    In our Kenjutsu school there is a very big emphasis on drawing the sword as well as fighting with it. So there is a big ia component to it.

    The most popular Katana state I believe is here in Florida. Very difficult to locate & be trained in person over here. Thank you for video!

    Differentiation between of ken-jutsu and laido is easy.
    Laijutsu vs laido is what i am interested in.
    Or batto-justsu vs batto-do

    always insight full thank you Sensi Norcross for your informative videos. Question Bushido and Kabudo the school I believe called Asayama ichidenkai Ryu, are you familiar with its master swordsman and his teaching? any comments on that approach to the Katana? I appreciate any of your thoughts as I am often conflicted about what to study. I am now 70 years old and practicing Iadio the benefits are immeasurable for me it's no so much about perfect form or achieving a rank but the daily solitary movements and adding a mix of Katas from many different schools many I have learned from your videos and just being in the moment has made a difference in my day to day life. I love just moving the sword through thin air and hope one day to be able to cut bamboo with true spirit. all the best

      Hi. Yes. I love Seki Sensei and the Asayama Ichidenkai Ryu approach. It is very realistic; unlike many in Japan that I have seen. It is a very comprehensive martial art, with over 200 kata. So happy you are 70 and still training. Keep inspiring us by never stopping. It is never too early or too late to practice Budo. Keep going!

    Hi Mr Norcross, I was very lucky to come across three schools of swordsmanship. Started with Muso Jikiden Enshin Ryu. I started there because I thought if if I wanted to learn swordsmanship I would need to feel tel the weight and balance of of the sword by holding a sword. My next tradition and is my primary tradition is Katori Shinto Ryu which as you know still is one of the few koryu schools that teach both kenjutsu and iaijutsu. I love the the combative strategies of of kenjutsu but partners are difficult to find. I still love iaijutsu for similar reasons as you. I practice my kenjutsu by myself the same way we train in karate and Yamane Ryu Kobudo kata. So I train both my primary teachers are my karate senseis who learnt Katori Shinto Ryu from Hanshi McCarthy who studied under Sugino Sensei.

    Iaijutsu is a compliment to Kenjutsu. Iaido is a completely different thing and has little to do with Kenjutsu as the focus is on aesthetics and not combat intent. Not wrong, just different. The fundamentals and methods are also very different. Iaido is more on line with kendo.

      Seek out local schools and try out a free class or two and then decide. All arts have value. It is more about the quality of the teachers and applicable curriculum. Good luck!!

    So then whats the difference between iado and battojutsu?

    • @jjs3890
      @jjs3890 Год назад

      Battojutsu and iaijutsu share much more in common than Iaido. Basically it comes down to the techniques. Iaido is a completely ldifferent thing. In Iaijutsu/ battojutsu draw the sword with the wakizashi in mind and because of this the draws tend to be faster. In Iaido there is not short sword so it doesn’t get in the way. Iaido also faces the opponent with every cut. In Iaijutsu you sometimes cut without facing the opponent and occasionally use the handle, hand guard and scabbard as weapons too.

    Am not sure i have hard time with the amount of ceremony in iai but kenjutsu has its issue to with people be so overly argumentative in my experience both all 3 im not a big sword guy anyway lol

    Personally i would not seperate iaijutsu and kenjutsu. iaijutsu teach atack and defend from the draw, the goal is still kill or incapacitate the opponent with your sword, and that is also the goal when the sword is out. Batto/iaijutsu is a part of kenjutsu in my opinion
