Been a fan of POD since nearly the beginning, and I've had the pleasure of seeing them 3 times: once in '97 at a festival, shortly before they released Southtown and right before that blew up, and then again on the Circles tour in 2018.
I’ve seen them twice. First time was in Plano Texas with Flyleaf & Staind. The second was in Belton Texas with Three Days Grace & Shinedown. Craving to see them again!
Dude no way. That was my very first concert I attended. Linkin Park was the headliner, but it was those 3 that were part of the tour. I saw them at Cleveland Agora. I remember when they left the stage and then came back to sing a few "encores" and then ended up singing like an hour to an hour and a half longer. Such an iconic show. I will never forget it
At a Christian music festival in the late 90s in Colorado I first heard them play and Sonny gave his testimony and I was moved and related to him the following day I ran into him on the grounds and I talked with him about how I had also recently lost my mother from cancer, he was so sweet and gave me encouraging scripture of comfort. I’ll always have a heart for him as he was so sincere and authentic
I'll never forget this. While I would get ready for work, I would turn on MTV. That morning, I was watching the video Alive and then an emergency interruption glared across the screen. At that moment, I changed the channel to the news and there it was, unfolding right on my screen. I always attributed my memory of watching that video, in the morning, right as I saw the news. And every time I hear Alive, it takes me right back to that moment in my lving room.
I’ve loved this band for 25 years. They have never let up and have always stayed true to themselves and to Christ. Sonny is the real deal and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
An underrated song “Will You” got me through my parents divorcing when I was kid. Now that I think about it: I had to get through something some other people started . 😢
Sonny is an amazing human being. His interview with Finn Mckenty is the best podcast interview with a musician that I’ve ever heard. Honesty, and full of integrity. I have so much respect for that guy.
Met POD at American Village Starbucks in Chatan, Okinawa Japan in 2014. They had come to Okinawa to play a show on Marine Corps Base Camp Hansen. They were really nice guys, and very approachable. I had recently broken my leg in a motorcycle crash, and they offered to pray for my continued healing, over my new motorcycle (a 2004 GSXR 1000) which I had sitting right outside the Starbucks door.
@rnrtruestories Loved it, brother. Spent 4 years there and would move back in a heartbeat if I could. Best motorcycle riding I've ever done was there and the people/culture there are awesome. On a musical note I also saw Eve 6 there, on Camp Schwab in 2014.
When it comes to Christian Nu-Metal, they were huge and probably the only act I knew of that fit that loose definition... not only did they get huge because of "Alive" and other songs from their album Satellite... but they were on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack "Sleeping Awake"... the song randomly pops in my head from time to time
1) I’ve always been really tapped into my spiritual self; and Youth of A Nation, and Alive, were really pivotal in my journey as a professional musician/artist, and my mental health journey. It wasn’t until many years after I first heard P.O.D. did i realize (or I found out somehow) they there Christian. I’m of the “if it’s good, it’s good” class, so all good, since they were speaking positivity into me. 2) You mentioned Hoobastank, and it made me remember that I once was background in one of their videos. I had to go figure out which one; and fittingly, it’s Remember Me. I just watched that video for the first time since we filmed it and I commented on Hoobastank’s video. They were incredibly nice to us as we filmed on a field as it got pretty cold at night. I still have the T-shirt they were kind enough to sign for me, as well. I’m 40 now and that must have been at least 15-20 years ago. Thanks for sparking a positive memory. 3) I enjoy your content. Can’t watch all the time because I have a full schedule as a professional DJ and mom of an elementary school kid (and I’m on the volunteer Parent executive team lol)… but, Everytime I watch, I am more of a fan. Peace to you!
Sonny is a great god fearing man. He sat with me and couple friends at a picnic table outside of there tour bus. He truly wanted to know our testimony. The whole band was awesome. Seen them multiple times in different states. Always wanted to know how I was doing every time I seen him. Love all these band members.
One of the best rock live shows I’ve ever seen. Sonny is one of the best front men in the game, so much passion and energy on stage. Seen them 3 times around San Diego and can’t wait to see them again.
Always been a HUGE POD fan since several years before they became huge. I remember after "The Fundamental Elements..." and the explosion with MTV TRL they decided to re-release Brown and so they assembled a street team to get the word out. I was on that stream team and passed out book marks and posters and stuff all around my town & college campus. Love these dudes still!
Love the walk down memory lane man, excellent recap! I'm a lifelong POD fan, they're my all time #1 band. Love these guys and have seen them live close to 20 times. Their live shows are 2nd to none whether there's 10 people in the crowd or 10K! So thankful they've stayed true to themselves while expanding their music library & sound. Sonny is a stellar dude! Jah Warriors ride on!!
No christian should judge another christian like that. God uses music to reach the ones he wants to reach. Some people will never listen to certain music. So it has to be the type of music they enjoy. I think a lot of christians forget that. I am a Christian. I am sixty eight years old and my kids love p o d and so does my granddaughter. I used to buy them all kinds of music that they could relate to from the Christian bookstore. They loved it. They drew closer to God. My son and I agree. Those were the greatest memories. Those days of listening to POD and others and being able to feel closer to God. ❤❤🕊🕊🙏🙏👍👍
I saw P.O.D. open the show for 3 Days Grace & Shinedown maybe 6 years ago, and they completely stole the show. Not a huge fan of any of those 3 going in, but left with big respect for P.O.D. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I just had my 20 year highschool reunion.. and having been married 10 years I was looking through my yearbook and I remembered I had this unrequited crush my graduating year and as a result at that time I was rejected by almost everyone I knew because that was pretty shameful 2004. Anyways a few people signed my year book. My sister, cousin, a couple random people that asked me.. And then I opened a spread and there is the entire band of POD and Blindside. Totally forgot.. lol cheered me right up. Still listening to POD. Hitting hard the newest album at the gym.
Saw POD live at the "Jager Stage" while at Rock On The Range in Columbus OH in 2010. They were so good! It made me sad they didnt get booked on a bigger stage at that festival. I still rock "Alive" and "Boom" during workouts! Just listened to them the other day while lifting weights. Highly recommended during exercising. BOOM!
One of the most important bands to me, and as a drummer, no one has influenced me more than Wuv did back in the early 2000's when i was really get into drumming in bands.
I was a senior in high school when Alive and Youth of the nation released. It was a weird time for us being so close to graduation and it feeling bittersweet post 9/11 and to top it off one of my classmates died a week prior to our ceremony on a motorcycle crash. Her mother gave an unforgettable emotional speech. Not a dry eye in the crowd. They saved her seat among all her classmates and in her seat was a bouquet of flowers. P.O.D's music was a big influence on many people around my age and I get to see them tomorrow at Rockville. Thanks for giving me some insight into their history.
The Southtown record was the first rock album I ever got into as a kid. It was life-altering . It opened the door for me to get into all kinds of rock and heavy music.
I’ve seen them live in a small Bar in Los Angeles a few years back and it was an amazing show .. you know when you see someone doing something they were put in this world to do.. such a great talented band.. easily in my top 3 maybe tied for best show I’ve ever seen wit Iron Maiden.. I’m not saying their music is at the same level but their raw intensity live is fucken crazy❤
Great video, thank you! I was an old school metal head, growing up..listening too groups Metallica, Judas Priest, Kiss, Scorpion’s, old Def Leopard, Ted Nugent, ect. I literally put my mom through hell. My first concert was Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osborne when I was 13..in 1980. Starting my use of alcohol and drugs. Musically I moved on too the grunge scene and the Nu Metal in the 90’s… POD, Nirvana, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains…. I remember when Brian Head Welch left Korn and formed the band Love and Death, a Christian Metal Band that was pretty decent. I saw a documentary about the Korn reunion, BHW and Fieldy did the same thing, (after they reunited with KORN), that POD did, talking to their fans about their relationship with God, personally sharing their walk with God, also being recovering addicts themselves and praying with them. I think as we all have aged, and we reflect, God SAVED a lot of us from the STUPID and RECKLESS stuff some of us did. I know I should’ve been dead! I give all the GLORY TO GOD & JESUS CHRIST! Sorry for the rant, LOTS of memories and SO GRATEFUL FOR GRACE! ✌🏽
I saw them play direct support for Jinjer when they were on tour, and to be honest, I didnt expect much from them when i first saw the bill. However, they came out and absolutely killed it, and put on what myself, and my close friend felt to be the best performance of the night. They are super nice guys, and really put on a good show.
I went to Santana when those shootings happened. Lived in Santee, El cajon, La Mesa growing up and loved this band. Still playing it often. Reminds me of old times growing up. What an awesome job on all the data you compiled for this video. You're DAMN good at it! Liked and commented for the algorithm.
Seeing P.O.D. at the Machine Shop is one of my all-time favorite shows. Sonny hanging from the rafters while singing, the energy of the crowd, hearing hit song after hit song, just incredible.
I remember being at that show in Walled Lake where I’m from. I also ran into them at that Denny’s after and they signed my shirt that I had on that I still have. They are an awesome group of guys and I loved seeing their success after. I’ve been fortunate to see other groups rise from the bottom in and out of the Christian music world. Michigan has always been a popular stop for smaller bands.
I’m just commenting again because YT sucks at sending notifications and I’m still wondering where 1,000 people would gather for a show in WL. Not saying it didn’t happen! Genuinely curious
Have not seen it mentioned as well, so I will throw this out there. They made song the Theme Song for Rey Mysterio in the WWE. He is also from San Diego and they got to play it live at Wrestlemania!
I've always liked their music. I didn't like Sonny for a long time because the way he interracted with fans sometimes but this was nearly 15 years ago. I get he and the band as a whole were constantly being judged because they didnt' fit whatever mold "Christianity" was supposed to be according to people. I think back then, he had a chip on his shoulder after a while and actually, i didn't realize to what extent they were being targeted. After seeing this video, it makes more sense. When he decided to take a break was about that time that I'm referring to. I was in my mid 20's and I'm in my mid 40's now. I like their music and I probably always will. :)
At least POD made one of the best wrestling themes of all-time. Shout out to WWE Hall of Famer, Rey Mysterio, who's still performing today (even though Rey's injured).
When I first heard P.O.D., I never knew they were a "Christian" band. When I did find out, it didn't change my view on them since I consider myself a Christian (though I'm not generally a fan of Christian media). P.O.D. is very underappreciated. I consider Snuff The Punk to be the first nu metal album, considering it pre-dated Korn's debut by a few months. Their interaction with fans are GOATed. Right here on RUclips, if you go to a fan upload of their song "Alive", P.O.D. commented under the video. Most other artists would be quick to copyright strike these kinds uploads, so that's really cool what they did.
I saw them live before I had just heard their name a few weeks earlier . They played with Chimera , Vision of Disorder (whom I came to see the most) and headliners Machine Head . All the bands played a tight set . If I remember correct it was at Bogarts in Cinci . But for my first experience to P.O.D. being live , and opening the show (I think?) not knowing any of their music , I remember digging ,having a good time and paying attention instead of just drinking or standing with my arms folded staring at them . Most of the crowd were into everything that night . So yeah , it was fun and they put on a good show .
Oh BOOM (The Crystal Method Remix) on Amplitude is in the intro and a blast to play! I remember hearing Alive on the radio and it strongly resonating with me at the time when I was 13 before ever I played Amplitude. I love their recent albums and am loving what they released for the new album. P.O.D. has to be one of my top 10 bands from that time. I didn't know all this and really enjoyed learning about the bands strange history that I'm not so sure if it can be said from other bands of their era.
Warrior here since 2000. I was in their Rock the party video and I seen my myself on this video as they played a clip. Lol super cool dudes, every time I see them, they engage fans in good conversations. Marcos even repost my P.O.D. related post on his IG. Great down to earth guys.
LOVE these guys!! Aside from Christianity, their solid, inclusive and loving character makes me respect the hell out of them! People like them are hard to find in the music scene
Very long, but fascinating and interesting video. Great job. I basically became very aware of POD in 2001-02 because of "Alive" and "Youth Of A Nation." I really loved both songs, especially the latter. These songs are good people. 🤘🏻🐻🤘🏻
I remember Tuesday September 11, 2001. Marked the day on my calendar in anticipation of the Satellite album release. The attacks happed that morning. I was on the west coast. I went to work but got the CD that morning. That would for ever be my soundtrack for 9/11. When remembering the events of that day I always somehow add that I was waiting to get That album on that morning. Great album and a lot of the songs expressed all the feelings I couldn’t find the words for. I wish I could thank the guys from the band for saying what I couldn’t.
I remember seeing them at the Sports Arena in SD back in the late 90s early decade. Watching their meteoric rise along with Switchfoot a true North County and South County tale. Both bands really were crucial to my development at the time and stretched my understanding/challenged and shattered the stale religious paradigm I grew up in. You could actually be a Christian outside of the Christain culture? Passion of the Christ came out around the same time both bands were pushing the envelope and really tipped over the apple cart so to speak. A big thank you to both POD and Switchfoot. Love to see them perform together at some point.
I went to a private Lutheran school for most of my elementary school days, so POD was really big with the kids who's parents wouldn't let them listen to our normal devil music rock bands. This was back in the Southtown days, but I remember the principals kid said POD was his favorite band back then, lol
I really love POD y’all are one of my favorite bands and y’all have the best songs since I was a kid! Very very inspirational and so true about what’s going on in the world. Keep up the good work y’all! Cheers from Louisiana! Shout out to all of the coasts in the United States and Mexico!

Someone sing with me... "I can still see the light at the end of the tunnel shine Through the dark times Even when I lose my mind But it feels like no one in the world is listening And I can't ever seem to make the right decisions.... I walk around in this same haze I'm still caught in my same ways I'm losing time in these strange days But somehow, I always know the right things to say I don't know what time it is Or who's the one to blame for this And I believe what I can't see And how do you know which way the wind blows Cus I can feel it all around I'm lost between the sound And just when I think I know Then she goes.... GOODBYE FOR NOW GOODBYE FOR NOW SO LONG....
Love POD since the mid 2000s. One of and still the best Christian group. Their greatest hits was my first intro to them. I need to listen to their songs a lot more again now that their new album is around the corner.

Love Project 86! Their live shows were excellent
Project 86 got a lot of play in my car back in the day lol
Dude no way. That was my very first concert I attended. Linkin Park was the headliner, but it was those 3 that were part of the tour. I saw them at Cleveland Agora. I remember when they left the stage and then came back to sing a few "encores" and then ended up singing like an hour to an hour and a half longer. Such an iconic show. I will never forget it
Little Green Men
I grew up on pod. I still love their music.
What moment?
@@DiggingDeepVlogPODs first main stream album was released on 9/11/01
I’ve loved this band for 25 years.
My first introduction to POD was the album Satellite back in 2001. I still listen to it today
I remember hearing southtown for the first time on the radio. I imiediatley laced up and walked 2 miles to the mall and bought their cd.
I love your channel brother. Thanks for all the hard work.
Maybe look into doing a deep dive into the band Flyleaf
Met POD at American Village Starbucks in Chatan, Okinawa Japan in 2014. They had come to Okinawa to play a show on Marine Corps Base Camp Hansen.
They were really nice guys, and very approachable. I had recently broken my leg in a motorcycle crash, and they offered to pray for my continued healing, over my new motorcycle (a 2004 GSXR 1000) which I had sitting right outside the Starbucks door.
how did you like living in Japan?
@rnrtruestories Loved it, brother. Spent 4 years there and would move back in a heartbeat if I could. Best motorcycle riding I've ever done was there and the people/culture there are awesome.
On a musical note I also saw Eve 6 there, on Camp Schwab in 2014.
When it comes to Christian Nu-Metal, they were huge and probably the only act I knew of that fit that loose definition... not only did they get huge because of "Alive" and other songs from their album Satellite... but they were on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack "Sleeping Awake"... the song randomly pops in my head from time to time
Dude these guys got me started drumming when I was twelve and I haven't stopped since
Fundamental elements of southtown was one of the best albums of the 90's. I still listen to it today.
Sonny has been so kind the times I’ve gone up to him before and after shows
One of the best rock live shows I’ve ever seen. Sonny is one of the best front men in the game, so much passion and energy on stage. Seen them 3 times around San Diego and can’t wait to see them again.
Just saw P.O.D. last Thursday out here in Vegas. They were awesome. Got to hear a bunch of the new songs too.
They did a great acoustic version of Southtown for a radio station that still finds its way onto some of my playlists. Fantastic band!
Get to see them in May, can't fuckin wait
They made a bunch of great songs. Saw them on stage a few years ago in Europe.
I saw P.O.D. open the show for 3 Days Grace & Shinedown maybe 6 years ago, and they completely stole the show.
Not a huge fan of any of those 3 going in, but left with big respect for P.O.D. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I was obsessed with POD in high school.. so much so that my first tattoo was the Testify album cover 😅
Still love this band. Fundamental Elements is an amazing album.
Been listening to "youth of the nation" lately, hits different when you aint young anymore.
BOOM!
Southtown had the best breakdown to any song in the genre at the time
great song.
Great video man. I grew up in this time and never knew all of this about POD. Great band and great music from them. Again, great video!
thanks! I loved Satellite growing up. It was a trip down memory lane to do this one.
Me too!!!!!@@rnrtruestories
One of the most important bands to me, and as a drummer, no one has influenced me more than Wuv did back in the early 2000's when i was really get into drumming in bands.
Save for me.
Ran into these guys three times at three different airports. Super authentic, nice guys. They are the real deal.
They always give 110% for their fans!
Wish I could’ve seen them with Jinjer.
POD is soooo good live!
I remember the band but did not know what happened. Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome
I remember being at that show in Walled Lake where I’m from. I also ran into them at that Denny’s after and they signed my shirt that I had on that I still have. They are an awesome group of guys and I loved seeing their success after. I’ve been fortunate to see other groups rise from the bottom in and out of the Christian music world. Michigan has always been a popular stop for smaller bands.
Hey, I’m from Walled Lake too! Where was the show? When he said Walled Lake I thought no way where would 1,000 people gather for a show in WL?!
I’m just commenting again because YT sucks at sending notifications and I’m still wondering where 1,000 people would gather for a show in WL. Not saying it didn’t happen! Genuinely curious
Amazing breakdown of facts and clear commentary on their history. Great job
Was gonna start this video with a compilation of nhl body checks set to Boom
I can listen to each album from Fundamental Elements thru When Angels and Serpents in 1 sitting while I play WoW Classic. SOLID ROCK ALBUMS 👍🏻👍🏻
Non christian here. I loved POD growing up. Loved this video!
You don’t have to be a Christian to believe in God. God speed brother
Jesus is the only way to salvation.
You mean because of their Christianity
@@GetChalkedUp Yes, my mistake thanks for correcting me
Jinjer singer Tatiana Shmayluk's husband, former Suicide Silence drummer Alex Lopez is touring/recording with P.O.D. now. Cool story bro!
Tati has some parts on one of their new songs.
One thing that could be said is the comparison with Il Niño even when they come from basically opposite scenes
OG Ill Nino is the most underrated metal band.
Best show I have ever been to was P.O.D with Il Nino opening for them in Amsterdam.
Very long, but fascinating and interesting video. Great job.
I basically became very aware of POD in 2001-02 because of "Alive" and "Youth Of A Nation." I really loved both songs, especially the latter. These songs are good people. 🤘🏻🐻🤘🏻
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, been a Warrior since ‘94! Could’ve spent another 10mins for the last 10yrs instead of crunching into 2mins.
Wife and I saw POD in Denver in '01 or '02. A Great show! one of our favorites. Our 4 and 6 yr old kids listened to a lot f P.O.D. back then too ;)
Those first albums on Rescue Records go so hard. Brings back some great memories
"Boom" was banned from the radio because of the name of the song after 9/11. Wild times!
@@suprchickn7745System of a Down, purposely, made a song named that, after 9/11
Fundamentals of Southtown was an incredible album! Super original POD
Was just listening to them the other day after not hearing them for a long time! Love Youth of a Nation
Always LOVED P.O.D. ! Thanks for this!
I saw POD on the Meteora tour with Linkin Park 20 years ago. I was able to see them last week with Bad Wolves and Norma Jean with my 12 year old. What a great experience to share with her.
My daughter is also 12, I pray that one day we will be in each other's life again😢
Someone sing with me...
"I can still see the light at the end of the tunnel shine
Through the dark times
Even when I lose my mind
But it feels like no one in the world is listening
And I can't ever seem to make the right decisions....
I walk around in this same haze
I'm still caught in my same ways
I'm losing time in these strange days
But somehow, I always know the right things to say
I don't know what time it is
Or who's the one to blame for this
And I believe what I can't see
And how do you know which way the wind blows
Cus I can feel it all around
I'm lost between the sound
And just when I think I know
Then she goes....
GOODBYE FOR NOW
GOODBYE FOR NOW
SO LONG....
Really loved this documentary on one of my favorite bands!
Love POD since the mid 2000s. One of and still the best Christian group. Their greatest hits was my first intro to them. I need to listen to their songs a lot more again now that their new album is around the corner.
I remember when their song came out after September 11th happened. That was the first time I heard them. It was kind of chilling. I love that song.
Lmao Never connected the two. I don't think I heard them at the same time
One of my favorite bands of all time!!!
This was amazing! Please do ones for Flyleaf and Red! 🖤
Crossed the line
Aint ever coming back
Told the world how he felt
With the sound of a gat
In my opinion
That lyric above
Is on my Mt Rushmore of dope ass lyrics
Just an op
AWESOME documentary Bro! Thank YOU!!!
I met the fellas three years ago when P.O.D. came to Detroit at St. Andrews Hall. Genuine great dudes and they always put on a great show!
The fact that people were naming their kids after Sonny’s kid says it all. One of the greatest bands of the 2000’s.
Look into the story of queensryche and there very public falling out. You might find it worthy of a video in the future. Thanks for all the content and keep rockin!
yes, queenscryche has been heavily requested on my channel for years so they will definitely be getting videos.
