So excited another book may be coming! I bought the book in 1987 when it was released and still have it perfect! I was living in NYC, and went to the Metamorphosis salon to get my style analyzed and makeup, hair. I’m a Dramatic Classic and it is SO GOOD to have this information. I always feel I look like me. When someone gives me a fluffy blouse or delicate sweet jewlery I know it is going out because I would never look good in this item. My closet is things I wear and my type. My hair and makeup too. What a gift!
You wonder why things do t look good on you? Read the book!
😍
I did, too. I'm Soft Classic.
@@lilibetp how great! Do you still use the cosmetic colors and hair style they recommended? It was fun there❤️
@@Barb6106 colors are a combination of Kibbe and Zyla, but I never did the hairstyle, because I can't stand for my hair to touch me. I do try to soften the bob, though.
@@lilibetp wasn’t Zyla similar to Color me Beautiful etc… Summer, Winter etc? I think still around? I seem to recall hearing about it.
@@Barb6106 kind of, but he has 6 archetypes in each season.
The one that really surprised me was Elijah Wood, I would have thought for sure he was Gamine
Yes! Me too! I’m not going crazy
I was just going to say that too!
Funny! I agree he has a playful or joyf aura to him (something maybe more related to gamines), but i think he has nothing sharp in his features, so he couldnt be a gamine. He has a lot of roundness to his face and body, so he could only be a romantic
@@niuuu To me his jawline looks strong and square. I just Google image searched him and see in some pictures his face seems rounder, so maybe angles and lighting are creating optical illusions. I’m not sure which look is the illusion.
Same! I was 100%sure he is a soft gamine.
I love scrolling through David kibbe's own Facebook sight, not the public forum. There he types in detail regular people and I found I learned alo t more from those examples than celebrities. Unfortunately he doesn't update his Facebook very often but there's at least a dozen examples of real life makeovers strewn throughout. Very enlightening.
i love that each type has so many different looking people but seeing them one after another you can really feel the vibe of that type
Maybe if he is typing people's essences, then it could make sense, but that's what the kitchner essences are for. Kibbe is supposed to be a body typing system. I think something is askew.
Hope you can make your own list for the next video, this time you can use modern celebrities, that way we can look up their current fashion and explore with that :)
yeah, kibbe never say that we can't make our especulations
Yes, this would especially help for finding clothing options as well since many creators online put out videos/tiktoks/posts about outfits inspired by those celebs' personal styles or styles from some of their onscreen characters with more affordable and accessible options or refer to brands to shop for a certain look/style.
I’m beginning to understand the system after following your channel for a few years now- I find I’m actually able to type people correctly before finding out their official type and the more I study this system the more fascinating and reliable it seems. David Kibbe is a genius! But I still believe in “pure” types ;)
Aly can you please cover the. 7 Essences next because I would prefer to see your take on it, I have seen others youtube channel about this, but I would like to see your interpretation
So interesting! Knew one of the celebrities listed in college and it looks like their body type remained consistent all these years even with changes that age and other factors. Also shows how having work done can confuse even the experts.
In Kibbe's NEXT book I hope he is a LOT clearer about his methods. Based on this list, his main criteria seem to be: facial bones, shoulder width, vertical line, and eye size. David K, if you really have a system or a test that tells, it's time to spill it!
Probably no test, since it's not a body typing system but an Image ID system. It's about taking a holistic view on the body, not focusing on details like eyes or shoulders.
@@purrgundy Yes, it's holistic, and that's why we love it. What I meant was does he have his own, private little "tests" that tell him someone definitely is not this or that. Broadly speaking, I'd love it if he used his next book to impart some of the "training" he mentions in last year's NY Times article.
I thought his whole thing as of late was to not focus on the face tho
seeing Beyonce and Christina Ricci in the same type seems a little off to me. And leo dicaprio and michael jackson in the same one also seems strange.
How is Pink FN?? She is 5'2??? Doesnt have elongation and is short in the legs... Come on
Or Sarah Jessica Parker.
To me, pink is textbook FG
@viola4029on high heels, yes. But without them you can notice quite large head compared to her body, which rules out having long vertical lines.
@@Bunnidoveor maybe a pure natural.
I feel like I really want see a make up tutorial you wear recently. I watch your videos and tutorials since you started on youtube. However, I feel like your makeup now is more talented than ever.
When is he coming out with this book 0.0
fr I would buy it
Hopefully, before George RR Martin publishes The Winds of Winter...
I pre ordered it on Amazon. May 2024

Thank you for including men ❤
I see so much inconsistency within each type and so much similarities between different types.
For exemple, why is Barbra Streisand soft dramatic if she is only 1.65 m?
Just because she has dramatic face?
You’re vídeos are the best, Ali!! So much effort you go through in your endeavour to learn and share with us ❤❤❤ thank you!!!
Recently you’ve made videos with Disney princesses and now celebrities, would you consider doing a video with the queens and princesses of today, please?
We see them everyday on TV or follow them in social media as their styles are so stunning and flawless and try to copy them… would be SO helpful to understand their lines
All the best 🎉❤❤
Dear Aly, i love your chanel! Thx for your work! I learned that I am a romantic and dressed wrong most of the time😅Could you do a video about how to dress for work in an office/very consevative for romantics?
Regards from Germany! 🤗
Wow Jessica Lange - 5'8 is typed as romantic? She is possibly Dramatic or FN... Guys im so confused by Kibbe. I followed this system for so long and i still cannot understand the lists. Im done
Yes, I think he must have mixed her up with someone else... Jessica is tall and looks tall, very elongated legs and arms, very sharp bones just look at those cheekbones. I think she is SD as she does have a lot of curve too. But definitely NOT R!!
I'm so confused as well! I'm a romantic by all the characteristics because I can't be anything else but now if Jessica Lange is a romantic I don't understand 😂
I agree with you when I looked at her for the first time I thought no way she is romantic. I still stand by the same opinion.
I've got the book and I stick with it. The modern examples are more than confusing.
He probably just didn't know her height or didn't trust it. He'll probably move her at some point
Jackie Kennedy Onassis always stands out for me among the classics. I can see that her body can pass as DC but her face is so broad and blunt, something just feels…off🤔
Yea, some people feel she is one of the naturals, to me she looks like a Flamboyant Gamine. She has the yin large round eyes and the yang strong jawline and cheekbone, creating the contrast. I know you are supposed to focus more on the body than the face, which makes it hard because usually the face is the most prominent part of a person and portrait photos only include the face.
Can you please make vdo on body types and best luxury fashion brands for them
That's a fun idea!!
@@kyrawoodruff2344 and specifically I meant like for eg Chanel makes clothes for certain body types, so just like that it'll be easier to shop according to that .
Thanks for this video, Aly! I love that you're recapping/refreshing on topics for newer viewers. Btw, I'd absolutely love a video detailing differences between soft gamines and flamboyant gamines. Or SGs and SNs. Thanks so much!
She has a long playlist and those types have been covered
Please please please do formal wear suitable for romantic / theatrical romantic body types
And soft gamine please! I have to go to a black-tie wedding in November and wear long fancy dress😮
Thank you Aly 🙂
This only gets more and more confusing
So true.
Very much since he removed "pure" types.
Yes, and why is it that everybody's reaction to being confused is to humble themselves more, instead of questioning the validity of underlying system? If Kibbe's system is so darn good, then it should make sense. The examples should clear up our confusion, not make us more confused.
Tbh, yes. Many unanswered questions and low-key contradictory messages. The more I learn the less I know.
Gregory Peck Soft Classic??? Kibbe where did you see moderation in him? Hes like 6"3 with strong features... Mens typing is so confusing
Absolutely brilliant
I don't get it
me neither. I think it's bogus.
I enjoyed the list but it seems to me that a few of these celebrities were assigned in the wrong catagory.
Great video! But I often wonder about Kibbe’s own typings, especially in learning he didn’t really invent the basis of the system. How could Mae West have possibly been soft dramatic? She was 4’11”-5’0” and looked very very small and round. I see almost no length or Yang at all. She’s got to be romantic or soft gamine.
She’s soft gamine
Absolutelly, shes totally on the opposite side of the spectrum, i think she is romantic. Also he said that the face is not to be considered , but i found that many celebs are typed based on their faces not on their bodies. Its quite confusing.
I have a similar body type to Mae west and it made me consider soft dramatic but I'm barely 5'5" and to me I don't think I'm vertical enough.... so I don't think she is either. It's more of her personality imo
I thought the same. I do not understand how she could be dramatic. Some of her facial features are sharp but I don't see how that would matter as much as all the roundness and smallness. She looks like some kind of gamine to me.
Romantics and Gamines would be overwhelmed by the scale of Mae West's outfits and accessories. If you consider the description of SD to be "Diva Chic," I think it matches Mae West's energy to a T.
This was very helpful, although some types are astonishing ( Shirley MacLaine)!
I’m so off predicting celebrity Kibbe types. I’ve seen Molly Ringwald in a lot of videos lately because I got hooked on documentaries about The Breakfast Club. Anyway, with her long neck, she gives off the same vibes as Audrey Hepburn, who Kibbe said is a Flamboyant Gamine. With that information, I confidently assumed Kibbe would have typed Molly Ringwald as a Flamboyant Gamine too. I seem to get caught up on one key trait that sticks out to me or get caught up in the sum of people’s parts. Makes me wonder if I typed myself correctly after being unsure about it for about a year.
Molly Ringwald did dress like a gamine.
But for Soft Naturals I can most of the times tell their ID by looking at their wide smile and their chin.
I've gotten scolded by the Kibbe community for this, 😂 but that's how I recognize them.
@@jinieroses8038 so I think I’m a soft natural and for me, the theme for naturals is squareness. I have the square jawline, shoulders, hands, and even square thumbnail beds. I think I’m soft and not flamboyant because of my smallish-medium height, big boobs and small feet, and likely small hands too but the square shape makes them look bigger to me.
At first though, I considered that I could have been an exceptionally short flamboyant natural or some sort of awkward dramatic classic, which I know is a contradiction in terms. I abandoned the idea of me being any type of classic because there is nothing balanced or symmetrical about me. Then I actually thought I could be flamboyant gamine despite Aly once saying flamboyant gamines and soft naturals have the least in common. I understand gamines as having contrast, and I have the long torso but short legs, big boobs but flat butt. I ruled that out because I would see flamboyant gamines in high necklines and double breasted blazers and both look awful on me. The soft natural lines seem to be what I feel the most comfortable in.
@@AngelaMastrodonato
I think, our very favorite (or most loathed) clothes often give it away. If you already have a style or at least some pieces, you feel you really 'pop' in (or not!), I'd take a hint from that over 'self perception', probably. Categorizing yourself is very hard, unless you're really the picture book example of a type.
For people, who are really unsure, I like to recommend going to a good department store and trying very different types of clothing. Many (especially younger) people have never seen themselves in sober business attire or a formal dress. Or something frilly and romantic. And it can really be eye opening.
Please includes me in the list Aly
😂😂😂
Debra Winger is an FG with natural essence so I can relate to her. I look nothing like Twiggy but I've got an almost identical body to Debra and that helped me to find my type.
Colin Firth is 187cm tall (6'1"). Why is he Romantic and not FN?
Apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is like 5’11” or 6’ and he’s also a romantic. Someone pointed out that actors might be lying about their height. Both these guys looked like Romantics to me before I learned their height. Both of them do seem sort of soft even when they are at their fittest. They also have very rounded facial features.
Now I think Elijah Wood was Romantic on Kibbe’s list and I would have guessed he was a soft gamin due to the contrast between his huge round eyes (yin feature) and strong square jawline (yang feature). I understood Gamines/Gamins to be a collection of contrasts, which gives them sort of a youthful, quirky appearance. In my opinion Elijah Wood fits this aesthetic. So I’m left not very confident in my understanding of all this 😂
Maybe height changes for men...?
Colin Firth has a square and angular face and angular body, Cannot be a romantic, looks like FN
It’s a typology, not a technology…
All the FGs have such different body types. I see no similarities. Also, would've never pegged MJ as romantic. To me, he is full of sharp angles, long lines, etc. Dramatic or flamboyant of some sort.
I know Kibbe says when the face and body don’t match, to ignore the face, but in this case, I think Michael Jackson’s pre-plastic surgery face is rounded and yin dominate. I also think he was on the shorter side which is a
more yin trait. It’s hard to figure out what makes a “Romantic” man though.
Or Soft Dramatic in his case.
McJimsey had six archetypes. The most yin is called ingenue.
How would you type Amy Lee of Evanescence?
Lucy Liu surprises me!
19:25 The picture on the left is not Michael Jackson's body at all. It's an edit
What’s your kibbe body type? I remember you said you weren’t gamine anymore, I’m curious to know!
I think she said she was a soft gamine.
I though so too, but I’ve read people say she no longer considers herself gamine anymore
@@MynameisdarkxxoI think she is not sure yet, that's why she have stayed silent about her body type to this day.
Still waiting. Has to be a soft-flamboyant gamine or maybe theatrical romantic.
@@janedelaney4327 there's nothing called "soft-flamboyant gamine".
too many strange things, I don't understand anything anymore
Gregory Peck who's 6′ 2½″ (1.89 m) is a Soft Classic?! What?! That doesn't make sense!
Another great video Ally.
Unfortunately I cannot tell the difference between these Flamboyant Naturals and Soft Naturals.
I am not sure if anyone can help me. I have been watching Ally for years and I first thought I was FN. So started dressing more like that. Then after a while I thought maybe I was SN.
I watched all of Ally's video compairing types. But I am unsure.
Does anyone have a different way of easily differentiating the two?
Thanks 💕
I was between the two aswell. Because of my head mainly. I have roundness and soft festures in my face. As i noticed height of SN could be above 5"7 aswell I am 5"7, have bigger than average hands and feet. How i realized i am FN though - try and error with clothes. Even clothes that are my size i feel restricted by. I look better with FN lines than SN ones. Also FN are tall no matter what they show like celebrities like SJ Parker and Amy Adams. I dont think they realize what it is to be FN, it is like the need to be free from restriction. These celebs are short.
So.my main suggestion to you is to honestly ask yourself am i frame and height dominant /FN/ or frame and width and some curve dominant /SN/?
@@Iliah97 Thank you for you thorough reply. I am 5"7 as well and do have large hands and feet. I do feel more myself in bigger clothes. I thought I was too short to be a FN. I definitely have a broad frame and look athletic, but I don't feel or look tall. My head is small for my body and makes me look even broader.
I have been wearing FN type clothes for a couple of years, but haven't felt quite right. My husband seems to think I have softness and should try SN clothes. I have always felt more masculine and can't see myself as soft, but maybe I am. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I do feel like I am closer to figuring it out. "Broad" is definitely me.
@@NikitaMaree Maybe we can benefit from both. Like playing with different lines and mixing them. Anyway i wish you luck in your journey 💌
@oceanangelTiti Mixing sounds good. Thank you. I wish you luck too. 💕
Actually it's missing from this video but at 5'8 and beyond you can only be FN, D or SD, and 5'7 DC as well. Another youtuber said at 5'6 you have to be FN, D or SD, I don't know if that's straight from the Facebook group Kibbe is in, he could have made the height requirements stricter. So it would seem SN could only be as tall as 5'5 or 5'6 depending on the source. This means some of the celebrities listed as SN would have to be migrated to FN, such as Molly Ringwald who is 5'8 reportedly.
As a 5'6 woman I find it rare someone my height is not yang dominant.
Not Bruce Jenner 💀💀💀😭😭😭

first comment - really interesting and interesting video!
I love your channel but still struggle to identify the types. After this I am utterly lost. Clearly, Kibbe typing is not my strength!
I have a sneaking suspicion that Kibbe typing is not Kibbe's strength either.
can not believe jessica lange is romantic

Beyonce is still a romantic even though she's 5'7". Kibbe, king of inconsistencies.
@@BunnidoveBeyonce is not that tall, as it od claimed, I've read she is only 1,6 m.
It’s interesting how often the names match.
What about Ben Whishaw. He's 1,77 m or 5'9 ft (I hope the calculation is correct). He's the same height as Cillian Murphy but Cillian looks more tall than Ben and also looks more fleshy to me. Ben is pretty small and looks tall but isn't. Could he be FG or TR? I'm so confused.
How come JL Hewitt is FG being 157 cm tall? Having the same height and complection as her, I'm so confused! Would rather consider us TR or SG at least. Totally disagree with Kibbe on this one 🙅🏼♀️

Thank you for putting this here! Though I’ll admit - I’ve been helping my friends find their kibbe for almost a decade, but even I get overwhelmed and confused by the celeb list 😂😝
Is it possible that this might not be a weakness in your perceptions, but rather a sign of inconsistency in Kibbe's logic?
I hardly see a difference 😂
What is Demi Moore?
She looks dramatic classic to me 😊
theatrical romantic here thanks for the viodeo Aly
Was Lucy Hale mentioned in any category ?
How is Colin Firth a romantic??? Hes the opposite wow
Totally agree! He looks so classic to me, maybe dramatic classic. Romantic makes no sense to me.
I always think of hourglass women being romantic, but all the types had women with hourglass shapes and not all the romantics were hourglass or even close to it.
Great video! How about Dakota Johnson as soft classic? There’s not too many of us.
Dakota Johnson can't be Soft Classic because she's too tall and has lots of elongation to her.
Ally Art, I hope you can show more Asian examples in the future!
She's relaying information from Kibbe. They're not her examples 🙄
@@rinnie35I meant for her future videos.
Hi Aly! Do you know is there still pure romantic? To help my confusion 😅❤
I believe he never got rid of the polarities (Romantic/Theatrical Romantic, Soft Gamine/Flamboyant Gamine, etc.). He only got rid of the nonpolar types, like pure Classic, pure Gamine, pure Natural. Romantic was and remains the ultimate yin polarity.
@lisemichelin6997 thank you for the help
Great recapitulation - looking so much forward to your new videos! XO
Would for sure Bardot and Basinger put in naturals, soft, and Belucci there for sure, Angie and Liv Tyler to the other supermodel group. Myself for sure I am not soft, and I was sure I would be classic, between two groups, lile in aestetic sense, first in the winter , and soft in late spring and summer, but I am that f group, natural or dramatic probably, eventhou my body is more classic from dramatic over the years, but probably natural
Most of these are so arbitrary, it's almost meaningless (Adding men makes it even more silly).
There are a few where it can be said yes, they are clearly a type, such as Marilyn Monroe. But most of the examples are performers who changed their image and body weight etc throughout life. Audrey Hepburn for example was very underweight. If she was her normal weight, she would have been a different type.
Dramatic/flamboyant - words mean almost the same thing.
I'm with you. I am convinced that these types are based mainly on faces and personality. It feels a little bit gasslighty.
I think Drew Barrymore is some sort of Gamine, not avRomantic.
Elijah Wood is a Gamin man.
I found the men's type list particularly interesting, but it's odd to see Elijah Wood typed as a romantic. He looks much more like a SG soft gamine to me, since he has a very boy-like face and manner.
Interesting when they share a common name!
The more I learn/see examples the more I doubt my kibbe body type 🙈 😵💫
The list of men makes me question the whole theory. I just don’t see the difference and the commonality between men of the same type or different
I know, I was expecting that most of the dramatic men were going to be tall sharp and narrow, at least to some degree. There are plenty of guys like that out there. But no. Instead we get a flood of broad burly men. I don't buy it.
I wonder if Marina Sirtis is Flamboyant Gamine...
Also, He Did Delta and Jean, but what about Dixie Carter (Dramatic? Dramatic Classic?) and Annie Potts (Gamine? Soft Gamine? Theatrical Romantic?)
Wait, Daniel Craig? I thought he's soft natural or romantic or smth😅
I can't see Emma Stone as FN. Her shoulders look narrow and she seems too delicate to me..
I agree. But then again, most of these make no sense.
Some don't seem right. Eg. Emma Thompson is too tall for one of the classics (5'8").
Did he always have Gene Tierney as Dramatic?
That one surprised me too!
But it also illuminated for me why Jacqueline Bisset, who I now realize must also be a dramatic, looks so terrible in delicate, yin-ish things.
Im curious to know if all twins are assigned to the same body type...like the Olsen twins. ....including brother/ sister twin etc.????
I'm thinking only identical twins would always be typed the same. Fraternal twins are no more alike than any other sibling. And siblings can be very different from one another.
Did Aly share her body type eversince she said she isn't SF ANYMORE? I am dying to know
Just wish he'd do more men
Now i know with certainty..i can't hide im definitely a soft gamine🤣
Да уж, современные звезды.. Половина из немых фильмов. Печально что нет категоризации самых знаменитых на сегодняшний момент звезд
Спасибо за видео, очень полезны фото и лица и фигуры
It's harder to do the modern ones because so many have had plastic surgery.
@@lilibetp oh yes)) that's true) but sometimes you really want to know it - just to check if their style complies with kibbeh recommendations and how it works
I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense. I have spent months trying to understand the Kibbe system. The Kibbe vocabulary has helped me to understand why some clothes work better on me than others. However, the Kibbe verified examples don't make any sense. Kibbe claims that his system is strictly about how fabric drapes over the body. However, most of these people only match the descriptions of their types thorough their faces, personalities, and the kinds of music or characters they play. If we are talking about that, then fine. But if this is meant to be about body types, then make it make sense.
I personally have a body that matches the description of FN, and that looks good in FN lines. However, my face has a lot of gamine, and as a person I have weird childish vibes. So based on this video, I have no clue what Kibbe would type me as. And at this point I don't care, because I am 98% convinced that it's arbitrary, and that he is just doing it to gaslight us into not trusting our own perceptions.
What Bea Arthur is FN? I was sure she is D because I think the wide clothes she wore didn't fit her 😂
Isn’t Jessica Chastain a verified soft classic?
No, she isn’t.
I hope in every video you can stick only to verified celebrities as examples because they are so many, please don't use your own opinions on your videos because it gets confusing
I hope she doesn't take your advice. It's clear David Kibbe doesn't even have a proper grip on his system so why not let people have their own opinions?
@@julieme7927seems like Kibbe himself doesnt use his own system
Sorry, but now I understand nothing. 😂 Perhaps I am too dumb to see that!!!!😢
If you're dumb, then I'm dumb too, along with just about everybody else in the world. David Kibbe is apparently the only person alive who can accurately perceive the human body....or maybe it's the other way around!
