The little town I live in has about 950 people and are not really preppers BUT many have gardens and chickens, many heat with wood, many have outdoor rainwater storage to water their gardens, many people pressure can from their gardens, there are orchards and fields and lots of cattle. This is just naturally a community where if people help each other and accept help, we would do well in SHTF.

This is just rural area life. But, even the Red Cross says people should be ready to take care of themselves, their family, and their community in an emergency. Outside help doesn't always arrive quickly. Rural areas know this.

People that Prep need to test out their new and old equipment because there are products say they can do things that they can’t or it takes certain conditions to work!! Test in all conditions not just perfect no rain conditions you need to know how it works after three days of rain and everything is not in perfect order! If not you will regret it!! And I found out that in really bad weather conditions having 8 charcoal briquettes will get a fire stated better than most of the fire starters sold in store s as long as you keep them dry and a little charcoal lighter fluid, or plain 90% rubbing alcohol and even with out starter fluid it will work great even when products like will light and products that work well in semi wet conditions but will let you down after a 3 day heavy rain event!

Though these devices have protocols in place to prevent batteries bursting during normal operation, just make sure batteries arent near heat sources including in the open sunshine

I say, start with the focus on for one week with the rule of threes in your home, then move up to two weeks. After you have two weeks, start on three weeks, and fire safety. Then four weeks, and savings. Yes, fitness and education. Begin to pick up being ready to walking from your vehicle to somewhere on your route after you have a month backup both in stock and funds. Later, complete your minimum get all the way home plans and pack while continuing going from one month to a two month stock at home (with rotation). There also is organizing and decluttering your things so that you can easily find things quickly. It will and should that time to get beyond that one month mark. You need the budget, the savings, the slow purchases, the planning, the learning, the practice. All this takes time and effort from both you and your spouse. Then, there is making the learning fun for your kids.
Readying isn't crazy. There are plenty of examples which have happened in the last fifty years: storms, hurricanes (Katrina), the Texas winter storm of 2021, fires, wildfires, bridge failures, Covid, economic down-turn, or the just personal matters: job lost, ill parent, car break down, house fire.

I don't think that's how it usually works. A MAG that already exists doesn't just take in new members, unless, you are something they really need, like a doctor. If you want to be part of a MAG, you have to meet people, get to know them, start conversations that don't actually give away anything but help you begin to understand what they are like. After you get to know them, if they seem like-minded, you could begin asking deeper questions, but keep in mind that if they are OPSEC minded, they will only share with you if you are willing to share with them. Eventually, you have friendships with like-minded people, and then you can introduce the idea of forming a MAG with them.
