Makes the recorded version sound so-so, doesn't it? EVERYBODY loves his drum solo on this song...but this live version takes it up at least 10 levels!

Phil played all instruments
There was a time in history when all music was like this. Musicians played real instruments, sang songs with their real voice and performed with heart and soul.
Phil Collins is one of three artists that has sold over 100 million albums solo and in a group. The other two artists is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.
Phil was also a great producer for Eric Clapton, Robert Plant (from Led Zeppelin), Frida (from Abba), Philip Bailey (from Earth Wind and Fire) and a few other. Phil starred in the movie Buster, did a appearence on tv-show Miami Vice and was also in the jazz fusion band Brand X from 1976 beside his other little band Genesis...
Probably the hardest working musician ever!
You should check out the Philip Bailey song Easy Lover which Phil Collins produced and played drums on and co-wrote this duet with Bailey and basist Nathan East. It's a banger!

Phil started out at 19 in 1970 as the drummer for Genesis, becoming the lead singer in 1976. He started his solo career in 1981 with this song. While still with Genesis until the mid nineties. Then joined them for a tour in 2007 and is now on tour with them again.

Not strictly true, he started his musical career (as opposed to his modeling & acting career) in a band called Flaming Youth prior to Genesis.

I think Genesis did a fantastic job when they choose Collins to take over for Gabriel which I think Collins is a lot better singer than Gabriel any day sorry no offense Gabriel fans. Gabriel was never ever this passionate about his performances but Collins has always been passionate and didn't have dress up in costumes to prove he was good. Air to night is so good live but Collins is unbelievable live and I haven't heard any performance sound so good live and I think this is the best performance seen live. I'm a bit late getting to this, have tons of subscriptions to monitor. New subscriber too. Great reaction. Anyway, no body can do this song like Phil, has life experience behind him to put the emotion into it. But, of any covers I have heard, this one in my opinion comes the closest. Take Daughtry, a former American Idol contestant, and add Brad Arnold from Three Doors Down, and with their vocals, especially Daughtry's unique sound, and an amazing cover of this song.
