- Restoration old D8 diesel engine | Restore and reuse old and rusty D8 diesel engines
Diesel engines, also known as combustion engines or CI engines, are named after Rudolf Diesel. The diesel engine is an internal combustion engine, in which fuel ignition is caused by the high temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical compression.
I hope you find something useful from this video!

Interesting ring installation tool, and air powered torque wrench to install the head, and other torque sensitive parts. These engines must be manufactured extremely robust to endure such.
The engineering quality of Rhodes engines is pretty poor at best however they are reliable and last a long time mainly due to everything being so oversized for such a small engine so none of the poor quality parts are working very hard
Very nice work
Good work
Công mặt máy ko chặt,có khói thổi lên mặt két nước....... khi quay ko nghe thấy tiếng kim phun đánh... nói chung là con máy 8 này còn phải qua tay thợ mới nổ ngon dv

To all the haters, ask yourself if you’ve ever been poor enough that you had to half ass it? I know I sure have in lean times. I hate to see reusing bearings and other items, but you’ve got to do that if you can’t afford or can’t get the parts. At least these boys are working and not sitting on their ass playing video games like my grand kids. Thumbs up!
i could see vapor coming from the water fill cap the headgasket might need to be checked..very nice video..thankyou
Oh, man...so much wrong here. Those crankshaft bearings may have been serviceable, but who could tell with all of the grit in them AFTER they were "cleaned". New rings aren't going to do much good if there isn't a good piston to hold them square to the bore. Someone commented that gaskets can be reused, but I'd never reuse a gasket on a complete rebuild, which this wasn't, so the old gasket (which clearly isn't sealing) is in this case par for the course. The many different colors brought some levity, which was completely eliminated by the paint on sealing surfaces. Watching this poor engine being put together without any lubrication was like fingernails on a chalkboard. They can afford air tools, but not a torque wrench? Then the pièce de résistance, filling the crankcase with dirty, used oil. Perhaps oil, bearings, gaskets and pistons (and more than a pint of whatever they were using to clean the parts with) is difficult to obtain wherever 'restoration it tool' is from. I laud their effort, but ultimately this was just uncomfortable to watch.
I got as far as him reassembling the crank shaft with the old shot bearings and stopped there, there is nothing worst to me then seeing some one do a job half baked, if you are going thru the effort to pull the thing apart do you self a favor and buy the right parts and tools for the job, you will thank your self later when you have a running and reliable machine, doing it haft ass might get it running again but she is going to fail sooner then if you just left in intact and used it till it stop working all together, honestly you just wasted a bunch of time and effort by doing it wrong...
Anyway it is his hardware so I should calm down and reserve my judgment it's just a pet peeve of mine to see things done wrong when it comes to anything mechanical and it really bothers me, I hope OP learns a thing or two from working on this motor and strives to improve his workmanship, I have to remember that everyone starts somewhere and when I was young I typically broke more things then fixed , so hopefully this was informative learning experience, sadly I can not watch past 20mins or so :P
Better luck on the next one anyway.
agreed couldve done much better half job
he basically just cleaned it no mechanical benefit whatsoever
and also the paint scheme
AND REUSED OIL WHO DOES THAT?
It was clearly just for the video he makes 1000s of dollars of 1 video weather it runs or not
you are professionals good job 👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
thank you
restoration it tool you are well come
Itu mesin diesel nya menjadi bagus
Let's reuse these fluids. It should run just fine long enough to do a short video. It only cost us a set of piston rings and some homemade gaskets. Oh, and was able to find something to do with all those mostly-used rattle can paints. And, heck, RUclips will send me a check for $70 which is more than I spent on the parts.
We have this engine to use in our fishpound to make more water.
There is no denying you are incredible both of you, however, if you look at the engine you assembled, you must change the liner, piston, piston rings, valve guide, plunger and nossle tip, those things make your engine better performance, that's why your engine is hard to start and as you can see the smoke on the radiator is not normal.
Thank you I will change what you say
Yup this is very true and definitely why you are pressuring the cooling system
Wow Alexis, tell me, why change the piston if the piston is good and he did change the piston rings. why can`t you buy all the parts for him and help him rebuild it. I will love to see that :)
@@tommyaleks100 the piston was shot, there is scoring on the side of it. Alexis is correct rebuilding a diesel engine is not just changing the rings and painting it.
Maravilhoso trabalho parabéns vejo todos os dias.
do you not use oil when doing assembly, put together dry is not good work
This is a no-cost rebuild...lol
@@robj2704 Even reusing the old oil would be better than running it dry to start off. smh.
They are reusing the old oil
Generally I would agree with you. Especially on the piston rings, But I believe this is a splash lubricated engine. And it's going to be a hand cranked to start anyway. So my guess is plenty of oil will get splattered around before this thing will actually light off and be running.
I like thus working

Now i'm remembering my childhood. When my cousin restore his "chang chai" diesel engine...
I could point out a hundred mistakes you made here but these old engines don't care about the mistakes. They still run no matter what. lol
Nice colour combination 👍👍
Nice job,you should not use an impact wrench assembling an engine or transmission, impact wrenches are for wheel nuts.
thank you
It's so cool. .. it's so easy
You washed all the lubrication from the bearings and then reassembled it without any lube. Oh the sweet music of metal on metal when you reassembled it. And did you really just pop a pint of used black oil in after reassembling? You guys can maybe spray paint but you can't restore.
Used motor oil, brilliant....not so much.
If it works it works
Everything just infuriated me not a good watch then to top it off with with dirty used worn out engine oil looking forward to fresh oil freshly painted cleaned engine then that slap dash job
oil is seven bucks a quart....
The job was a total waste of time and effort right from the start all it was was a badly done clean up with no mechanical benifit what so ever.
Eh, put it through a coffee filter it'll be fine :P
Make sandblasting is perfect for solid metals
Aktiviti ini menarik, kepada penonton.
I love the fact that he knew exactly where to go to take parts off.⚡
You should change crankshaft bearings and inspect injector...engine is smokey a lot
Very good
thank you
Sensacional guerreiros!!
Not a tourqe wrench within miles nor valve grinder or gaskets or new bearings but lots of paint!
Maybe because they don't worry so much, and just want to get it running
I can understand that the standards are a bit loose, but this work was not good even by any standard. no new bearings, no adjustments, no proper torquing, dents could have been easily fixed and last the engine was giving back pressure from the radiator. there was water on top of the piston when he removed the cylinder head. how did you address that?
Gran trabajo cuanta sabiduría 👌👏👏👏👏🙌
định mệnh , 2 ông này khỏe vậy ?
We can't have plastic straws but they can wash oil and dirt down the drain.
Bravo mon ami tu travailles tres bien.
the piston must also be painted
Ok so you rebuild it and then use used oil that came out of it instead of new break in oil real smart.
Tiết kiệm chai nhớt quá, nhìn phát biết VN mình
Who the hell taught you to drop a valve like that?!?! Also all paint in the case is gonna flake off into the oil

Thank you for this video. I watched all the way through. you are a clever man to do this without a big workshop. Ian. UK.
thank you very muck
But that old thing is what we are using right now and still looks brandnew
You didn't use any drop of oil when assemble this engine, the sealant rings and the whole engine will run dry in the first minutes. It is nice. But the process sholud be improved...
How to. Overhaul briggs sraton

Wow SAE-40 CD GRADE diesel engine oil cost like 2$ per liter nowadays it seems 2 liters needed for that type of engine why reuse some other engine crap rather than new nice job
It blows my mind all that stuff you just put down the drain or toss into the ground!(grease, oil, paint stripper etc)
Do you have a disposal place for these?
not to mention the lack of shoes in a workspace guess they dont understand the idea of this stuff being heavy....and the lack of torque wrenches...oh yes we do have a proper place to discard stuff like oil grease etc
You work with what you got. You should of saw what it was like in Afghanistan
Ang galing mo naman po magrepair
Well the engine first let off I think I saw a smoke coming out of the coolant reservoir. That might indicate a gap in the cylinder head gasket.
for some other place where combustion gas could get to the coolant passages

Wait! You forgot to paint the piston! 😂
And bearings from inside!
Ah yes, Asian bluegrass.
You did it, you like a meticulous japanese mechanic but used oil mekes it un perfect😆
Good restoration though putting back old oil back into a clean engine is not good practice and another reason why the engine was smoking after it was started.
thank you very muck

Hmm no new ball bearings "definitely too expensive"
This is not an restoration but a refurbishment.
OK will try to put new ball bearings, then can u name it has restorations?
@@kamals6624 No. This was a cleaning and paint job (with paint overspray in the crankcase), oh and you did replace most of the gaskets and the piston rings. Restoration would have included new valves and valve seats (or at least lapping the old ones) and valve guides and maybe new springs, new connecting rod bearings top and bottom, a lapping of the cylinder, perhaps a new piston, and a rebuild of the fuel injector and high pressure fuel pump. There was no attempt to clean out the deposits in the water channels in the block, no attempt to torque any of the nuts and bolts and you even reused the old rubber gasket for the coolant chamber. Did you make any attempt to set the rocker arm gaps? From the color it looks like you reused the crankcase oil and you put everything together dry. A restored engine should have as much life expectancy as a new engine - this engine has had its life only slightly extended primarily by the new piston rings which will keep the compression high enough to run until something far more expensive breaks.
All that said, this may have been all the owner could afford to have done. Still, using a torque wrench and lubricating dry parts during assembly would have taken no more time and cost nothing more and masking the crankcase and gasket surfaces would have added little extra time. What do you think will happen when that paint dissolves in hot oil?
he has used old engine oil. The oil was too black .

Unfortunately that motor will have some issues because of the build. But I doubt that a thorough rebuild wont fix the issues you just caused.
That looks to be a very robust engine design. Good job on the restoration.
thank you

The second exhaust outlet added via to coolant
cap is a nice modification,.. possibly rusted through or cracked head, or could just be caused by painting the machined surface that the head gasket sits on.

God I really cudnt believe my eyes when you wer dumping in old/used engine oil into the crankcase....😂😂
yyy.
Spent all his money on a new set of piston rings. No need to buy a cooling system cap. There's too much blow by coming out from the warped cylinder head to install the cap anyway. But, hey, youtube sent a check for $50.
Like video supot friend forever
The tractor could use a little pressure wash as well.... :-)
