Looks like you may be straying into areas where the bad guys are a little tough, take time to up grade your armour, also i know it is hard with a game like this that has quite a lot of grinding involved, and grinding is not nesserly good viewing, but the game is worth it, but stop ignoring what npc's are telling you, they give you lots of valuable info.
