters. And Aurora Aksnes is the youngest. She stays mostly at home creating music or seek peace in the forest. But at stage she's hilarious like a comedian. Telling weird stories and makes the fans laugh. And she jokes about her self too. But like Angelina, she writes good lyrics. Her original songs and covers are also iconic. And she cares about the inviroment. And she always perform on stage with her heart and soul. She's a prodigy too. Started to play piano at very early age and was making music 🎶 and when she was 10 or so the lyrics came to her. She makes her own clothes, so yeah Aurora Aksnes is a very special performer and mucisian. I highly recommend Aurora singing "THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD" at Nidarosdomen cathedral in Trondheim in Norway 🇳🇴 There's a concert with many songs. Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴

Between Angelina and Aurora, you are going to be busy for awhile, my friend. But what wonderful work. I envy you getting to hear so much from them for the first time... Through the eyes of a child at Nidarosdomen HAS to be on your list. It's one of Aurora's originals. You really can't go wrong with any of them. She's also done some covers that are must see- in particular, David Bowie's Life on Mars and The Beatles' Across the Universe. Singer and instrumentalist Silja Sol was part of her band for awhile. Wait 'till you hear her backing vocals mix with Aurora's...

This was a great reaction, you captured what she does perfectly! And yes please keep doing more with "Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)", and also two more live performances if you want to see how powerful of a singer she is "Lucky" and "Through The Eyes Of A Child" both live from Nidarosdomen. If what to do a Official Video "The Seed" is a must.

From 5 minutes and 30 seconds on you have the expression of a man that just got a really great hug... I understand, she's other worldly. If you like Life On Mars by David Bowie... check her cover, it's daring AF to cover Bowie at all, but she nails it (in her own way).
