I agree with you. I believe everyone should embrace their beauty inside and out (and I know that it will be hard). On TikTok, there always a trend that show what beauty should be and t’s really sad.
You're naturally beautiful without makeup. You have the right mindset and you're smart. That's already a 10/10. You could be a good role model for a lot of young girls in this age of so much confusion and loss of sense of self. You will learn a lot if you read Aquinas. You won't be able to go through his massive body of work, but I'll suggest the First Part of the Second Part (Prima Secundæ Partis) of his Summa Theologica. This is part deals with human acts, passions (emotions), and habits. Que tenga un buen día.
as an indian woman,it feels like a big sis talking to me! I will be going to us this fall for college,I hope finally all these expectations won't be burdened on me there
Funny how your channel got in front of my 43 year old ass Asian male eyes, but here we are ! First thing first : you're a stunning looking young girl ! I've been an animation artist for the past 15 years (with 6 years on the side as photographer), and sculpting myself an eye to be able to discern what beauty is, if I want to be able to create beautiful art and character designs or photographs, is part of my job. So I'm usually fairly picky with the term perfect, as I don't think it truly exist. I have no problem calling you just that : Perfect. You hair look fantastic ; your brows are elegant ; your eyes are big, beautifully shaped and most importantly, bright and curious ; your nose is chiseled ; your jawline looks refined and feminine ; and your lips look luscious ! You're absolutely right to stand your ground and not listen to what any of your aunties or besties tell you about "why don't you use that product, it will make your hair/skin/lips/better ?" You ABSOLUTELY don't need any of these. You're perfect just the way you are (and again, trust me, I'm an artist ^^, so I have more authority on the topic of beauty than most people. After all, when you're in pain, do you ask the opinion of the doctor or of the retail shop clerk, pastor, butcher and baker ? Well, artists are basically the doctors of beauty ^^). And that's only talking about your outside beauty ! What you're saying is also filled with beauty, as you sound like someone who's wise beyond her years, asking lot of extremely relevant questions to today's society's values, and answering them by telling lot of hard truths that more people should need to hear. To answer your question on why are people doing all these (products, plastic surgeries, etc), there is a very simple answer (well, 3, actually, who work hand in hand) : Pretty privilege, Cultural colonialism (or commonly known as the infamous white supremacism) and Mass consumerism. I grew up in Belgium for 27 years, then went to live in Taiwan for almost 15 years, now. As an Asian boy, and despites being rather easy on the eyes myself, I was never in the front row of the dateable guys at school in Belgium. Now that I'm back in Taiwan, ads of whitening creams "so you can be prettier" are EVERYWHERE ! And every girl are loathing the sun because it makes them tan and get oh so ugly, like a south east asian girl (yes, racism also exist in friendly Taiwan). In Asia, Africa, and South America, there is a common belief that pale skin is more beautiful (yes, even great pop culture icons like Michael Jackson and Beyonce have dived deep into it). It simply taps into the deeply ingrained belief (trauma) all over the world by all the formerly colonized ethnies that white people are the most successful race of people on earth, the ones on top of the world, so if we get to look even just a bit more like them, we can also bask on their success. White colonialism has ruined pretty much all the non-white countries of the planet, sending entire millenium old and wealthy empires like China back to the stone age, or at least to the 3rd world, so all countries having been beaten so deeply to the bone by their white invaders, now have a mix of a grudge and stockholm syndrom of "they beat us so bad, they must be so much better, so if we can't beat them, let's join them" mentality. That's some extremely sad shit, and I really wish more people could wake up from that mentality. Everything nowadays in the fashion and pop culture industry is made to cater to whiter audience. When was the last time you saw sahris being in full trend all around the world instead of European styles skirts ? When was the last time we saw Chinese silk garments being all the rage instead of suits ? When was the last time you saw anything else than T-shirts and jeans plastered all over the place in your local H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Gap, and others... ? Yeah, never. As for representation and skin colors, Hollywood has been almighty for its entire existence in the filmmaking industry, and for the longest time the American pop music industry has always been the shining star of all star systems in the world. Sure, there were certainly some good competitors out there, like Bollywood, or mando pop, J-pop, HK cinema, or now K-Pop for a few decades, most of them have always been completely overshadowed by the sheer might and budget of the combined American and UK star system (be it Hollywood or the music industry). And these have always steamrolled any representation of any non-white person in their midst. Making the biggest stars on the planet all whites, and leaving not much space for anyone else, which in turns, made even the greatest stars of color (again, Michael Jackson, and Beyonce) wanting to become whiter, strengthening the belief that to be succesful (therefore beautiful), you need to be white. It's truly the continuation of white colonialism, but now through the prism of soft power and pop culture. And to make things worse, it's also the age of wild capitalism, which push people to ever consume more, more, more, churning out useless products one after the other, and making you pay for all of them by promising you "it will make you look better". Even perfectly fine girls get steamrolled into the system, making them believe that "if you don't buy this, you're missing out", creating anxiety and self-consciousness out of thin air, making all these girls who were perfectly beautiful to begin with, gradually monsterize themselves with silicon boobs, grinded jawlines and cheekbones, re-sculpted (and sometimes falling) nose, bottoxed lips and cheeks, etc, etc... until they finally look in a mirror and realize, much later on, after multiples procedures that ruined them, both aesthetically and financially, that they no longer look anything human. This system is truly inhumane, and preys on younger more impressionable girls who want to be beautiful, and even if they are already, it lies to them by telling them "you could be so much more if you tried our product/surgery", on a massive scale all around the world, and that's how we end up with entire generations of cyborgs instead of girls. I mean, I can understand that a girl who has some legitimate flaws on her face and is generally considered ugly would want to do everything at her disposal to be able to feel pretty. But already pretty girls who feel incomplete if they don't have their foundation, blushing, mascara and eyelines and shaders, and who spent not only thousands of dollars on products that in the long run will their skins due to harmful chemicals, BUT ALSO waste at least an hour of their day to "GRWM"... put all these together, and they waste 1/24th of their lives on putting on and off make up. If they live 100 years, that's approximatively 4 years of lifetime wasted in the bin of time. And let's not talk about the time that they partners or friends waste waiting for them. All in all, the more I talk about it, the more it sounds like a lose-lose scenario. Totally on board however with what you said about pretty girls wanting to put on some make up just for osme special occasion. That should be THE way to put make up on. For special occasions, like birthdays or weddings. Not something that girls NEED to do first thing int he morning every single day, just to be accepted by society at large ! So good on you for not falling into this trap. And please PREACH ! I really hope your channel finds a well deserved success and popularity because this generation needs more role models like you.
Firstly thankyou for this huge comment. It means a lot that you actually watched the whole video and was able to give me feedback. Also you are right about the colonization thing. Its interesting to compare how everyone in asia wears jeans and a top but when you go to the west you don’t see them wearing asian clothes such as saris and Chinese garments. Your comment actually provided me a lot of insight, and it inspires me to make more videos about similar topics. So in conclusion, thankyou!

Why do you wear makeup on certain special occasions, why not skip it altogether, but you said you liked doing it and that's enough of a reason. The point I am trying to make is that did you ever wear makeup when you didn't intrinsically like it but you did it to conform with the society around you like at weddings, birthday parties, etc.? It's statistically not possible that every time a party was around the corner, you thought like, 'yes, I feel like putting on some makeup just for the fun of it.' Social events do activate this motivation (who knows it never happens with you, but generally it is the case). You cannot deny that it's hard to live around people who think you are an outcast (evolutionary reasons) and these people feel disrespected when your way of life undermines their own. Now the question is what is the extent to which one must conform given that we all must and not for bad reasons. But your point is that the reasons are bad and we must suppress this desire to conform. Here it becomes a little complicated, your relative who has been using this cream since her college days, try to imagine the psychological state of a college girl insecure about her looks, just trying to be happy, and it doesn't matter what brings it about, and I think the same is the case with most of the people who look for solutions to lessen the suffering which is all-pervading. It's really hard to look at things from their view and say that it does not make sense because it does make sense; that is why they did it in the first place. You could say that the problem of conformity could be solved if nobody wore makeup, but then why did they start wearing it in the first place? I don't know, and I'd like to know. Opinions vary and we share them. Society tells you what makes it happy and through this video you are telling it back what makes you happy. Sadly you both disagree and we still don't know who is right. I suppose freedom to do whatever feels right to you is most important. These were my thoughts, and I appreciate yours. You can point out if I got anything wrong or that you disagree.
Well I what I was trying to say in the video is that its ok to wear makeup or change your looks when it is out of free will. What I don’t understand is why it is expected from people. I understand your point about people do it to fit in and not be an outcast. Everyone does certain things consciously or unconsciously to fit in as a means to survival. That’s why the video is not criticizing the usage of beauty products, its just more so questioning why we have become so obsessed with our looks. Why we as a society have chosen to put such great value on looks in comparison to other aspects of self. Because in the end of the day we humans choose and add value to things. Also thanks for the comment. This actually made me think more, and I agree with some of the things you say.
