  • KELSEY GOT A GUN 🤯🤯🤯 this week your two favs navigate maybe one of the toughest topics in conpod history (and look really hot while doing it) 😏 Can you be anti gun and own a gun?? How did we get to present day gun ownership?? Will Kelsey accidentally shoot Zach for not putting the seat down?! Only time will tell

My first recommendation would be DO NOT GIVE ONLINE UPDATES about your gun training or proficiency. It also may be better to be more ambiguous about your home security details. The fact someone knows you have ADT (which doesn't work), a 9mm with 15 round magazine (which you don't have yet), how you got your camera footage, how to climb over your fence and how tall it is, is probably too much for anyone to have.
Don't rely on other people's advice for your safety. Contact a Security Consultant.

Not American and well aware law enforcement in the US is terrible but I’m actually horrified that the police switched you to a non-emergency line and never showed up. That is so terrifying - for you especially, but also for your neighbours and even the offender himself if he is mentally ill and/or drug influenced. I struggle with the gun culture/gun violence in the US big time, but understand you wanting to feel safe in whatever way you can. And women, the gays and theys are particularly vulnerable, and violence against us is a huge deal all over the world. What a shitty situation Kelsey. It’s definitely scary and violating. I hope you never have to use it.
Also - you’re right, it is complex. This just shows that life isn’t so black and white. There is nuance because of things that happen in life. I hope people wont judge you harshly for making that decision and think you’re now the stereotype of a trigger happy southern gun owner.. in the same way I would hope someone looking at me (a woman married to a dude with kids Christmas lover 😬) won’t just assume I’m a het closed minded conservative because of stereotypes. There’s so much “grey” in it all, and talking about it openly is useful. Would I ever buy a gun? No. Do I understand why you did? Of course.
Hope you’re feeling okay and safe ❤

Also non-american and completely horrified that Kelsey was switched to a non-emergency line when there was a dangerous person in her fucking driveway!! And never showed up to arrest him?! I'm so glad I don't live in the US.

This gives you a lot of respect in the gun community, they're more likely to listen to someone who owns one.

Ok but I like Zach’s idea: Why can’t we have fingerprint detecting guns?

    • @ten-hx2xi
      @ten-hx2xi 6 месяцев назад +1

we did have this, the sensors would often fail to properly work letting anyone use it who got lucky, and they sometimes wouldnt detect yours properly, and thats not super great for an emergency defense system 😅 but it is a nice idea and id love it if that was perfected

They exist, but are unreliable. Think about your cell phone and how your finger has to be clean, unscratched, and sometimes randomly doesn't recognize.

On the 2nd Amendment history I'd recommend Michael Waldman's "The Second Amendment".

RUclipsr Johnny Harris recently came out with a very informative video comparing gun regulations in the US and Switzerland, which genuinely has citizen militias in the event the government is attacked. It touches on a lot of the nuance you two discuss regarding the second amendment!

Latex allergies can start out small with minimal reaction, but the more you’re exposed to latex the worse your reaction can get.

YES people need to realize that the “NRA FUNDING” and “defending your house/safety” are two COMPLETELY different conversations!!!!❤❤❤ i used to be SO anti gun but especially w the current geo political situation where martial law might pop off whenever, its starting to become clearer that people who think like you should have them because youre the kind of person who would be and seemingly is very responsible with it. i still dont think i would get a gun but i get why you would, theres really not much else you can do about someone entering your private home, that cant be reasoned with, and that doesnt care about you or your life. this was a wonderfully interesting podcast and i hope your glock makes you feel better at least at home, hopefully you never need it ❤

I remember reading a thread on X about someone who’s usually anti-gun but had to get a gun. Also, Americans talking about guns is not shocking anymore.

Obviously that dude struggles with social cues. Who in their right mind would say "That's stupid" about something harmless that you do straight to your face? You should not really do that to anyone in general but especially on a date.

I don’t think that’s struggling with social cues, it’s just straight up not caring (which IMO is a lot worse, bc not recognizing social cues isn’t someone’s choice, but not caring is). My autistic ass is terrible at recognizing social cues & I still can’t imagine just saying “that’s stupid” to a harmless question.

Honestly, Skyn or bust (sry lol). But as someone who abhors the smell of latex condoms I pretty early on tried to find alternatives, but likewise never realized how accidentally beneficial that was for my partners... Sexual health companies need to be held to higher standards!

There's a reason gun ownership doesn't lower your insurance premiums the way being a non-smoker or driving a boring car does. Everyone (especially people perceived as women and disabled, non-white people etc.) usually has whatever weapon used against them during an altercation. Solutions take longer when signing up for a self-defense course, but at least the person won't have to explain to a judge why a person is dead via gunshot. Maimed or blinded or in pain are much better alternatives for all involved. People should regulate their own behavior but of course, we can't wait for that to happen. If the cops are called to an altercation, the cops might just shoot the person with the gun. I'm worried and saddened for Kelsey and everyone else who bought a gun for defense against gun owners.
