    I wouldn't trust such a rusty tank for a second without testing it.

      I'd be more worried about what the inside of the tank looks like, than the outside. Somebody needs to track this guy down, and take that great big hammer away from him.

    It’s best to heat cast iron, then weld it, and immediately bury it in sand so it can cool slowly. That will give you a much better chance of a successful, strong weld.

    A little tip, when you connect the wires, put the cords in on the left side of the screws, because then the screws will pull the cords in, if you put the cords (as you was doing) on the right side of the screws, then the screws will push the cords out. By the way, a nice job.

    Agree with all comments. Heat a bearing , cool the shaft and it will drop on. Opposite for fitting in a case. Spent my life stripping and repairing well used machinery of all types, wish I had known about that magic spray that made nuts and studs free so easily when rusted in. Finally, hope the pressure test on that rusty pressure tank went well!. But interesting video.

      @@necsoiub i’ve been in the field for over 30 years air receivers. Do not rupture due to rust. Sorry it’s always over pressurization.
      The tanks are always full of rusty water and rust. Do you really think a tank manufacture is going to make a tank that’s going to rupture because of rust being in the bottom of it. If this was the case, this sure would be happening a lot but it only happens to a very small little air compressors why? ?
      The little compressor is running along and it’s starting and stopping using the pressure switch contacts.then one day the contacts weld them self shut or closed. Then you have a runaway air compressor. The only thing to keep the tank from exploding at this point is the pressure relief valve. If that fails, the tank will explode or maybe the discharge line might blow off to save the tank from exploding and that is how that happens.

  • @chuckb5012
    @chuckb5012 Год назад

    beautiful job BUT. no pressure check of the tank??? it could become a large quantity of cobalt blue shrapnel. also no balancing of the drive wheel. if it's unbalanced it could tear itself apart.

  • @Reman1975
    @Reman1975 Год назад +3

    I got 16 minutes into this and couldn't watch anymore. That tank's WAY too far gone to be reused. It showed heavy rust pitting on the outside, so god only knows what it's like on the inside. A ruptured tank is enough to kill anyone standing close. It's unpredictable, and even at 100psi, it has enough stored energy to launch the whole of that compressors mass into the ceiling, or across a room and to kill someone.
    If there's ANY question about the condition of a tank, it's always best to replace it, or do a wet high pressure test to check it's not going to rupture at normal working pressures.

    That crack. You can just weld over it and grind it down, but it'll cause a vibration. Better would be to grind both sides to a wedge and close the gap, then fill it with weld and grind it smooth. That would ensure the roundness of the wheel and reduce vibration.

    In fact the compressor is in good working condition only electric motor removed. no need to overhaul it.

    Excellent restoration. Well done. Although it needed a new engine I was impressed with how solid and well made the machine was. I am sure those elderly people will be amazed by your work.

    Why you not removed the all ball bearing ZZ dust O ring OF THE bearing it will stop lubrication when you filled oil to compressor the oil will not lubricants the bearing and the inner ball bearing shall , it will the case overheating of bearings , and your compressor crank gets jarm so remove the bearing O ring seal when installing in compressor where oil lubricants the bearing.

    Watching a lot of these videos where they pound on bearings is just cringe. If you are going to hammer on a bearing try to hit the part that doesn’t allow the impact force to go through the bearing balls.

      Also looks like thier is no need for the sealed bearings as it will have a oil bath could have left 3 of the 4 seals off the bearings.

      Take hollow pipe and put on bearing inner /outer cone and hammer. Remove bearing.

      Yo no restauraría un compresor en esas condiciones,es muy improbable,pero puede reventar..de hecho tengo uno de 50 litros que ya no utilizo por lo mismo..no lo tiro porque son muchos años y me da pena

    Old air compressors are like ticking time bombs - you never know when they will go off. It's not a good idea to have a bomb near you... that's why you never repair an airframe older than 10 years. safety first!

    Oriental Style Restoration:
    1 Get some junk in the trash can.
    2 Cleaning as much as possible.
    3 A little paint, to make it look like new.
    4 Now look the new junk, useless, but painted.
