Glady Benley's story was so sad. She couldn't be herself, but I am glad people recognize her now. She paved the way for many lesbian artist and Peppermint was right there's nothing wrong with female doing drag
I appreciate that this is the 1st coverage I've seen of Lesbian icons where the narrator isn't *pushing* the notion that she was "Trans" [it's a growing trend to do so in the Rainbow community]. Even the story of Black Lesbian Storme DeLarverie of Stonewall Riots has been covered & replaced with.. Marsha P. Johnson. Agreeably, we can all find inspiration from others stories without "Trans-ing" or altering their self-Identification to suit modern "nuanced" narratives.
Outside of Marsha P. Johnson, which is more of an issue with queer history being less accessible than the history you’d see in a classroom and the situation already being chaotic, I’ve seen more people complaining about the supposed "transing" of historical figures than people wrongfully being called trans. Nothing worse than presuming Sappho was exclusively a lesbian even though we don’t know that for certain and yes I’m a lesbian, no I’m not a trans woman (ik your type lol). So it seems more like trans panic to me, unsurprising since you’re pretty open about being a terf.
@@Peppers_Meatloaf Agreed, unless maybe as a guest judge, and I don't think kings should be competing with queens either. No co-ed drag competitions! Lol. Jk
Love and appreciate that Kings are also being discussed in this series!!
Love love love this! Thank you Peppermint for doing this type of video. I love history and learned so much about Gladys' life.
Brilliant! Thanks so much. I'm just becoming familiar with Gladys Bentley and this was a great crash course! Thx, Peppermint!
Thank you for a wonderful program!

When will RPDR include drag kings?!? Season 15, or season 50?!?
Probably never. I'd love to see a spin off with kings tho. When I did drag as a Queen in the 2000s, there were a couple King troupes I worked with.
They shouldn’t be on the same show. A drag queen should not be judging a drag king
