No no no its more like Bryce Harper: I’ve signed the biggest contract in professional sports Mike Trout: ... Because Mike Trout is a very humble guy who doesn't start a ten team bidding war like Manny or Bryce, Mike is an awesome dude and deserves every penny.
Bryce will bring home more $ then trout does cause of the huge tax in Cali. So Bryce will gladly hold his beer while trout takes it up the ass from the tax man.
If you are going to do a story that means something that's where you go to the amazing Mets. Who came from last place I think it was nine games out with something like 25 games left won the division and won the World Series. Way bigger of an accomplishment than the Phillies.
He was entirely a fiscal investment. Look at their attendance during like 2010-2013. They were on top and then shot to the bottom with guys like Howard and Rollins not preforming like they used to. Harper is a streaky hitter but damn he's fun to watch. They didn't get Harper with the sole purpose of doing well in 2019, they got him because he would rejuvenate a town that used to pack Citizens Bank in 40+K numbers on a regular basses.
Phillies fan here. I was thrilled when we got Realmuto. I was also more in favor of getting Machado than Harper. But I think we can at least be respectable with the players we have. The Phillies have been in an offensive slump since May 23, 2010. Maybe these new acquisitions will get them some hitters capable of hitting .300 or higher. (I am 66 years old and speak only in batting average. OPS, OPS+, WAR, etc., don't mean anything to me. Ditto for pitching stats. I know ERA, but not ERA+ or WHIP.)
You’re definitely underestimating the Phillies they added 3 all stars, Realmuto Segura and Harper and added Robertson and mccutchen. And a few more arms in the pen. The rotation is better than what a lot of people outside of philly think, the main reason why the Phillies last year were “in it” last year was cuz of the rotation. Pivetta and Arrieta seem to both have their velo improved. Arrieta has a mid 3 era for a good part of the season last year till he had his knee problems in the second half
Good video, Dawson, and I'm not saying it because I'm an old Phillies fan. Someone finally said what the signing really mean. I'm just hoping it'll end up with the Phils gaining their third World Series championship, at least, by the time the contract is done.
Having a big name in Harper, plus making a bunch of solid moves to create a strong core, is the best pitch the Phillies can make towards Trout. I think Trout is the type of guy who wants to stay loyal to the team that drafted him, but I also think he could be frustrated with the lack of help surrounding him in Anaheim. Also, this sets up the Phillies for the future with or without Trout, all while making sure not to handcuff themselves to a bunch of bad deals.
Lol. I love the "Bryce Harper isn't all that good" argument and all of the Philly haters that follow. Bryce is gonna tear up in Philly- let's not forget that he was playing for a team last year that seemed content to quit on itself (plus the Nats couldn't get past the first round even if they did make the playoffs 😂). Plus, he's faced injuries in prior years and he batted over .300 in the second half last year. I could see Harper delivering an MVP caliber season this year. And we got a few guys by the names of McCutchen, Realmuto, and Segura. Realmuto is the best catcher in baseball. McCutchen is coming to Citizens Bank Park from San Francisco (subtracting his short time with NY) so his numbers are gonna be so much better than they've been. Segura flies under the radar, but he's a pure hitter that will give us a solid .300 batting average. Plus we have Franco and Herrera, who have both proven that they do have untapped potential with a bat. We also have a solid bullpen, 3 young pitchers that could potentially put stuff together, a veteran world series winner in Arrieta, and a little guy named Aaron NOLA (who had a 2.37 era last year). If you dont think that team has a good shot at winning the east, then you're an overly biased Philly hater lol
Honestly I think his defensive numbers were down last year because he was attempting to not get hurt during his contract year. Remember that one time he ran face first into the wall chasing a fly ball? Dude was absolutely not going to do that in a contract year. He gets seriously hurt and so would his contract value in 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if he had another season close to 2015 this year.
What you said about the entire city of philly flipping back into baseball mode is SO true. Im a yankees fan who lives in South Jersey and everyone started paying attention to them again cuz they got Harper
Dawson: "There are a lot of false narratives going about this signing, and Bryce Harper bringing a title back to DC." Harper: I'm about to end this man's career, even if this is my past team and I'm no longer on this team anyone. I'M A PSYCHIC!!!!!
Matt Scott they’re asking price is way too much for what they’re actual worth. Keuchel has had a mediocre *AT BEST* past 2 years and wanted 5 years at around 70-80 million. Kimbrel at one point wanted 96 million. He’s a closer. When teams have closers in their farm systems for way less and more potential, and players like Ken Giles, Blake Parker, and Fernando Rodney will do the job fine for such little money. (Parker is 1.8M, Rodney is 4.25M, and Giles is 6M)
Why is everyone downplaying the phillies, this lineup is DANGEROUS, I get the rotation isn't stellar but they clearly have the best lineup in the NL East, if not the NL all together
Ya know who is underestimated? The New York Mets Best rotation in the division good pen Cano and Lowrie as options for the infield, and Amed Rosario poised for a breakout. Conforto, Cespedes, and Nimmo make a solid but not amazing outfield. I say they at least get a wildcard spot
call me crazy but being a fan of the marlins for my whole life (14 years) i’ve seen the depths of baseball hell. this year will be the same, but in two years a contender will be on the field. our prospects will be ready and our core will be strong. 2021 world series champs you heard it here first.
Phillie will definitely get Trout next year. An outfield that consists of Trout,Harper,McCutchen. This was my dream outfield when I was supporting Pirates in 2015.
I am a Phillies fan and I agree with what you are saying. Every great team has a good rotation and our rotation isn't great. I think the braves and us will be back and forth kinda like last year and I think the Phillies have the better lineup and bullpen(depending on if they get krimbel) and I think we'll win the division
I live in Philly.I cant wait to see Bryce on the regular. That said..His game is up and down. He's not consistent.Trout is.He stole a few bases last year.He should steal more. And he's proven to be a little injury prone. His walks are great! And will keep him a star if his average sinks..We brought the B Harper superstar brand when we signed him..I'm just not sure he can live up to it
I mean, phillies were 8 games behind last year, and thats because they bombed in September and August....their team is far away much better than lat year in every way. The key will be if Herrera and Franco have those MVP of the month random spots they had last year or if they have the worst player on the team spots like they sometimes do... But I don't understand how quite a few are putting the phillies to finish third or even fourth in the division... The nats lost harper and got corbin...so not much change...braves haven't changed much.... but phillies have... If the phillies improve at all, which they will, doesn't that put them right there? I'm quite confused about how people are thinking...but maybe that will help their odds in vegas
Okay about Arrieta trend going down??? Uhhh he tore his meniscus for the second half of the season and continued to pitch he’s healthy now and I think he’s still got a lot left in the tank with that movement he possesses
Clubs to over spend on free agents. They are paying for what the player accomplished from their previous team. The Detroit Tigers are paying a ridiculous salary to Cabrera. They are paying Prince Fielder who they traded away years ago and hasn't played anywhere in a few years now. They paid Justin Verlander to win a World Series with Houston and Houson's marketing department gets all of the advantages of his accomplishments in Motown. At best they have to hope that these players remain so popular that they will attend events with their former team after retirement and help sell some tickets on bobblehead promotional nights and number retirements ceremonies. That's if they remain positive to their former clubs and the fan base.
I’m not an Angels fan or a Phillies fan, but in my opinion it would be bad for baseball if Trout went to another team. Even if the angels have to give Trout 5% ownership in the team and a $500 million dollar contract, they cannot allow him to put on another Mlb teams uniform. It would be gross
He omitted the 4th reason an owner would offer an athlete this much money: the owner is a fool who doesn't know what he's doing. Phils had a terrible season and Harper wasn't even one of the top 30 outfielders in baseball in 2019. His numbers look good for 2015, but in the jackrabbit ball era there are lots of guys putting up numbers as good or better. Well the Nats just won the World Series so clearly it worked out
Avi Scheinberg He kept his promise!
yes it did

Brett Storm me

Bryce did his mission

FINALLY it’s been a long month Dawson I’ve missed ya
TROUTY an angel for life!!! 12 Years/430
And then you find out Trout signed for 12 year 430M
Welp, the 10 year extension for Mike Trout immediately made this Video look dated already LMAO but nice job, bro
Haha
Ooh yeah I have been waiting on this for a while! So glad to see you upload again!
About 17 thousand dollers per inning
Lol better watch out for the marlins😂😂
They’re sleepers
WS contenders mate
Damn the disrespect to the marlins! They have a 10 game winning streak as of today!
with all due respect this comment would've been relevant about 2 seasons ago, before they dumped away their ENTIRE strong young core
ThatBoy Marcus you don’t get its a joke do you? Always the one guy
Mike Trout watched the first 5 seconds of this video and was like hold my beer
PLZ do a story on the 1993 phillies they came back from last place in the mlb to making it to the World Series
I’ll look into it 👀
Thanks Dawson also one of they’re players had Tourette’s syndrome
@@Dagoat5903 Jim E

Dawson could you make a 2019 mlb mock draft video
I’ll probably do a draft preview/recap
Great video I learned a lot
I feel signing Bryce is less about making the team better, and more about selling tickets.
Bro, finally you come out w a new video. You were killing me. And the nats r gonna win the nl east.
No mention of Segura?
Yeah, idk why they said they only have harper and arrieta on the payroll. That's just not true. Cutch was 50 mil alone and he's put for the year now.
I like what the Mets did during the winter, I got the Mets with the bravos getting the wildcard.
Nice video Dawson🔥 ur legitimately one of my favorite RUclipsrs!
Good to have you back dawson
😉
Nl east is either braves or Philadelphia
lol
Oooops....

Look who’s back boys!
Why do I think kimbrel and kechel haven’t signed yet along with Gio
Kimberl and Keuchel think they’re worth more than they are
