Nice catch with some unusual power; Pennsy ALP46 and diesels. Back in the nineties i would ride very early morning NJT to Trenton from NYC to save money. There i would catch Amtrak to Phily or Wilmington. NJTransit should consider running a NY-AC express train again. This time not sponsored by a damn casino. And why not take the Southern RR of NJ route? I guess because of the cost of rebuilding the ROW.
I live right next to a 2 track NJT mainline that goes from Philly to Alantic City, but the only thing that was different on that train was that it was a double header which means 2 engines, so basically that was not rare.
John when you get a chance can you do an update on NEC infrastructure and High speed rail update. I understand that certain part are being upgraded fast then other as well as bridges are lacking.
Infrastructure. It’s easy to build fast trains. The track though is the real issue. In Europe and China, straight, flat and new tracks built less than 40 years ago carry the trains, however, on this route, the line dates back well over 150 years and is generous not very straight. On to of that, the density along the line means that it isn’t financially feasible to build a new line. To its credit, Amtrak has worked to speed up trains on various sections for years, but the overall barriers still remain
