Sometimes dad would start dancing in his heavy work boots. One thing I miss is the the way he could use the natural rattles in the house to create a natural kind of reverb. Sometimes the dishes and him would get some interesting rhythms going on before mom yelled.

You Brits had a victory at Mobile after that. Both battles were actually fought after the treaty was signed. Neither side claiming victory for that war. The diplomats began successful diplomacy for 2 centuries and counting. Our 2 countries spent the rest of the 19th century improving communications. Telegraphs, trans Atlantic cables, etc

It's so simple. A fiddle player and two people dancing. But just think of the hours of hard practice to get to make it look as easy as this. It is beautiful, entertaining, musical and an original art form of the USA.

If you think this melody has another life as “The Battle New Orleans,” you are correct. The thing I had to read a biography of Jackson to find out, was that the battle of New Orleans was fought on the 8th of January, 1814.💡

In all forms of music there is a means of carrying the rhythm. Drums, bass, tambourine, cello, are typically used. In this beautiful Appalachian hill music, the player's feet are used to convey the rhythm. The beauty and complexity are truly amazing!

The tradition is of course important. But the rythmic talent! The groove! There are a few songs I'd like to mention that has this quality: "Twistin' the night away" Sam Cooke and Chubby Checkers "Let's twist again". It's a different style but very groovy.
