Last year I testrode the 1190 Adv and the 1290SuperDuke R, And I was surprised by it so much, I went in thinking it would be a good warmup to the 1290 and I was blown away, Its a great bike, Handles good and is comfy, It even had a Akra can on which sounded very fruity, From what I remember, the 1190 isnt reallly much heavier at all than the 1050 but has some very fancy additions.
I heard hearsay that these were actually electronically/mechanically (uncertain which it was, it was a passing conversation) detuned. Nothing incredibly out of this world, but enough to make them less... testy. And now, having heard RJ say that it's an entry level bike, it sort of makes sense.
I think I would like the "small bike" comparison too, when off road and that engine size would seem to be a sweet spot for the majority of avg Riders. Good share RJ! Have a Nice Weekend

oh yes the differences to the 1290 models would be very interesting to feel indeed I guess. But I haven't been on any Adventure KTM so far unfortunately. And after testing out the big GS and the Multistrada many people told me the KTM Adventure would actually be the touring enduro which would suit my riding style (quick-ish) best. Was this short ride enough for you to confirm this? Does it feel sportier than the GS?
Would you recomend it as a second bike for a low-mid experienced rider? I heard that it has that ktm nervous engine character. I'm tall enough, 6'1", and feel too tight on my yamaha mt 03 660 (old one) Cheers 🤗

Finally you get to ride a KTM adventure, try the 1190 Adventure or the coming 1290 adventure r and you will see why KTM is based on performance. I have a 2015 Adventure and my cousins has a 2016 BMW GS 1200, to be honest I love the 1190 motor and looks way over the GS, plus it sounds better, revs harder and it performs amazing on and off road. But then again that's just my opinion, some people think differently. I'm getting the new 1290r Superduke to have the best of both worlds, one adventure and one supermoto in my garage. RJ, you should know, you have a 1290 duke for a reason

Well he wears Rukka all over the place. Kind of Päijänne, gloves are Virium or in this video Lobster. Schuberth helmets, Boots I dont know. I wear Rukka too. They are great but very expensive. The good thing is you have 5 years warranty and they last at least for 10 years of much riding, the quality is that good. As a starter you should buy cheap clothes, maybe 2nd hand, and learn from it. See what do you really want from your clothes, how many bags do you want, how many air ventilation zippers, water proof, how warm / cold, protection etc. Maybe you only need summer clothes, maybe you want to ride in < 10 °C conditions, then you need winter clothes. You will see if you start to ride. And to be honest, yust look around for some tests, eg in some motorcycle magazines. Then go to some vendors, look at the clothes, try them... and maybe wait for some deals :) Happy riding!
RJ, do you often wear ear plugs or hearing protection on your daily commutes? The Husqvarna is incredibly loud from the videos I've seen and peoples reactions, how is your hearing?

i own a 1050 it is a great bike! like you I didnt like the screen because whatever position i put it in, it created such violent trubulences that my helmet vibrated and i wasnt even able to see something. But now that i put the @R screen on the problem is completely solved and i love the bike! I mostly ride with a supermoto group (very fast + skilled group) and the bike is so nimble that i can keep up with them without breaking a sweat. you can lean it and lean it and the only limit of the bike is the scraping center stand(optional) which actually is a good thing, because if i would lean it more i'd probably fall as the tires would lose traction:) All in all it is an amazing bike and if u can grab one for 9000 euros it is unbeatable in its price class !( i did)

the 1050 is identical with the 1090 s . there is a 1090 r with a 21 inch front wheel, but this wheel creates a bigger giroscopic effect which slows handling down. if you want to do touring and want to keept 90% of your riding on the street go with the 1090 s it is a awesome bike for the streets and it didnt disappoint through my 3000km alp trip this summer with 30 kg of luggage on the back. I can highly recommend this bike for the street it is immensely fun and capable and youll surprise some people with the pace that you are able to ride on this thing.
Wojtek W. well it depends on how you ride. when you drive on the motorway with a very careful throttle hand in street mode you can achieve an average consumption of up to 3.6 L/100km (avg speed 120 kph) when you drive normally on somewhat twisty roads average consumption lies arohnd 5l/100km (lots of factors that make this number differ) when you go mental and ride it like a maniac , average consumtion lies around 6L/100km.

Other people do better more in depth bike reviews that actually do it for a living, i suggest looking around and finding them instead of asking RJ. I went through a stage where i wanted to upgrade but couldn't afford to and i looked up a lot every small sized bike, 125-400cc between the 2-10k range and once you find the bike its easy to search for reviews and i suggest watching a couple for the same bike to get a idea of what multiple people think, then if possible look at and test the bike yourself. Though if you ask me out of all my research i thought the BMW G310 was one of the better bikes on my list. Check it out.

Rode one of these a few months back at the same time that I had an aprilia tuono(vtwin model) and was really impressed with it, smooth torque.
i have one of these and a 690. its really practical. until 6000 rpm the engine performs the same as an 1190 which is pretty cool
