For two weeks in April 2021, trainset 2 returned to the Boston / Rhode Island area for a bout of representative route testing between Providence and Westerly. Here is a compilation of testing action, in no particular chronological or locational order. Enjoy, and be sure to keep an eye out for tilting action =)
Non-Avelia action: • Amtrak Northeast Corri...
The train went back to Philadelphia on Friday, 4/16.
Ok the last run taken from across the lake was beautiful!
Very nice!, but that horn!, AAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK! A kids bicycle horn sounds way better!
Indeed.
I think its wonderful that when the engineer spots a photographer, he toots the horn to them! Good community relations!!!!
And it blinks even @ 08:42!
Ya
I’m surprised they can see them too going fast
I agree with you on that one!
I cannot wait to ride this in the next couple years. FINALLY we have something slightly approaching the great fast trains of the world. At least they are true high speed trains.
LOL They are as fast than the normal InterCity Trains in Germany which we have here since 1985
These across are also only in the northeast corridor while most other countries have national highspeed trains
Acela I mean
@@mstrmren You're whacking yourself off WAAAAY too much, lol.
@@Sempuukyaku It's sad but he's just stating facts, onwards and upwards always.
I love how often they salute you with the horn when they pass 😂 gotta love a friendly driver.
I love how at minute 5:01 the train makes this wooshing clicking sound. This machines are so amazing! I can’t wait for my next Acela trip. It’s just such a jaw dropping experience. It feels like if I were standing on the sideline my soul would just get spooked and jump out of my body while I stand there with my jaw opened wide!
8:43 I love this, the train going by and then the camera flip at the end.
Yeah hes good at catching it at the end with the flip
I am so looking forward to riding one of these. I rode the TGV Eurostar from London to Paris 21 years ago on my honeymoon. It was fantastic. It bewilders me that only now are we actually going to get REAL high-speed trains, at least on the NE corridor if not anywhere else anytime soon.
Nice that you are getting HST units. But you guys are going to need some HST track to use these trains as intended.
There will be one, between LA and Vegas, in the next 5 years or so. If the stupid NIMBYs in Texas will ever acquiesce, Texas will have a Shinkansen, between Dallas and Houston.
@frglee Amtrak has been upgrading the rails to handle the new Avelia trainsets for 160mph+ service. The new rails are only in the NE Corridor. However, Amtrak does own a set of tracks between Chicago and Detroit that they have the diesel 'Wolverine' service running at 110mph. I wouldn't be suprised if Amtrak extended the Acela service to Detroit and Chicago on those rails.
I have (we, wife and I) been to Germany 4 times, and it is so much fun to ride the ICE trains. Their high speed trains and those of France , TGV are really sharp looking, fast and quiet, too.
That's why the Alvelia is made by Alstom .
Like a good neighbor, Alstom is there.
D W. 675 I've Seen On RUclips In Europe Those Train's Travel At Very Meaning High Speed 200 miles per Hour And Faster 300/ 400. And In Japan Even Faster
European trains can run up to 289mph. Definitely way better than here by a long shot. And Maglev trains in China and Japan are pushing close to 400mph. Our country is behind everyone. It's pathetic
Heard more of the new one with that euopean horn but the old one is just EPIC!
Am I the only one who finds it amazing that that the Avelia liberty HAS A FRICKING TWO TONE HORN?!?
Maybe
It's electronic and it's a bitch to replace XD
It sounded like an european horn
Plus, this horn is used on european countries like france, uk, and other countries
It's a European sound.
That Tilt action 🎬👌🏽
That was cool .
Welcome in the XXth century Murica !
Greetings from France !
Lol, thanks for these beautiful trains!
Just an FYI, we have had electrified high speed service on the NEC since the days of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which built the NEC. This new unit is undergoing testing. To me tho, it won’t replace the Acela which looked and matched in design much better. The people at Alstrom are morons. These designs are not at all seamless nor matching in streamlining. The locomotive has one of the ugliest designs for high speed rail service. The European designs are much more streamlined and faster… I hope AMTRAK orders a redesign, this is an embarrassment of design…

Many thanks for this great acela video! i hope that the high-speed lines in the United States will be expanded in such a way that you can comfortably drive from New York City via Allentown, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Indianapolis to Chicago without traffic jams directly into the city center
Thank you French engineers.
The horn sounds like ass
Yes, fine designs, these trains.
Yup thanks to the French company Alstom making these avelia liberty
I worked on this project! Yey!
Change the horn please
@@neddierex Lol every acela video someone says this. But yes please do.
Wow that's incredible!
Thank you!
Also the horn does kind of sound like a European emergency vehicle… but I think it's ok haha.

3:17 thats the speed we want.
Great video, and I loved the various clips of the original and new Acela trainsets. I still think the original looks better, but nobody can deny 20 years has gone by and the new trainsets are going to be a significant step forward.
8:41 and 9:49 are the best ones of this entire video, hands down
8:55 that's gotta be the most impressive train following I've ever seen. How the crap did you keep it in the frame!?
Thanks. Years of experience and a relatively steady hand.
@@FanRailer And slow speeds of the train.
I always rely on you to posting Avelia test videos 👍
4:27 Unless I have been living under a rock my whole life, I've never heard trains use a horn like that. I kind of like it.
Sound like a lower pitch of the one used on French trains, here on a French Alstom Avelia (TGV) :

@@dufonrafal true im french and it is the same sound :)
The lake reflection was awesome!
Scary how unprotected the tracks are in the US.
Freedom
It's America. "Land of the free, land of god, guns and country". If there is any kind of danger here, it is eradicated by shooting the train with a 9mm
In a lot of places in the USA, there is no need for protection because the tracks are so far away from any roads, towns, or people. In the cities there usually is some form of fence or wall. But the stations, even the largest ones, have ZERO security measures what so ever. They may have a random security guard walking around but there are no baggage inspections or metal detectors or stuff like that.
@@trevordavis9390 What about animals like bears, birds, etc?
Also, this train will mainly circulate on the North-Eastern US coast, where tracks often cross villages and roads
@@TheMatrixContent just run them over
I’m glad Amtrak is doing something nice with their train exteriors and not just boring sheet metal with some streaks of blue.
it is not Amtrak which built these tgv it is Alstom a French company and it is the same for the old acela
Very good trainspotting action! I think that, besides its stunning desing, we are slowly coming to appreciate its wonderful aerodynamic sounds at high speeds...definitely reminds me of the good old class 373 Eurostars when passing at high speeds. May i ask, how are things going in terms of their production?
Αντε και στα δικά μας, μπας και μπει επιέλους σε υπηρεσία το 470...
So far three trainsets have been produced, trainsets 1 and 3 are in hornell right now getting their interiors installed and set 2 is still testing on the corridor, as of right now 2 is up in Boston
@@froztytrainfilms9148 How man more sets are due and when are they planned to start commercial use? Also whats the story with the line upgrade to allow for a "higher" speed route

It’s the very first video I’ve ever seen that the new Acela runs at full speed 👍
Nice Work Of The Train 's Moving At Different Speed's
Interesting new "take"' on the horn's Doppler shift.
Very nicely done... MORE PLEASE!
That would be cool if they got the new Acela trains but also upgraded the Older Acela trains so there could be more of them in service.
old will be sold somewhere else :)
Very Fast Amtrak’s! Great Catches!
The speedie boi don't mess around.
Hopefully the lines can update their tracks to allow faster operating speeds, then you’ll have true high speed rail!
Those are some amazing camera skills.
Great catch of this highly south-after high speed train! The future is here.
You can hear a little bit of the Eurostar woosh in the last clip.
I really hope that after the infrastructure changes, this new train will actually maintain higher speeds though out the entire DC to Boston journey, and not just Conn and R.I.😫
Dude, excellent, EXCELLENT VIDEO! Why is no one filming from atop that parking garage at 1:09???
The cat poles kind of obstruct the view from that angle. When you're given the option of an unobstructed shot from the platform, regardless of the lighting situation, that shot is preferred.
@@FanRailer Understood.
Because not everyone gives 2 shits
@@NortheastCorridorFilms Well if you didn't, you wouldn't have commented on my shit, otherwise, mind your fuckin business.
It'd be cool to have both the 3:19 clip and the last lake view clip in 1 video. Great for sharing on rail discussions.
Notice they are testing different speeds and pantograph adhesion to overhead due to oscillation. Leading vs trailing pans
Always wondered why the power cars never tilted, not so much for comfort, bur for weight distribution. They’re really heavy, and having that further in would lower rail stress and reduce rollover risk
The wheels don't care what the suspended body is doing. Tilting is only for passenger comfort, not for tracking. The slight shift in CG to the outside rail would actually be detrimental. And don't forget, the track is superelevated anyway.
9:08 - Someone wants to be a German police car. :)
That's a french Police car's sound actually.
He is correct. Its a French police car sire. Example - ruclips.net/video/3gHw2hSXpxQ/видео.html
The Avelia is a treat at speeds above 200 kmph
Been on the Acela many times between New York and DC for work.
I would be missing the older Acela. Avelia's face looks like a character from "Monsters, Inc".
One thing about this train, you're not gonna race it to the next crossing. Now that is something I'd like to see!
Those shots do not look like anything I would imagine when I think about America. They are so green and overall nice-looking!
While I do love a strong K5LA horn, I like that this one is using a European horn. I don't necessarily have a favorite horn.
Have you heard BIG BOY 4104 horn??
@@Shock-xf7lu No, because it doesnt have a horn
And never has
Super video!
France has 45 years experience for high speed train , you can sleep quietly
If you want to go see these units in person, I recommend going to the Amtrak yard in Philadelphia. Right now, there are 2 trainsets in the yard, awaiting revenue service.
There are actually a total of 3 ready-to-run trainsets (3-5) based in Philly, in addition to the test trainset (2). You may only see 2 trainsets at a time due to 1 out testing, and the other one either down in DC or in NYC for crew familiarization.
Very promising to see this. Is this train running on new dedicated tracks? Finally, to see a train run that fast in the USA if very refreshing. Still, not competitive to the better HSR systems around the world, but it's a huge step in the right direction. Great video.
Sadly these trains aren’t gonna run on their own HS lines but they will be run on upgraded lines which will cut around 1 hour on the DC to Boston trip
I hope they will keep the signature Amtrak horn that was on the former Acela
They're so much quieter compared to Acela! Wish they would have put K5LAs on them instead of the Euro horn though. The Acela sounds more beefy when it blows its horn 😁
Amazine video my friend..from Argentina
There is no fences?? Here, in Spain, all high velocity lines have fences at both sides. Since.... always (1992)
Yeah, for whatever reason fencing railroads just isn’t something we do here basically ever. The only place I believe I’ve seen a fence was between the parking lot of my elementary school and the tracks next to it
A lot of this footage was taken in more remote wooded areas so I think that explains no fences.
Tracks dating from 1834
Most of the tracks are by themselves not in cities
The only thing I don’t like about the new Acela is the horn like CANT America just stick with the awesome horns we have already?
Hi-Lo air horn on a train is rare. I thought I was in the UK.
It’s a beautiful trainset, jeez!
I wanna ride the new avelia liberty train sets already! :(
Car and plane companies say trains are obsolete... But its only starting to get good
Where am I? The NEC or Europe? The new Avelia trainsets are GORGEOUS! I ❤️'d riding the Bombardier trainsets back when Acela first introduced them, because (at that time back in 2000 anyway), they were the fastest (and most Euro-similiar) thing going. Now? These BLOW them out of the water! AH-MAHZING! 😍
I came from the: "NE Regional & Metro North" generation, SO, it was REALLY interesting to see the evolution in the NEC.
And that last shot WAS REALLY STUNNING! 👍👍👍👍
The current Acela seats are way more comfortable than the new ones.
@@FFred-us9twactually the avelia liberty will provide more services then the original Acelas
Why won't Amtrak also add the New Acela 21 to their other cross country routes, such as Empire Builder, etc?
….. nothing outside of the northeast corridor is electrified, or set up for high speed operations, or have high level platforms, or are Amtrak owned.
Wow so amazing train
Alstom trains oh yeah !
Wow I love seeing those high speed train although I've never been to America
Wow, Amazing vid!
Epic compilation!!!!
I love seeing fast American trains. We have no excuse not to be as good as our Asian and European counterparts.
mais Alstom et aussi américain. une grand pâtit a était vendu. a General Electric
Awsome video of the aclea avelia liberty i like the horn
Awesome video
Like being in Europe watching trains 30 years ago, the Chinese must be cracking a rib laughing. 😂

Looks really good but why is there that triangular gap in the shape of the cars and the locomotives?
Goddamn I’m so excited to ride on this train

This is the new TGV Alstom .
At first I thought the paint scheme was kinda mehh. But it's starting to grow on me now
The hi lo horn show is the funniest thing in the railroad!
You haven't been to UK or India yet. Thats why this twin tone is new to you....travel on an Indian train and the driver will blow his hi tone out into your ears. I have a few videos on my channel for trains at speed of 130 km/h (or 81 mph) and I do agree the Avelia fleet are way ahead. India would get the Shinkanshen E5 trains for HSR here in future.
Seen this train down in Newark Delaware the other day.
It's a step in the right direction. :-)
Well done video. Geez that last pano shot of the liberty was mouth watering. Slobber lolz fuck
It's the most expensive track testing train in the world.
Guys it is a Alston train from English Channel
The horn to me sounds like a warning alarm because if i heard that at night i would be terrified
it atleast doesn't need to wake up an entire town because it is much safer on the NEC because there are nearly no crossings that is why the horn is like this
Well isn't that what a horn's supposed to do?
Hey Fan Railer, quick question. How common/rare are Avelia Liberty's? I know Amtrak has started replacing the old Acela train sets, but how many Avelia Liberty's are there?
They’re not in service yet. I think this same set has been doing all the testing in the NEC
There’s three now, 2 in hornell rn and 1 on the corridor
looks like the existing acela is still in service, for now
It looks nice, but I really hope they poor a legit horn on that thing when it starts revenue service. That euro siren sounds like an ambulance. It's nice to hear the horn on the old Acela.
Great video 👍
Should u rather?
Old Acela version? Or new Acela version?
New acela because it is next gen of amtrak
I think it’s cool that Amtrak is developing new high speed technology, but the old one just looks so much better
Old any day. This design is awful. The people at Alstrom that designed this likely designed sports cars before… they shouldn’t be anywhere near designing a locomotive… cars don’t have the same wind resistance trains do due to weight…. They had the option of going with a Brightline design, but chose this eyesore…
@@calebg844 totally agree about previous design but Alstrom is developing the new equipment, Amtrak contracted them out. I think the Avelia looks ugly. The design does not match its train set…
@@NCXDesigns At least unlike the new Siemens venture cars set to go in service with Amtrak Midwest routes the paint lines on the power car and the coaches match up perfectly.
They should be testing it with a load of passengers. That's when the old one had shock mount failure
They have weights in the coaches to simulate passenger loads.
We used a ton of 55-gallon drums filled with water to simulate full cars and tested the tilting system at max load. The tilting system uses extremely high-pressure hydraulics, so there's a lot of failure points.
If the train passes you in under 3 seconds, it's breaking 160 mph.
Not bad. That's within regular Tokaido Shinkansen cruise speeds and only 35 slower than the top speed.
Amazing footage! What camera do you use?
…..sleek…quiet….and FAST….👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
The older Acela is gonna be missed
It gonna be put the history books.

3:18 I looks away for 2 seconds, and not kidding I thought the train went into reverse lol
Wow! Spectacular train videos
Glad to see you on many railfanning videos
especially my friend’s video too
They should use the older Acela fleet for NEC Regionals. It'll be sad to see them discontinued the horns are so aggressive on them.
The older trainsets are getting more and more expensive to maintain and operate. It does not make fiscal sense to keep them beyond their 20 year service live.
