    • Blackbirds Nesting - M...
When a bird is "fledged," it means that it has grown its feathers to the point where it is capable of flight and is no longer dependent on its parents for care. So officially these young blackbird chicks, just three weeks old, are still nestlings, even though not bunched together in the next any longer.
The blackbird fledglings still require the care of their parents. The male and female blackbird come back time and time again with worms and insects to feed the seemingly constantly hungry little birds! in general, young blackbirds may continue to be fed by their parents for about two to four weeks after leaving the nest. During this time, the parents gradually reduce the frequency of feeding as the young birds learn to forage and feed themselves. By the end of this period, the young blackbirds are usually capable of finding their own food independently.
