    Great to see you again, Mary. I managed 89 days in a row and loved almost all of them. I finally missed a day when I was stuck on a plane travelling and actually thought about walking up and down the aisle lol. I'm also starting again on Jan 1. I'll be following along with you. ATB to you and Dereck. 🙂🚶🚶‍♂

    Good to see you again. Some back problems can be worked through but, many only get worse the more you aggrevate them. My wife crushed 3 discs in her back at age 28 and had severe back pain until she died at 65. It may be a bad idea to keep walking. I wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year. Good Luck, Rick

      I’m so sorry to hear about your wife Rick. Thank you for sharing your concern though, it means a lot. I’m under the guidance of a physiotherapist and have had an MRI scan and an X-ray to confirm it isn’t disc or bone problems. I’m planning on staggering my walks to start with throughout the day followed by gentle yoga so it’s not all in one go and i hopefully don’t aggravate it too much 🤞

    I recently completed 34,000steps per day to do 1million in 30 days. Never again of course but now try to get 10,000 per day in. We'll done to you. Everyone should be doing this. Thanks for inspiring others x

    Hi Mary! I find that sitting in a small straight back chair that has no arms attached and stretching side to side using your arms is helpful for the abdominal and oblique muscles and will strengthen your back. Then bend forward and cross over to the knees with your elbows. I do 20 stretches times 3 repetitions.

    It's great to get a video from you, Mary! I hope you are well and the rest of 2024 as gone OK for you. I can definitely relate to this video, as I am a runner/jogger and likely future walker as I get older. I do like to get out in the morning, if it is light enough to get a run in before work. Getting exercise early in the day seems to set the stage for a calmer day.

    Hi Mary. Well done for completing your challenge - especially having to cope with the back pain. You've given me food for thought re your next challenge. I completed the Coast to Coast in September, but then due to a minor Op have done nothing since. I need to do something to get my fitness back - maybe..... I'm not sure. Thank you for sharing your highs and lows 🙂

    Hi Mary, Maybe you need to walk with a heavy pack as on the PCT to resolve back issues 😄. You seem to have good access to hiking areas there. Do you need to drive or take public transportation to get to the trails?

      I know!! Thank goodness I did the PCT when I did 😆 Yes I have good access to trails nearby, it’s the reason I moved to where I am now - I’m 3 minutes walk away from a trail 😊

    My Garmin watch encourages this. I’m at 95 days, mostly because I want to hit 1,500 miles for the year - 1.6 miles to go! But overall, I think trying for these steaks is not good for fitness. Garmin challenges emphasize streaks of a single activity. No rest days allowed, no variety. Even on days when I do a 50+ mile bike ride, I still feel the need to add walking miles/steps. I know it’s not healthy and vow to stop, but Garmin has me hooked on points and badges.
    All that said, getting into the habit of walking every day has been good in that I’ve learned to be comfortable and (mostly) happy walking in any weather.

      I do agree with you that rest is good, I remember doing the 75 Hard challenge and my body begged for a day off! I do love a challenge though 🤣 Congratulations on your achievement this year 🙌🏻

    Good luck...no challenge for me because but I run very regularly and don't need motivation. I do force myself to ride out in the cold once a week though.
