I can't even fathom what horrors Philomela had to go through during her traumatic childhood to reach that breaking point.😢😔 Nobody can take abuse forever, so her finally snapping is not surprising.
The fact that she was so strong and put on a brave face up till now, really says a lot about how bad it must’ve been.
You cannot endlessly suppress your emotions. Inevitably they will overflow and abused person will lash out. Philomela is such a tragic character. I feel so sorry for her.
If I can say, the Sargent girl kinda owns her family Right? Doesn't that make them complacent in the abuse?
Bro everyone in this story is a trauma patient. It's getting repetitive. If that's the extend of the Writers capabilities, than there's barely any reason to continue the Story. Because we know how it plays out.
If there is one thing to fear, and that’s when someone full of bottled up emotions finally snaps because once it happens it ain’t pretty deserved or not.
The emotions released in moments like that are not ones we have words to describe, only approximations
Now, the question is; Did her hellspawn of a grandmother order her to take the book or Philomela did so herself in hopes of ressurecting her parents and finally live happily again? Then again, it could easily be both. Seriously one of the most broken anime girls I've seen, having to endure hell because her grandmother blamed her for her father's death.
Ironically its at times like this where your family is most needed, Rian has my respect for trying to level with his cousin on an emotional level, but timing was just to unfortunate

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. But yeah I feel really bad for Philomela, hopefully someone cane help her. Also did anyone else think that the way Veronica was knocking was super creepy? Like she just kept going with NO variation in the way she knocked, how she called Philomela's name, the timing between knocks. It was like a broken record it was super creepy!
I think that was just a reflection of Philomela's state of mind. That's why it sounded as a loop, putting pressure on her mind
Poor girl, her sanity and humanity are fragile.

I feel bad for her familiar. I can't spell her name. What she did to her was sad. Also I think it's cute when Chise sees Elias talking to her and wonders what they're talking about. Slightly jealous? 😊 also what is happening in the opening song. It looks like Elias using the kids like puppets. Is Chise going to leave him again but come back in the next season because as different as they are, she does fall in love with him. And definitely loves her.

though to call it a curse is doing injustices as I believe it to be a fallen one, born long before even the neighbours came into being

What was the trigger? Chise and everybody wanted to give her space. but approaching her just makes it worse. I blame Rian for yelling at her. that's where it went all wrong
i would assume the trigger was Veronica but it was all bottled up+the forbidden book could've been a catalyst

Rian was angry at her for not giving herself enough credit , it's hard to see your family self deprecate themselves especially your blood relatives , Rian is going through a trial and error phase on how to be more open and delicate with people,and he's been making multiple efforts to talk to his cousin and check on her , most people wouldn't keep trying, he has my respect

I’m not sure what Veronica did to her because I’m a few episodes behind, but I was hoping that she would stand up to them rather than snapping.
Frankly not sure either. From Veronica’s point of view she helped Philomela from being in an even worse place. Which frankly might not be wrong. I can see Philomela probably having snapped faster if she’d been allowed near her grandmother all the time given what else we saw in the episode. Since she was obligated to be with Veronica, it may have slowed some of it. It did allow her to be at the school which the grandmother stated she never wanted to send her to. Probably she knew Veronica was trying to shield her to a degree by bringing her into her cage instead of the grandmothers. But knew she also couldn’t fully actually protect her and resented her for that.
spoilers but
in the newest chapter it is implied that Veronica is not as innocent as she’s depicted to be. She’s probably one of the main antagonists in season 3

Veronica is even creepier in this scene.
As someone else pointed out, it could be a reflection of how Phil(can’t spell the rest of her name) perceived Veronica at this point in time.
