      I have played MAD MAX in February this year first time after 8 years , my first adventure was fail , as there came out few good games and I kinda forgot about that game , and when I play 2023 at first game was 6/10 , then after a bit game got to 8/10 ... just to fall to 6/10 after I finnish it , I have spend around 30h with that game but 10h was waste of time , as ending sucks , I have play to do all in game when I play it , but after terrible storry writting , irritating 2 fights with that chick that was pasanger at the race , and later freak (I forgot what was his name) , they fought very diffrent that anybody else in game , and game cheated at that fights freak fight tak4e literally 20min for me after that I just wanted end game as fast I could , I played I can forget , I will never play it again .

    one thing that i really enjoyed with this game is the sidemissions where you collect parts for diffrent stations of a base so that everytime you return you can restock you supplies. But it also impacted the base looks and the npcs attitude against you. This made the progression feel more real and rewarding instead of you just caring for yourself.

      @TheScepticalThinker1 Really good. The vehicle explosions are unrivaled; burning tires, metal shavings, axle and suspension parts, etc all go flying. Plus the actual fire ball itself looks sick. It actually looks like a petrol explosion with thick black smoke. If you do get tired of it you don’t have to engage the convoys which is where the most intense of the vehicle combat occurs. Exploration is the funnest part for me, followed by the combat and car physics. You can even use a first person view/cam while driving and it’s done correctly with a nice wide FOV. It looks sweet looking down your hood with the supercharger sticking out of it.

      @MILOPETIT 8 месяцев назад +4

      I mean even back then it felt like another cookie cutter open world with Arkham combat, tower checkpoints and unnecessary crafting systems.
      I think nowadays it feels almost refreshing because the map isn't ridiculously large and bloated to last forever, and the progression isn't artificially stretched to incentivize buying XP boosts and other microtransactions.
      This isn't a hidden gem, it's just a mid but inoffensive open world that shines now that most AAA games are worse than mid

    • @Ward413
      @Ward413 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@MILOPETIT While I concede some of that is true - no doubt many older games look great today compared to the travesty that is the modern gaming industry - I remember enjoying Mad Max day one. The combat, while inspired by Arkham, is its own unique thing and feels insanely good as you actually feel like you’re breaking someone’s jaw. I think the SFX and the brief slow motion when your hits connect really sells the weight of your punches. It just feels like a brawl. It’s great fun and I never get sick of it. Even the car customization was interesting like the grappling hook and harpoon were a great idea, especially having the hutchback operate it while you drive even though you as the player still control it, obviously. Even something as simple as still being able to drive the car while sniping for a better sight picture was novel. It’s a lot of little things that add up to an awesome experience. The map was also just dope with a ton of cool stuff to find, including massive unmarked fortresses outside the map boundaries. So it’s hard for me to consider it mid but I agree it’s aged better than it would have if it weren’t for what this industry has become.

    I remember playing this game over the summer break after my first year of uni. I was broke, living off of cans of sardines and condensed milk. My friends had gone home, I was in halls alone and feeling bitter about a break-up. Aside from doing burpees, looking for jobs, and taking long lonely hikes in the scorching heat, this game is what I occupied myself with. The bleak, sun-scorched landscapes littered with corpses and rusted-out vehicles, completely bereft of decency or humanity, it was like staring into my own soul. I felt like Mad Max, angry, jaded, tortured by past failures, driven mad by isolation.
    I don't even like these types of cookie-cutter, open-world, Farcry rip-offs. This one was genuinely immersive. Driving through those endless deserts and experiencing its bizarre and disturbing post-apocalyptical cultures was a meditative experience. I just wish the combat had been deeper and more challenging. Also, I think they should have made the survival and crafting a much more significant, fleshed-out part of the game. I hope they make a sequel so they can get these things right. This game is by no means my favorite but it will always occupy a special place in my memory.

    I think this game is a 10/10, masterpiece, underrated, etc... for a niche audience that can really immerse themselves in sandbox, open world type games.
    As a casual gamer, I found the gameplay loop incredibly repetitive and didn't bother progressing past 20%. However I think the XBox Series X version of this game gets a resolution increase but more importantly a frame rate boost to 60fps which probably improves the overall pacing and feel.

    I really felt like the car itself was a character while I played this, definitely my favorite element of the whole experience. I love games that give you a vehicle or some kind of conveyance that has it's own limits and is separate from the player character. I was a huge fan of the Master Cycle Zero in BOTW as well, the moment I beat the game I started a master mode save but modded the bike to be available from the very start! I remember Xenogears as another game that blew me away as a young'un because you could hop in/out of your mechs any time inside AND outside of battle and were sometimes required to in order to progress or find secrets. Hell, I'd beeline for Epona as soon as you turn into an adult in OoT.
    Absolutely love this game. Should have gotten DLC and sequels/spinoffs. The "DLC" option in the main menu is now just a cruel joke, a twisting of the dagger.

    One thing that really has to be noted here is that it is one of the very few games that put their focus on two different genres. The driving and Racing and Car customarion is on the Level of a proper racing game while the combat and exploration is on the level of a action game like the dark knight games. Most games are good at one thing. For example GTA where the being on foot and fighting is good but driving just feels wrong

    I remember getting this game when it came out a few months before Fallout 4. I thought for sure it was gonna be my little "post-apocalyptic appetizer" to get me hungry for F4 but I quickly got hooked to the game and played it even moreso than Metal Gear Solid V which was another triple-A game released at that time.
    If I can only say one thing about Mad Max its that I love how expansive the map is, it genuinely feels like a proper WASTELAND unlike what happened with Fallout 4's Commonwealth map where everything is basically across the street from everything else. Max had such a sense of expanse like if it didn't have vehicles and you had to travel on foot it'd take hours to get anywhere.
    Hope we get a Mad Max 2 eventually, possibly with a character creation system or a more in-depth Magnum Opus system. Probably gonna take another movie in the franchise being released.

    I agree, this game was too much fun and had details I didn't expect from a supposedly simple title. After a certain character death late in the game, if you meet someone begging in the waste, you'll have a vision of them asking some guilt-filled question concerning their demise. It totally caught me off guard when it happened, and I almost didn't see it since there's only so many beggars on the map.
    Also, while you are right about the odd button layout, I think it's surprisingly intuitive. Once you learn the game's specific style of combat, you'll notice that the buttons are mapped out that way because of the game's mechanics. Jump is on the trigger so it doesn't compete with the button functions, and the shotgun is B since it's usually auto-aimed for you. Sure, it's a bit jarring compared to standard shooter game layouts, but it makes sense for the featured combat - you're encouraged to throw yourself into the fray and dig your fists into enemies. Plus, ammo is scarce in the early game and limited in the late game by how much you can carry. Running and gunning just isn't feasible.
    Besides, the bases you raid are chuck full of stuff to use as weapons for each enemy type you encounter, so combat becomes it's own exercise in resource management.
    Man what an absolute gem of a game. I'm glad I was able to play it for myself, it is uniquely fun despite following a similar map-clearing style of gameplay as other games.

    I finished this game 100% with platinum to boot but I got the game free via PS+. The reason I ignored it from Day 1 was because it was so close to the release of the Mad Max movie I thought its nothing more than a cheap generic movie tie in games, which usually tells me it will be a very bad game. I happily bought the game again on Steam just to show the developer my appreciation for making this very fantastic game.
