Personally I loved Crackdown 2, it provided literally hours of endless entertainment. Now I am currently playing Crackdown 1 for the first time since its free, again its pretty awesome but I liked 2 better.

I do. Almost all the time. Michael is a fuckin boss. One of the funniest guys ever. He's even hilarious when he isn't playing with other people. Like in Full Play (Hope he finishes Banjo Tooie soon).
I've been playing the crap out of Crackdown 3, and having played all of them at this point I think 2 is actually my favorite. I admit though, it could've gotten away with being a big DLC for the first one rather than a whole new game. Minus the transforming vehicles it's just the first one but better as far as mechanics/gameplay goes. If nothing else, you can't pick up things like lamposts and use them like clubs/hammers in the first one, just throw them, but you can in 2 (and 3)
Guns'n Games 1226 2 and 3 were rushed to production, I played the shit out of both the 1st and 2nd games and 1 is still my favorite. I love amount of innovation put into a game from 2007. but I did still like 2, even if it is rushed. The weapons and melee combat was better, and the setting is a lot cooler

Because in Crackdown 1 you had goals and things to do in addition to freeform dicking around, in Crackdown 2 there's nothing other than dicking around. That's a downgrade, since most people enjoy a clear goal more.
You're right when you say that you see an orb everywhere you look, but that only happens in the beginning. Once you have collected a lot of them, it's much harder to find the rest.
I personally LOVE the Crackdown series and yes I know he just does this for the vids, but if you haven't tried any Crackdown games you should give them a try.
