Electoral Politics provides an opportunity to serve the people at a higher level. The requirement in a democracy is that citizens need to be educated and well informed. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance a vigilance that must not be compromised by personal greed, ethnicity, religion or any other partisan or selfish interest. The leaders of political parties need to think about their legacy and they need to determine those who are truly loyal and patriotic within and outside their ranks. It is this core of patriotic and principled individual who are mature, emotionally balanced and unprejudiced that will be expected to dispassionately and judiciously make the decisions that affect all citizens. A political party needs to be transparent in terms of the principles they publicly espouse and they need to stand by these principles in all circumstances. Service to the people is a privilege and a sacred trust that must not be taken lightly. There is hope for electoral politics in Trinidad if individuals act honorably publicly and privately and lawfully uphold the constitution thereby providing each citizen with a measure of stability and comfort.
Politics MOSTLY attracts the 'dregs' of society IMO. I have yet to come across an HONEST politician, who has a STRONG moral compass and is NOT easily corrupted by $$ funneled down to them via the 'ELITE $yri@n$.' One that actually cares about the citizens that they are supposed to serve.......these qualities folks, is almost impossible to come across in politics.
Brother Muhammad, it's not just nonstop allegations of corruption, but it is in fact nonstop corruption. Black people are the only divided group, all the others know that there is strength in unity.
I waited yo hear solutions to these problems. Most enlightened trinis I think are aware of that which you speak. One of the solutions might be a genuine grassroot party of ppl not into politics. The problem there is amerikkkan intervemtion. You dont get change unless you suffer. Are we prepared?

sounds very lofty and idealistic, I dear say 'koombaya'. I wonder if those requirements and utopian ideals can exist in a highly capitalistic model.

The solution is accountability treason for corrupted officials & push for human rights to put the power in the people & not the state.
