Hi! Once a form 3 expires does the dr need to meet with you to reassess for a form 4? If the form expires and no dr meets with you or gives you a renewal form. - does that mean you are now an voluntary patient and can leave hospital as you please? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A Form 3 is up to 14 days, although technically a physician could decide a patient no longer meets the criteria and release the patient prior to the 14 days (or issue a subsequent form, resulting in a longer hospital admission).
The mental health act is broken garbage. My son is aggressive 14yr old suffering, we filed a form 2 and our son sat calmly during his visit. Then after he was "released" we recorded him saying, "their lucky they let me go, I tried so hard to remain calm." My son is manipulated the system and children shouldn't get a say on their mental health. He can't vote, can't get a job, can't drive, can't legally live on his own, but has full control over his "mental health".
It is incredibly common that patients "mask" symptoms at the hospital and then are sent home without any support. We hear it all the time from family caregivers!

Hospitals will typically have a "rights advisor" for patients who can answer these kinds of questions based on their specific situation.
