I've been rewatching season 1 of Annika on PBS. Each episode references a work of classic literature, and epi. 1 was Moby Dick - thought of you! All the Light We Cannot See is an outstanding book - highly recommend.

You know, I love these book episodes. Thank you for making them. Herriott’s books: NO SERIES can compare to the books. Both series are excellent, but the books are magic. They are old friends of mine; I probably have first editions, with pages falling out of the binding. There’s no book like an old book, and if I can buy a used one, I am giving a book a home. Coincidentally, I had toyed with the idea of listening to Nicholas Ralph’s recording - he narrated all the Herriot books for Audible. Also - please check out Leslie Booth’s lovely, vintage knitting pattern modeled on the modern series scarf knitted by Herriot’s mum. It’s on Ravelry and is called “All Creatures Great and Small.” This was my first foray into knitting colorwork with J&S and oh my goodness. I fell in love. It is a work of art and I love my scarf so much.
This is great! I just discovered Harmony Reads when looking for the "regular" Fleece and Harmony podcast. I watch and listen as I quilt. My book club just reviewed The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Flanagan. We all recommend it (not a usual thing to get a group of ladies to agree on something like this! lol) Reading/knitting/quilting...some of life's best gifts! 😊
The Yorkshire Dales are surprisingly still the same as James Herriot describes his beloved Dales. I’ve vacationed there (from Ontario) 9 times, never disappointed. ❤
My husband who is not a reader has been reading James Herriot; we plan to listen to All Things Wise and Wonderful on a road trip tomorrow. He likes that each chapter is basically a short story. I've read All Creatures Great and Small soooo many times. The chapter where Herriot gets called out to a poverty stricken dwelling where an elderly man lives with his only companion- his also elderly dog causes me to ugly cry EVERY TIME I read it.
Can’t wait till you finish ‘Moby Dick’, Kim. I read it awhile back and can’t recall how it ended very clearly! Just reserved ‘The Spoon Stealer’ at my library. I’ve been wanting to reread the James Herriot books but I’m struggling with first-time reads let alone a second read! 😊

I so appreciate your recommendation of Annabel. It's not a book I would have ever read, but I'm so glad I did. So much to think about and to develop empathy for people who have a different life than yours. I have read very few books by Canadian authors, so I love getting new ideas.

Mastery is an excellent book! So good and recommended to student musicians as past of their practice. Worth reading for anyone looking to become more proficient in anything they are doing.

I recently finished the final book in The Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley. I enjoyed the series, and the final book, Atlas, The Story of Pa Salt, was so finely crafted.
I really love Harmony Reads. I'm reading Annabel now, I'm about 70% through the book. I can't help but recommend the series of books by Ken Follett starting with Pillars of the Earth.
I have enjoyed both the original and the new version of All Creatures Great and Small....and my husband actually watches it with me. I do have to say the knitwear/wardrobe is captivating. I have the book set aside for a future read but now will have to look at the list of other books James Harriot wrote....I hadn't realized he was such a prolific writer. I can't believe it just dawned on me when Kim said lightening rod....eureka...I kept thinking I'd read Moby Dick and how could I not remember a whole chapter on 'white' but alas I read The Old Man and the Sea...I guess I got caught up with the whole whale subject. Thanks for the lightening bolt...lol.
Good for you Simone in 1995 while living in England: my mother in law and sister in law came for a visit and we drove the Harriet trail, it was fabulous ❤️

You ladies should read Canadian Alan Bradley”s “ Sweetness at the bottom of the pie”. It’s the first book of the Flavia de Luce series. I also am into Victoria Goddard, ( another Canadian author) Greenwing and Dart series.
I had to laugh when you raled about Kirby. The first real fight my husband and I had was because I came home from a meeting and he was reading my book! We agreed that we would never do it again.

yes!! I read All the light we can not see 2 years ago and love it. The series in Netflix was good, but like crumbs compared to the book
