Great video. As an FYI, you can get to and replace the thermal fuse by just removing the bottom panel then the fan shroud. You'll need smaller hands and a 1/4" box end wrench to get to the screws. Once they are loosened you can then use just a 1/4" socket to remove and then replace them. Total time 12 minutes including vacuuming out the bottom of the dryer.
Just want to agree with Peter. You do not have to go to all that trouble to remove the drum. Yes, it makes it a bit easier, but just get a 1/4" socket and small socket wrench and you can - while laying on the floor, and with some dexterity - remove and replace the thermal fuse simply by removing the fan shroud. NOTE: before removing the fan shroud, you HAVE TO pull out the lint filter screen from inside the dryer, or you can't get the fan shroud off (it's the receptacle to the lint filter screen).
Yes this is how I got to mine, I bought the wrong fuse so still waiting on the correct one lol. What’s the fuse next to the thermal fuse with the red wires? Just in case
Yep, no need to remove the drum. Open the bottom panel, two screws to remove the shoot, and the fuse is accessible and easy to change. Note: YOU NEED TO CLEAN THE SHOOT AND FAN anyway! That is what caused the fuse to melt in the first place.
So you don't need to remove the door? Just the cover on the black piece ?@@jmorgan9388
Thanks so much for this video! I learned how to properly disassemble my dryer (and it got a nice vacuuming) even though my issue didn't end up being my thermal fuse, but instead a broken belt! A quick Amazon order and $40 of parts later and I had a multimeter to check the fuse, 2 new fuses (replaced it just in case), and a new belt. You saved us over $100 and helped me gain the satisfaction of a job well done by myself. Thank you for sharing!
OMG. I got no heat coming out of my dryer. Figured maybe I could replace a fuse. But to replace the fuse we have to disassemble the entire Dryer. Wow. Good Video.
It’s Nov 2020 - just wanted to say thanks for this video. When my dryer stopped i figured why not see what YT had to offer. I saw your video, ordered the part and used you as a guide step by step. While some smaller things were different in my model, you were spot on for 90% of it and even when i felt i had gone too far, would enx up calling someond to fix my mess, i just stuck to your instructions. Now i have a working dryer for under $20 bucks and 2 hrs of my life, which isnt a bad deal! Thanks for posting this and giving those of us willing to take a shot a little guidance.
Great video. Took me longer to drive to get the parts then to fix my almost 21 year old dryer which is now back in duty.
Great video. Was able get our dryer going with a new thermal fuse. The trickiest part was getting the belt back on because of the tight space reaching in. In the video it looks like somehow the closeup was filmed from inside the back so the image was reversed.
I can't thank you enough for this how to video.. I am a 65 year old grandma and I watched your video five times thoroughly. The only thing I did not realize was the ratchet and ratchet set sitting I tried to take the screws out with a plier.. but then soon discovered a completely new ratchet set out on my grandson's desk hidden under a lot of stuff.
Took the whole dryer apart as you showed removed the great big silver dryer tub and you showed with the belt after replacing the fuse attaching all the wires again. I put the the silver tub back in on the roller connected the belt.. In short I got it all back together and the moment of Truth came when I pushed the start button and it started so very happy Tank you again..For a little being like me it was a bit hard lifting the big sliver side tub out and getting it back in..But shows what a little determination will do..😏
I just replaced the thermal fuse on the same Kenmore dryer, and I was able to remove it via taking only the front lower panel off, and work around the right front lower side. I was able to fit my hands in with a volt meter to confirm, via a continuity check, that it was burned out. Then I used a nice tight 1/4' ratchet with 1/4 inch socket, and the two screws holding in the fuse, came out easily. Take your time. put new fuse in place, pilot screw holes with an old screw. Tape screws onto socket, so you don't drop any. Put on connectors last.
The fuse looks like it can go in either way. But I did notice a small notch on one side, which was closest to the front of the dryer.
These was also a ton of built up lint all over the bottom as well as going into where the igniter lights up the gas. Looks like it was not too safe.
After a good vacuuming, making sure nothing looked like fire hazard, It was fixed and good as new.
Just make sure the fuse part number is correct for your unit.
In New Jersey this repair cost $175, if your lucky. Sears will do it for $250.
This Fuse is under $2 , if you buy it on line, and an aftermarket one is what the repair men use!
Did your dryer work at all when the fuse was bad? I have the same dryer and it works sometimes and cuts off others.
@@terryweaver4012 was it the fuse?
I figured this was the case. This was the only reason I scanned the comments. Thank you for confirming
Was going to be a minimum of $150 for me to repair my dryer. Thanks to your video, I had my dryer back up and running for $13 and about 90 mins worth of work. Very well done and easy to follow. Thanks for speaking slowly and clearly.
This man helped us fix our dryer. Thermal fuse. It wasn’t as easy as it looked but did solve the problem. Thank you for this video. We went to a parts place and they tested our relay switch. They said it was good. So we went in to fix thermal fuse.
That was amazing. You are so clear, and I love that I can actually see what you are doing (the steps). Many fix it or techy videos move so quick, and it's tough to tell exactly what is happening. I am a single mom, and I've had a broken dryer for probably 6 months or more. I think I can actually do this!
I'm a 57 y.o. single lady. I'm almost done doing this, & I probably saved my house burning down, as there was 3 inches thick lint throughout. Lots of dog hair.
Thank you for putting this video together. It saved me a LOT of time, and kept me from second guessing. Thanks!!!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. A perfect example of how infinitely useful the internet can be for education.
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you so much for making this video! Our dryer would make a click noise but not turn on. We thought it was the fuse, but after opening up the dryer we saw the belt had broken. Went to Menards and got a new belt for all of $10, and dryer is working again! Probably saved ourselves hundreds of dollars. It may seem like a lot of steps but it's not that hard
Thank you for posting this! It helped me fix my Kenmore Series 80. Went in to change the fuse, and realized that the belt had snapped! So I changed 'em both, thanks to your video!
Awesome video! I watched it twice, its not even my model of dryer, I simply like well presented videos.
Great video! I’ve had this dryer for at least 15 years and should now get 15 more out of it! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this. My dryer works again.
Thank you so much for this video! I had no idea how to do this before I watched this, and I was able to do everything you did here. In my case, the issue was a broken belt, but I was able to completely take the dryer apart and put it back together because of this video. You were clear and concise and showed all the necessary steps up close so I could see what you were doing. Thank you!
Great video! It was very helpful in fixing my dryer. I did have a little trouble with the pulley system since I couldn't quite see what I was doing, but I figured it out!
Thanks - this was perfect. You showed just enough detail without any extra fluff. I was able to fix mine without a hitch, and I'm back up & running.
These videos are awesome and in depth. However, shame on the manufacturer for making the replacement so complex.....safety reasons I guess. Anyways, thank you much for the video!
Man you’re awesome - I have to do this repair tomorrow. You make it look easy.
The pully part looks hard!
This repare is so easy after watching this video. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video!!! I’m a complete novice but this allowed me to repair our dryer this week.
Holly cow I rather cut a custom tiny door on the left bottom of the dryer to remove that censor. No need for all that trouble. But good video I learn how to dismantle it. Thanks.
Honestly disassembly was really easy this took me 20 minutes... Also if you disassemble you can vacuum all of the lint out of it. Plus good luck cutting into your dryer you goon lol
I just fixed my dryer thanks to this video. 👌🏽👌🏽
Thank you so much! I wonder how many dryers got trashed due to this little part. I learned a lot and fixed my problem. Thank you again!
What a good video the best video compared to others. Easy to follow.
Excellent video, Thanks again!!
Thank you for this video, Dryer back in operation.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Thank you sooooo much for this!!!
Excellent video. Very helpful and well made. Thank you very much!
So very helpful - thank you!!
Great video. Sure makes it easy to do when it's the same model as the one in your house.
I would have lit my dryer on fire from pure rage had it not been for this video. I’ve never taken more than the lint trap out of my dryer so this was extremely helpful for me. The thermal fuse wasn’t the problem..my dryer is just an old piece of junk that needed a lot more than I was willing to invest. But if I need to replace something in my new dryer 1) I will light it on fire but 2) I’ll feel more confident about taking it apart and will seek out your videos
Thanks so much!
Thank you! I was able to repair the dryer.
This is awesome! Thanks!
Thank you for this video.
Thanks so much this helped a lot
Supper video. MANY thanks.
I would not have had a clue.
Thank You, Great Video.
Hello I have a question I replaced the fuse like you should in the video but when I put everything back together the start button won’t cut the dryer on
Thanks so much, it was big help....
Wow, that's a lot of deconstruction. I got excited when I saw you remove the cover for the power panel hoping that that was where the work would be done. And when you started removing the drum, all hope was lost. Thank you for such a detailed explanation in the video. My dryer is 20 years old. Trying to figure out if I have the ambition to tackle this. I fixed my 20 year old dishwasher several times via videos, so I probably will tackle this.
Can't say how closely your opinion matches mine. "All hope was lost" at the exact same time, although "removing the springs" didn't sound fun and (with other more useless videos) that front panel took about 30 minutes to remove.
I'm just surprised (and disappointed) that it takes deconstruction to change a fuse. Either the engineers were incredibly poor or else they did this on purpose (get more product sold vs having an easy fix).
@@donsloan2075 It doesn't. All you need to do is unplug it, open the bottom panel, remove the lint duct (2 screws) and you can easily change the fuse. Also remove the fan cover (2 screws) then clean all the lint out of the lint duct and fan which is what caused the fuse to blow. This guy has turned a 15-minute job into a half days work.
I have this exact dryer. How do you check or clean the blower housing as you mentioned? Thanks for the great videos, I've come here for several dyi repairs and your instructions are always so clear!
Thanks for the videos, they really helped and I felt like a professional mr fix it.
Only my electric Kenmore 90 series dryer stopped heating up after running for a few minutes. Removed thermostat and restarted it again..perfect but then went off after few minutes. What may be the problem!!
why would they have a fuse not in front easy to get to ????
So the dryer repair man can make the big money.
Hi . Greetings from Peru. My frigidaire dryer DE500ADW5 overheats and the power to the heating element is not turned off . Besides , the wires and terminals to te heating element are getting chared. What coud be the problem?
Great video! But what is the thing next to the Thermistor? It has 4 terminals and and purple wires.
this was perfect.
Would a Kenmore. Elite stop and act unplugged if the belt broke thanks your vids are awsome
I have two blue wires attached to my thermal fuse.Is that okay?
Nice video however - way too much work just for simple fuse replacement; as mentioned by others you don't need to take the drum out like this; just remove the fuse using 1/4" socket, with the drum still in place. Also of note - this video only addresses one of the two thermal fuses in this model Kenmore dryer - there is another thermal fuse, of a different type, on the side of the heating element. You can see it at 4:54 in the video - it's the second-component-back on the heating element on the right side.
Good to know. Thank you for mentioing.
What’s the fuse next to the thermal fuse? The thermal fuse is the the 2 blue wires correct? Next to it is one with red wires, what is this one?
Wow. Easy task. Shall we also unfold all the metal casing of the dryer, sand it carefully and paint it before reassembling everything ?
My dryer won't turn on but when I push the start button I can hear the timer making noise what does this mean?
Note…. on some units like mine, the part is in the back and all it takes is 6 screws.
does it matter which way the fuse is put in ?
Hope I can ask a question, So I replaced the thermal fuse and I get the same thing,so could the motor be burned up???
Could it be a thermal cut-off?
Jennifer Braud -Not ever sure ,so I just got a new one...lol 20 years on it was nice.☮️
Thanks for the video...but do you really have to, more or less, disassemble the whole unit just to replace the stinkin' fuse?
i see why he took the dryer drum out. Its a pain in the A** to get that part out. but its doable with patience
Can someone be sure it's the thermal fuse that's causing the dryer not to heat before doing the entire disassembly and reassembly?
Hi Van. Here's a list of some of the parts that could be causing your dryer not to heat:
www.fix.com/repair/appliance/dryer/no-heat-or-not-enough-heat/
I hope this helps you with your repair!
Will the dryer work at all when the thermal fuse is bad? I have the same dryer and it works sometimes and cuts off others.
Replaced everything including the motherboard and still shuts down sometimes.
What's a thermister
Thanks for the question. A thermistor is designed to prevent the oven from overheating. We hope this helps with your repair!
Today we'll teach you how to change your car's thermostat. To start, let's remove all 4 tires...
@5:22 that is the thermal fuse not thermistor~
How is this an EASY job?
If he can do it so can I.....
Appreciate the video. Just a comment on the engineering done for the fuse placement. Deconstruction to replace a fuse? Really? Either the engineers were incredibly bad or they were sneakily 'good' (ie, get more product sold vs an easy fuse fix). Either way - very poor design.
Lol that's $500 labor for a 20 minute job. But good to see how pros do it , thanks
Nothing like a " Fuse Access Panel" huh?
Whoever designed this fuse access needs a sharp kick in the shin.
If they're still alive.
lmfao..you don't need to take all of that apart
Why in the world would they put the thermal fuse there if it is common to go out?! Lol
of course my girlffriend would happen to have the most annoying dryer to get to a thermal fuse
But of course.
I’m trying to save money but this is...a....lot
The newer Kenmores have the fuse on the back...easy changeout. This older design is moronic. Might as well get a new belt with this design.
Halfway through I forgot why I came here.
I just did all this crap and it wasn't there but it was also my fault because my dryer was a little different so if yours isn't exactly like this don't do it and also my shit was easy just take off the back aluminum shit it will be right by the thing that blows the hot air out it's easy . I took the whole shit apart for nothing . My dryer is Kenmore but not a two piece door it's a one piece hope this save you some time
Abram Porras lmao Fukin pendejo shit
Are you kidding me???? Every other manufacturer puts it right on the other side of the rear panel... You take off four screws and there it is. Reason enough to never buy a Kenmore again!
**** ETA- actually, you just replaced the thermistor which is not the same as a thermal fuse... You might want to make that clear for people that aren't aware of that. The thermal fuse should be located right on the other side of the back panel.
Power cord joke
What a load of crap! What if you are not sure it is the thermal fuse? Could be the heating element, right? What the video should have shown first is where to access these wires in the upper panel in order to put an Ohmmeter on them and check the fuse without doing all that disassembly. If I go into the dryer and find out it isn't the fuse, I'm gonna be torqued!!
The video wasn't titled, "How to fix your dryer" or even, "How to figure out why your dryer is broken"... It was titled, "How to install a thermal fuse in your Kenmore dryer"- which is exactly what he showed you. If you're not sure it's the thermal fuse, that's your fault, not the maker of the video..
