I have a well maintained FC RX7 fully built motor 1k miles from racing beat and Maztech never selling it will be maxing the 13b out at 550hp. Worth way more than a honda.
Having literally sold my fc like last week, this video hits close to home, many of the things you said were spot on, but when you fix them, the car becomes so much better and more reliable lol. Honestly, I love this car, it gives young people like us the opportunity to drive a fuel injected rotary for a reasonable price, it's a labor of love to keep these cars going, you drive them because you love them, and it's something so special, yeah, you can buy an older FB or a newer FD, but you don't see that many FC's around (kinda like the ae86). My car was a rebuilt hardtop 88 gxl with a full on straight piped exhaust, you could hear it coming from blocks away (I fuckin loved how unapologetically it was lol). And honestly, the engine is what makes the car, you'll never forget the sound of a screaming rotary bro (especially if you straight pipe your car like me haha), most people hated my car for how loud it was but for those few that said ''bro your car is so sick'', it made all the hardship worth it. Definitely Gona miss it, but it was time to let go and let someone younger enjoy it.
I have a NA S4 FC and it is loads of fun. Turbo 2 is great and all, but its nice to be able to rely on my car lasting longer, being the only one I have. Turbo cars are fun, but you have to keep in mind that they'll come with turbo problems, they're also getting pretty expensive so it'll definitely be a while before I explore the turbo world. For now, I'm an NA soulja all the way!
I bought a Turbo II RX-7 and drove it to work every day for years. The turbo itself is very, very reliable and durable. You have to look after all the plumbing because these cars are really old and require incessant maintenance, but there's nothing inherently unreliable about a turbocharger. They typically last the life of the car. If you take care of it, there's nothing inherently unreliable about a turbo engine. All of these cars are unreliable maintenance nightmares because of their AGE and not because of the turbo, or even because of the mileage. Turbochargers are a fully-developed mature technology, they are as durable and reliable as any other part of a car. But, not an OLD car.
When u know ur ride, this ride is reliable. I have mine for over 15 years, never gave up on me. This bad boy does need alot of attention. It is ur full attention to keep this bad boy. Mine is over 200k miles and it is still strong
hi, im thinking about getting one myself so I guess asking someone that has 200k miles on it would definitely be the logical thing to do, what exactly do you do for maintenance and how often?
I remember when you could buy these for around $2k used in great shape because most ppl slept on them when new and years later most didn’t even know anything about them. I owned two in high school. My loaded (red)87 gxl had the useless backseat option lol. My silver 86 was a base model with 4 lug but still pulled hard and would chirp 3rd gear. The interiors were so brittle, fragile, and cheap. They have such a rugged feel to them driving; it’s a totally different breed. Although ppl do nowadays - they really aren’t drift cars; they handle corners way too well for that.
regarding the convertibles: the previous owner of my 89 FC disabled the motors, making it manual. It is tons easier (and no maintenance) as a manual top (and it's reversable). yeah, the hardtops are more popular but the ones I saw were beat to hell... besides, I like convertibles. 😁
Literally Kenny McKee is the only example you could find of a rotary guy moving to hondas xD and he did that while i was still in highschool like 8 years ago and thats only because the company he co owns was already deep into drag racing hondas. Crazy crazy guide im watching rn.
There’s a trick to unlocking the door if you get locked out. I had an ‘87 in high school 30 years ago and used it many times. Get a folder or something similar and push it down between the glass and moulding of the door. That should do it.
1. They make upgraded metal door handles to replace the old ones it's pretty easy and you could always get in through the hatch lol. 2. Window problems are from the switch not having a relay. MPV vans have the same switches so problem fixed. 3. Looked at a stock s4 today that had 287,900 miles without a rebuild which was crazy. 4. Actuators and ports can be removed with emission delete. Other problems aren't really as common and is easy to fix. N/A dope especially with itbs 🤝. I have 3 at the moment and they're great cars!
Hey If you actually got it I have to ask, have you had any trouble with it because there's an 86 near me with 58k miles non turbo and I'm wondering if it's worth it for 8k. It'd be a second vehicle and wouldn't be my only transportation
Where to start... A) fuel rails. S4 manifolds don't use s5 rails. Remove s4 dampaner and replace with an fittings and external regulator. B) the gtus is more rare than the 10ae, infini or vert. I own them all, trust me. C) ew verts
Jumped on the opportunity to buy my dream FD with barely enough research. Im pretty 50/50 between swapping or rebuilding when that faithful day comes, but its streetported and all that good stuff so I might try to stretch it for as long as I can
Life on the edge of repairs? I mean, I already owned several Subarus. And currently I got a WRX hatchback and what's basically another Mazda car, which is a Ford Probe GT.
im not sure about the sonic blue color being correct i feel like ive seen base modele verts for sale on fb with that paint but im not completely sure most fb pictures suck
As a daily driver of RX seven for over 20 years, I can tell you that they are extremely reliable if you build and maintain them correctly. RX seven owners are poor. The cars used to be 1000 bucks, maybe two. They’re super easy to work on. The reason why it’s hard to maintain them is because people are so hard on them. If you’re gonna drive like what you are showing at the start, you have to be ready to do the maintenance. 🧑🔧 I know you’re a fan, but I feel like your intro was misleading ! ❤
3:35 from your research- I can tell that you did not do the homework. 😅 you’re wrong, all over the place! Ha ha ha oh my gosh it’s so sad and I see a lot of people who get on Instagram and on the social medias and they have RX sevens and they think that they’re superstars because of it. Aye aye aye 👎
For others out there, I want to recommend the 12a rotaries. They are a little bit more forgiving and easier to work on than the 13b's. Just keep in mind 12a engine components are less common.
The 12A cars were also pretty anemic by today's standards. With only about 100 HP, even a small light car will be effortlessly out-accelerated by a base-model Toyota RAV4 :) They were neat little cars but very underpowered by today's standards, even with a turbo.
I'm out of the loop on the car world but just started tuning into what has happened to the used car market, was thinking about getting something fun for weekend drives. I can't imagine paying what people are asking for these vs just getting an RX8. Just l m a o. The FC only looks good from the back. Seriously for the money I'll stick to motorcycles, way way more fun.
L take my dude. The rx-8 looks (and feels) like a toy compared to a well maintained FC. About motorcycles...can't argue taste, but you've clearly never driven or been in a rotary car.
I found a 10th anniversary rx7 for sale and the car has paint match mud guards I tried checking if they were a factory option but can’t seem to find anything? Would u know anything abt that
Where do you even find these for sale anymore? I really want an FC2 with the six port engine and for the love of all I hold dear I can’t find one for sale anywhere.
The simple answer is Rotaries are finicky. If you don't do the needed reading, and you arent going to be your own mechanic, don't bother. If your a quick learner with the want and a way to work on it, they will treat you right.
It's not the rotary engine that's finicky, it's very good. It's that these second-gen RX-7s had problems with poor build quality in the electrical system, the wiring harnesses were total crap and the electrical connectors were junk. Grounding problems (causing bad signals from the sensors) were a problem even back when these cars were brand new. The 13B engine block itself, when in good condition, is every bit as reliable as any other small sports car engine from the 1980s. It's the overall build quality of these cars that was pretty bad, especially the electrical system--not a problem with the engine block. There's absolutely nothing finicky about the rotary engine itself.

Ironic that you say that, someone is offering to trade my Honda for his fc

It's no longer 'affordable' hahaha

I love convertibles when they are down and enjoy every second of it but when it’s up it doesn’t look that good. :/
That’s a good idea making the top manual! I hate electric tops

It is a unique bad ass ride
I’m about to get a 88 fc and it’s a manual and keep in great condition and is very clean so with 40k miles so I think it will last me a while
Good luck man! Its gonna be an awesome car!

get one! do the research, premix the fuel and oil, they require high rpms so drive it hard once a day, dont turn it on and off frequently
Mine is 90,000 miles as of this year. Although it's only driven in Sweden in summertime and frequent oil change.
I found one for 4k a 1988 gxl model so an s4. It hasnt been started in 10 years. Idk what to do but i likethe rx7
I say do it!
@@hakosan86 will it start?
@Hako update. The car starts but has dirty 10 year old fuel

Ayeee I got one in Sonic Blue 6 years ago
I will NEVER go to pistons after my FC! no rotor no motor!
Life on the edge of repairs?

3:13 this problem i think is in every used car 10 years old or older
If a rotary isn’t leaking oil something is wrong

I never stop liking mazda fcs it's a nice 80's cars
I've been thinking to engine swap to an Ford ecoboost.. wouldn't that last forever
Idl about that lol

Yeah I was going off this color chart but literally cant find one pic of the color erix7.home.xs4all.nl/rx7col.html
After this video I've decided to change my mind and stick with my Miata 😅
It’s all fun and games until something leaks!
But the FC turbo 2 is the best Japanese sports car to track street or drift IMO
I’d own one but I’m just not sire if it worth it haha
