I wanted to thank you for your videos. I'm no novice to RV rebuilding but this 95 coleman I pick up had some crazy self made drive tube thing. Owner got replacement from you but could not figure how it went on. He was missing roll pin but Ace has them. Your videos made sense of it real quick. The only thing I would and maybe you have a vid somewhere but when you say the sweet spot for clutch engage. I could not find one. It took me awhile but I figured it out and doing some mods to get there. Man should of videos it to share but I didn't. Mine had flat head screw drive nut and aluminum drive tube. The new nut did not go on far enough so I would get 2 full turn either way to make it engage disengage. So after modifying some washers to fit as additional shims it finally fit right and functioned properly. More shimming on mine was a must. So 3 additional washers then spring the nylon spacer 2 flat thin washers and fine thread nut. Thanks again for detailer video's but not over detailed.

Our popup cranks up with some difficulty but cranking down takes a wrench and lots of elbow grease. Would this repair help?

Hmmm, you may have multiple issues occurring Katie. This is not common

About to put on a new whiffle tree. How do I know if the crank system needs repair and not the tree? Cables are broke so starting fresh.

My best recommendation is to take a look at our other videos covering these systems for a wider range of action / solution answers. Real-time tech services are available as well if you need more personalized assistance.

I have had zero success rebuilding my crank assembly. Purchased the parts from Amazon (probably my first mistake - had to file them down, missing the bolt for the ratchet paw, no beveled edge on the washer, etc). When I went to lower the trailer the handle tube unthreaded.
If I purchase the 6311 from the site you suggest, does it come with every part I would need? Including the barring, barring housing, all bolts, and main housing?
I'm also confused how the mechanism is able to reverse itself, it seems to be latched against the ratchet paw.

Thanks for watching and writing! The 6311 system comes with everything shown. To learn how the system operates, please see our other content covering this question and the instructions on our webstore for installation.

Do I need to take apart the entire crank assembly to replace the thrust bearing? Thanks

My 6311 goes up great but very slow to return the top down. Almost like it’s just spinning. I’ll tighten it to lift the system a 1/4 turn (heat the ratchet) then lower again getting like a 1/2?inch of roof lower at a time. Any suggestions?

Likely a drive hub issue. I would start the diagnostics here.

Hi there! I was gifted a 95 coleman and after using it once the top will not crank up.. Upon inspection, the wiffle bar cranks only until it starts to bear a load. Then the lower crank just spins with no action. Does this make sense? lol Help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @popupcamperpro

This sounds like an issue with the drive hub extension tube

So if my top.roof does not go up, could this part be the issue? the cranks just keeps turning, but nothing happens. Have a great day.

This is typically a drive hub extension issue Rob. Take a look at some other of our videos covering just this component.

Does a new thrust bearing come with the 6311 crank assembly as it appears so in your video ?

How do you add Loctite on the *sweet spot* when you already have the nuts tightened AT the sweet spot. You'd have to take it apart, add Loctite, and THEN find the sweet spot again. If so, you'll need Loctite that does not hardened immediately.

    • @popupcamperpro
      @popupcamperpro  2 года назад

Good questions GnosisMan50! I recommend medium strength, which doesn't harden immediately and can be broken free again if need be. Most units just want the nut TIGHT. But these are machines, and like machines each can have it's own personality. I guess the best way to say it is use your best judgment and what feels right to your camper.

Best of luck to who ever is trying to install this part without a video showing how to do it.
    Beyond frustrated.
The worm shaft of the wiffle tree pulls the assembly too tight and the ratchet paw doesn't connect.
Time to burn this tent trailer down.

The audio and video are misaligned in this presentation (video is about 10 seconds ahead of the audio). It's still helpful, but a bit disorienting. Don't know if you can fix that. Thanks for the great DIY videos!
