Hello Klaus, Stephen Foster was not a Southerner. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania, lived in New York City and PA, as an adult. His music was popular throughout the country, back then and many of his songs are well-known, even today.
It's still about the South and it's kinda one of the Souths anthems so yeah....

The General Jackson is based in Nashville, TN, near where I grew up. I worked in Opryland during the summers of '72 and '73. The General Jackson tours up and down the Cumberland River. This brings back some good memories! 😊

Actually, that vocal was dubbed. See the wares on the water? No way the vocal was that clear in the original recording. But... no denying this is a great performance.
@@billmankin6204 Either way, the video was probably edited to remove background sound, or they used something to remove the wind sound (They have equipment for that) so you're probably wrong.
@@billmankin6204 I thought that right away since it is all so clear without any wind sound, then when it's over, you can hear barely that background sound of the water and maybe some seagulls. These folks probably have better than average recording equipment by this point so who knows. She is pretty good regardless of how the audio was recorded.

I think there's a Ukrainian performance by a young lady that would nicely follow the performance here of Hilary . The young lady is say 14 years old and performs a yodelling song on a talent show in Ukraine equally as well as Hilary here has performed her number .
Ukraine is in our thoughts and we pray for Ukraine and pray that some kinda revelation occur within russia concerning the insanity of the invasion.

@@HillaryKlug Yeah can understand that is sort of becomes just like driving a car something you dont have to really think about is like with pipes playing in Scotland rather a practice chanter (the thing on a set of bagpipes that makes the tune) without the complexity of the 3 in the case of highland bagpipes but one with lowland pipes keeping the reeds going with air, yeah you commit it to muscle memory by playing on a practice chanter so you dont have to think about it and can do other things as you're doing that

Actually is why Ripon in Wisconsin is named after Ripon here in North Yorkshire, England. Was (forget his name) one of the original settlers whod named it, here is where I was born though.
