RIP Sasamori Soke. Condolences to his family and to the students of Ono Ha Itto Ryu
I just started taking this style, thanks much for posting this one!
Excellently done!! I would love to study with these Masters at their dojo!!
anjodaza to the maximum level, I'm really impressed watching this and I can't wait for next saturday when I have the occasion to try this
so clean and simple, I've never seen any ma like this before.
lol, the padded gloves look like hellboy's big hand! Thanks for uploading this video- I never get tired of seeing koryu kenjutsu styles!
Great, fantastic!!
Ce style est vraiment d'une grande pureté pour avoir eu la chance de pratiquer au Japon, au dojo de Sasamori Takemi Sensei et de l'avoir rencontrer.
C'est dommage que ce style n'est pas pratiquer beaucoup en France.
So cool.
Sensacional!
In The Daito-ryu we practise ono ha itto ryu ,very good sword fighting ,one cut !
Kawakami sensei kicks big time ass! I saw him perform and hold a lesson, he is out of this world
i can definetely see how this form of kenjutsu really contributed to kendo...
Is just me or does their tsuka look longer and thicker than most other schools?
@jung567 Sasamori Soke and Hirata Sensei visited San Diego this past weekend.
wow, what an embu.
anyone know where i can learn this style of itto ryu in California?
There are several more high-paced ryu too :)
If you havent, check out katori shinto ryu for instance.
I hope i can to be a student at ono ha itto ryu. But iam in indonesia east java..
@jung567
The other style is (influance on kendo) Kashima Shinden Jikishin Kage-ryu Kenjutsu
@Johnjohnsm If your interested in writing an article about it, mail to taylor@kendo-world(dot)com for more information.
wat other kenjutsus had most influence on kendo?
@sexvamp666 It depends on the school. Some have chapters all over the world, others stay close to home.
@DreamofEmese how?
@AsturiasGuitar
how so?
Agreed 100%....
Ceremony? Ono Ha Itto Ryu practitioners are human lawn mowers. They practice dueling to a fine art.
We practice a few Ono Ha Itto Ryu techniques in my art. It's mean stuff.
What you see is for demos only. What you don't see is the real stuff. It's the same reason why Navy Seals don't teach all that they know to other countries. What you understand you can know, what you know you can defeat.
Never bash another art. It is not the art that makes a fighter. It's his knowledge of the art.
Katana's were made much like missiles, their power was in first strike capability. Missiles weren't made to fire back and fourth first one to launch wins. although you see it in anime and maybe old Japanese samurai movies blocking with the katana was much less common than striking because essentially the first one to land a deadly hit wins thus moves are slow and well thought out. That's how I understand it anyway I don't go to any fancy schools I just own a katana.
@blugularis where did u take it?
@jung567
In my personal opinion Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, Shinto Ryu, and Niten Ichi Ryu.
Is this the style that's origins kendo?
We're I can find material about the different styles that modern kendo is influenced/based?
Thank you in advance
Welp main influance of how kendo looks is other lineage of itto ryu Hokushin Itto ryu hyoho, also kendo was mainly created by gekkiken culture
@sexvamp666 trust me I practice this in Italy and Sasamori Takemi sama is going to hold a stage on June the second 2011
@ireneaikidokeiko darn...
when i compare this branch of itto ryu to mizoguchi... it seems... that mizoguchi is really smooth (really noticeable), while ono is how should i say this... thorough? It's my opinion sorry...
how come they dont kiai
Domo!
Who's the other one? Irata sensei?
I'm confused. Isn't Itto-Ryu the style that attacks from sheath position? Where in any of this do they apply that?
I believe that is called iaijutsu
rakuen:Callisto! That is Iaijutsu or batto-jutsu. Itto ryu means you are weilding the sword with your 2 hands. Nitto is with one hand and nitten is weilding 2 swords with each hand
Smooth Criminal no, none of that is correct.
At first, the padding and wooden swords didn't concern me. But then, those two later come out with what looked like shiny, black wood, and I was thinking "What's with the black wood?" And then they unsheathed their swords and I was like "Oh shit!"
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache ur a weeb m8
Caleb Javier I can appreciate a sword. Swords are always cool.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache but ur still a w33b
Caleb Javier A "w-three-three-b"? I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with this term.
A boken would hurt tremendously if you got hit by it. Could even break bone.
here i thought kendo kata was difficult now i see kenjutsu is more harder...
1) As far is I know, you can not "learn" the ryu, but only "practice" in groups.
Because the only person who teaches is the Soke himself. Worldwide.
And he lives in Tokio, teaching in a church...
My Sensei told me this on my first day, "we're only practicing, i don't teach!"....he said.
2) Those Onigote are so horrible to use, so stiff, so unflexible (when new) and so heavy.^
Itto Ryu is much more fun, when you're Shidachi,...^^
Honestly I don't know....good question though.
as far as i know, real kobudo martial arts styles r only taught in japan
Demonstration needs kiai! Kinda weird and sterile without.
@Simosayo- Katana are very much used to block and there are many techniques to do so. Several are seen in this video.
No, it doesn't. It's not some pretentious joke of a sword fight like kendo.
And yeah, necro post, whatever.
It's got nothing to do with Kendo. In kendo they may be forced by the rules to call where they attack, but all Kenjutsu schools I've seen so far, also use kiai as part of the kata. A nice kiai can intimidate your opponent and give you that little edge you may need.
It has a lot to do with Kendo since it is its prime ancestor. Well. here's Ono ha itto ryu, kenjutsu where kiai is not used.
It may if an opponent is not a good fighter; or you yourself aren't one.
@zompus EEEEEHHHH!! NOOOOOOOO!! DXXX
pero resulta que llegaron los españoles y portugueses y vencieron las espadas samurai en combate cuerpo a cuerpo....
