    did you seriously made video that shows how to clean dust or dirt from the hat, and not sweat or some other serious stains?

    • @ConnerHats
      @ConnerHats  3 года назад

      I need to update that video but sweat stains are impossible to totally remove from a straw hat.. the only option is to get creative and paint the hat.

      @@ConnerHats Hello Connor, i hear you, however, sweat can easily be removed, with the tips i've mentioned in my above comment. Using lukewarm to very warm water, combined with soap, or a natural based body wash liquid soap, does work wonders! I do it regularly and i swear by it. My hats are pretty, but not very expensive, so i can get away with this cleaning method. With more expensive hats and leather hats, taking them to your local dry cleaner, who doesn't use harsh chemicals and specialises specifically in steam cleaning, is a great idea. But if you own a steam cleaning machine for your clothes, then that's the best thing to use & is a great money saving method. The very hot steam, spread over the entire dirty area does the trick, then you can simply wipe clean with a clean, dry towel & the job's done.

    Wow, that was not helpful at all. These are pretty obvious ways to clean just about anything, but at the start of the video you show baking soda, white vinegar and a bunch of other options. How do you clean stinking sweat out of a straw hat? That’s what I want to know.

      Dunk it in a spring, give it a shake underwater, and put it on...
      This video is for urban cowboys, not people that sweat.

    Any tips on getting a mouldy smell out of a raffia hat that's been sitting in a damp place for too long? Thanks.

    Those hats are brand new.
    I'm looking for a way to get years old sweat buildup out of a straw hat that's made of a very absorbent and soft type of straw. I'm having trouble finding anything on cleaning that type of straw hat. Most videos I find depict stiff lacquered white straw hats that are impervious to everything. I need a solution to cleaning softer more absorbent straw hats. At this rate I'll need to just buy a new hat... but I'd rather keep the old one because it's got memories that go with it.
    Edit: The last time I tried to clean my straw hat, it just made the stains worse. It also probably damaged the fibers further.

    That’s funny! I would recommend to people put your hat on a chair or a pole outside on a windy day and let that clean it? 😢

    How about the sweat? How to clean that?

    • @ConnerHats

      If its on the crown try a little vinegar in water on a rag, if on the crown also try that or try baking soda on the hat then a t shirt over the top then Iron, its really hard to remove sweat stains

      Whenever you sweat, you should immediate wipe the area with a damp white cloth.

      @@ConnerHats Thanks for your tips and they're much appreciated, but to be brutally honest & yes, this is what i always do & to date, haven't had any adverse issues with my sun hats, is to wash them under full running water. They're very easy to clean, if you simply wash properly under warm running water and very gently rub all over whilst the water is still running, with some natural soap (not too much), then rinse all soap off properly. I pay particular attention to the interior of my hat, specifically where my forehead and crown of my head are situated, bec of any stale smells, bodily oils, stains, etc;. Once thoroughly rinsed, i dry flat on a towel inside my laundry, bec i don't want flies and bugs landing all over my clean hat outside & potentially laying maggots, eggs, etc;. IMPO, i regard this as proper washing & it appears to clean much better, than simply dabbing here and there with vinegar, bicarb etc;. Also, whilst vinegar is a great & natural cleaning agent, vinegar does smell bad, so that for me, would simply not work. I want my sun hat to smell properly cleaned and not smell worse than prior. I know many people who also steam their hats clean, with their residentially bought, clothing/attire steam cleaning machines. We do own one, but i've yet to try this method with my sun hats. I'm well aware however, that some more expensive hats and specifically leather hats, cannot be washed under running water, as that'll potentially destroy them, their shape, shade/colour, etc;. In this case, following your tips is well advised, or even taking your hat to your local dry cleaner is a great idea, as they'll clean it well, according to their professional standards/instructions and you'll end up with a nicely cleaned and sanitised smelling hat. Sorry for this mountain of info! lol

    It's a great idea to check the tags with washing instructions, any time you buy a new hat. Most lower priced hats have attached tags inside them & most expensive hats, may come with interior tags too, with cleaning &/or washing instructions. If your hat doesn't, then do ask staff where you bought your hat. They may well know, but even if they don't, you can simply google and find out, or head to your local dry cleaning specialist and ask them for their professional advice.

      Good advice but please don't ever dry clean a hat, its such a harsh chemical process and you don't want that on your body especially your head

    How to clean the cloth part inside without destroying the integrity of the hats Form? Because after wearing it quite a while some hair grease is going to make the inside dirty

    • @ConnerHats
      @ConnerHats  4 года назад +2

      Hi Lemi, if you fold out the sweat band and hand wash it very carefully with soap and water, it will take time and care as to not wet the hat body too much.. then let it dry naturally after many rinses.. that could definitely help.

    • @ConnerHats

      it depends on what's one the hat or if its a stain of some kind, but you can use some of the other ideas for cloth hats ... but generally simply water and a rag will take care of a dirty straw hat
