- This is a classic European sponge cake (aka Genoise) and is used throughout Europe. Once you have this recipe down (which is truly simple and you'll memorize it after a couple rounds), you'll be baking cakes that taste like the finest bakery-style cakes in the world.

Sheba Sunitha I was making a Victoria sponge the first time I made it it sunk in and the second time it sunk in after the first time I looked up why and it said because I opened my oven which I did the second time I didn’t open my oven and it still sunk in I am really excited to try this recipe and hope it works

WOW. Just wow. This cake was absolutely amazing! I made the whole thing in 10 minutes and it was delicious, super fluffy and so worth it. Best recipe... I halved the quantity because I did not need more than one cake for chocolate fondue... I also added vanilla for flavor while beating the eggs... It came out wonderful! Will try the recipe again...

I change the recipe a little bit by adding 1 teaspoon creamy vanilla and 1 teaspoon french vanilla essence also i use cake flour. I frost this cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting. She and her husband really loves it.

I saw your question and thought someone should answer you. Granulated sugar is like small little balls of sugar where the powdered sugar has been milled into powder as it says. I’m unsure of the results you would get if you interchanged them, I usually only use powdered sugar for icing or if a specific recipe calls for it. I suggest using google to ask if they can be interchanged in a sponge cake recipe. Sorry I didn’t have an exact answer. If you did try it I’d be interested in knowing how it worked?

I would really like a video on your Black Forest Cake recipe. I would really like to see all the steps. Especially, the assembly.
I have looked at so many black forest cake recipes and none compare to your sponge recipe.
I had tried another recipe from another YT channel and the sponge recipe was a disaster! It instructed to grease and flour the sides of the pans. My sponges turned out flat! So, thankfully I found your recipe and made new sponges. I did like the whipped cream recipe from the other YT channel as it was stabilized with gelatin.
Now, I use your sponge recipe for my black forest cakes and they turn out perfect every time.
So, I would really like to see a video on the whole recipe.

purpleshammrock the smell of the egg is so strong
NetherWolf plays I added a bit of coffee liqueur instead of vanilla and once you added the mascarpone frosting and soaking the cake layers in coffee plus coffee liqueur you can't really smell the strong egg smell. It's really good, tastes like store bought tiramisu. I used heavy cream instead of egg whites and tried the pasteurized egg yolk and also real egg yolks cooked over double boiling method and both tasted just as good. Though the pasteurized eggs needed to be whipped on high for a good 45 minutes (I used kitchen aid mixer).
Great idea, I have been surfing the web for some cake ideas with this type of biskvit and find that it very much resembles lady fingers, so tiramisu is perfect for this!

Thank you for posting this, I had given up on finding a sponge cake that didn't have a gazillion pounds of butter in it (ok, I'm exaggerating lol).
