Canada also operated the CF 100 at the same time. This was a Canadian fighter designed and built by Avro Canada. It was the first all-weather fighter interceptor. The Saber and the Canuck were the primary fighters of the RCAF for much of the 1950s.
The CA-27 or CAC Sabre was the Australian version of the F-86F with 4 canons instead of the 6 machine guns and a rolls Royce Avon engine instead it had better acceleration and is probably one of the best Sabre variants
and Bobby Hull (famous hockey player for Chicago Black HAWKS) was caller the golden jet. I actually saw the Golden Hawks show at RCAF Trenton in the summer of 1960. Awesome! Good job dude!
I have read that this team did demonstrations not only in Canada but also the US. So the following is possible. I was a school boy in the Galesburg, IL about the time this team was active. I was out in the schoolyard, probably recess, when three maybe four jet fighters came over at low level. They had a paint scheme very similar in color to the Golden Hawks. Mostly yellow as I remember with some red stripes. Definitely a fighter with swept back wings. I thought I had probably mistaken the yellow color as I never found any demonstration teams with those colors until watching this video.
I sat for quite a while in one of the Golden Hawks one weekend when my dad came in to catch up on paperwork at RCAF Station Winnipeg. I imagine my mom had said "You can go to work but you take this one!". Would have happily sat there all day. And in fact I sit in airplanes all day now although I can't say I'm as wild about it as I was then.
Loved the episode, this is my favorite RCAF fast mover. Thanks foe showcasing her. Pst.... little niggle tho. It's Defence, not Defense in the Dept of National.... we spell it differently up here.
The Canadair Sabres were the best of all the Sabres it has been argued. The Orenda engines were pretty much the most powerful engines used in a Sabre. Orenda went on to be developing the Iroquois which would have been in the Arrow had it ever made it to production. They were well over 25000 lbs of thrust with AB. The J79s in the prototypes made it fast and the Iroquois would have been 30 or 40% more
Bob and Doug McKenzie would be proud of your Canadian accent, eh? But nah, we really don't talk like that, eh? A few years ago my wife planned a trip down to Seattle for my 50th and your museum was going to be one of our stops because I'm a plane nerd. Unfortunately some sort of pandemic hit and wiped our trip out. I didn't know you had a Canadair F86, will definitly have to make the trip now!
There is a Golden Hawk CL-13 mounted on the water front of my town on the waterfront of the St Lawrence River. It is still one of the prettiest plane ever IMO.
Actually. There use to be a Chatham NB and it had an RCAF station. (later CFB Chatham). The town of Chatham was merged with the town of Bathurst and is now known as Miramachi NB. The military base was closed in The 80’s

I was a young base brat.. in CFB Chatham from 74-76.. and the Golden Hawk Sabre was the gate guard.. excellent video.. thanks.. EH!
Excellent video, it's amazing the history this airframe has. Always liked the F86, it has a style like American cars of the time, cool.
Awesome episode, eh. Yeah, I'm Canadian!
Love that aircraft, love this show, want your job! Thanks for keeping these coming during this crazy time
Thank you for the support Jon!
These were the best F-86's that were ever built .
As a Canadian Thank you for using the proper terms like Mk and a great informative history of this aircraft EH ;)
How cool is this!
RCAF flew a sabre in air demos in 2010. Painted gold. It was pretty cool.
Cool bird, bucko!
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!
Perfect chase plane for the 747 being a (mostly) subsonic yet very high performance jet.

pretty sure it was only 2 x 30mm cannons

South Africa got the Cl-13 Mk6 to help fight in the Korean War, my great uncle supposedly flew one in the bold SAAF livery, so my mother has told me.

Behind it and to its right, below the Coast Guard chopper: A hopped-up Corsair II, or what?
The prototype Vought F-8 Crusader.
The remains of a CL-13 Mark 4 (F-86E(M) can be found in Bitola, Macedonia, where it served in the Yugoslav air force.
So its one of the many good things Canada made
Canadair & De Havilland made many of the best aircraft in the world.

7:11 I like this color scheme reminds me of a beer can XD
real cool eh!
Is it maintained in air worthy condition?
Jackie Cochran used a Canadian Sabre to be the first woman to break the sound barrier (in a dive).Jackie was a much better pilot than Amelia Earhart.
Amelia got herself lost and died!!!

439 Squadron - Fangs of Death!
What happened to wing over the rockies channel... you left that channel??

Why do we got that funny-lookin’ red Rudolph nose eh?
Didn’t the Royal Air Force buy Canadian made F-86’s?

Ten bucks is ten bucks...
