This is one of my favorite songs ever, originally written by Big Bill Broonzy. Eric says in his autobiography that this was one of the first songs he ever learned to play fully on guitar as a kid. The fact he stretched this song into what it is….masterful display of guitar playing. Also, this led me down a path of learning about so many of the original blues artists in history, including Big Bill. Thank you, Eric!
I'd say it's above average, yet so wonderful to hear Chris tinkling. This serves as a great reminder to the second best guitar track performance in the history of music. KTTH off Layla.
Maybe the best live Clapton I've seen. Back in about 1970 I saw him at the Olympia stadium I'm Detroit, the very old home of the Red Wings. Great concert. Who opened? Carlos Santana. Are you kidding me? This was a show! I used to afford a concert in the old days. Now it's ridiculous. Can you imagine what it would cost to see Clapton and Santana in the same show now. The seats I had at Olympia? I'd have to mortgage my house...
Mr. eric Clapton ...Just one of the MOST BRILLIANT Musician EVER lived , his Music , his voice is so Familiar , he could play everything and it sounds like "Slowhand" one of the ten BIGGEST Things in music in my opinion including all the classic music (Bach Beethoven Mozart ) and all Contemporary Music The GREAT Eric Clapton
The Great Clapton has made a living from playing the same two scales over and over and over and over in the same 3 keys god why didnt i think of that i know Billy Gibbons has lol
What's up? Don't worry, there are more than a few who want to be your "Forever Woman". I must admit I listened to the song over and over but never really knew what he was saying. "before I can talk to the boss." Excellente!
thebmaster in action the most underaed singer ever fantastic and dont get me started on guitar playing the man man invented the blues in england , in the 90s there was no one on the planet with his chops merry christmas evryone
Just amazing, what a band, what an arrangement, what a sound, what innovation by a master guitarist. Have played this a dozen times and it just gets better. Great song and Eric at his best.
Bonsoir. Punaise . Mr Clapton est booste dans cette version . Je pense que Bonamassa , John Mayer lui ont fait du bien de jouer ensemble . Enfin ça roule fort encore Bravo
What a superbly different rendition to the equally brilliant but bluesy version also on you tube here with Keith. This one, I half expected Rick Parfitt to show up!
I got the key to the highway, Billed out and bound to go. I'm gonna leave here running Walking is most too slow. I'm going back to the border Woman, where I'm better known. You know you haven't done nothing, Drove a good man away from home. When the moon peeks over the mountains I'll be on my way. I'm gonna roam this old highway Until the break of day. So long. So long babe litle da im i say good bay I'm gonna roam this old highway Until the day i die. I got the key to the highway, Billed out and bound to go. I'm gonna leave here running; Walking is most too slow.
Buddy Guy and Junior Wells had the best version of the song from Buddy Guy's "Jamming the Blues Electric and Acoustic" but no one has it on here and I lost my CD of it.
Play this at my funeral, I am going to go down that old highway one last time .I will meet up with the Angel of Death somewhere on that lonely desert road and she will bring me home.
Oh, no. We will one day stand before God in judgement. Either hell and then the Lake of Fire for sinners, or heaven and the heavenly city, New Jerusalem, for the saved, for eternity. Do you now understand why Christians never give up preaching the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ? It is forever, it's that important for each one.
The version on derik and the dominoes in concert is MY favorite. He also does pretty good on bottle of red wine...check out the drum solo on let it rain!
Going to see Clapton tonight in Pittsburgh so this is gettin' me tuned up. I have playing my '54 anniversery Strat along with this performance. Psyched up for tonite!!!!! The version with Derek Trucks and the ABB is also good to jam too......I got the Key To The Highway. Playin' it for 40 years
ildedoni, you are going to tell Eric Clapton how to play a song!!! Dude! I don't know who you are but no one can play a guitar better than Eric Clapton............He makes every song his own. I wish I could do that. He knows how to play anything then he makes it his own!! Awesome musician and artist!
Ive listened to many of Eric;s albums and this to me is the bet version of Key to the Highway.. seems like all the old "rockers" the "baby boomers" still got it...... Its funny how the how our now Generation is playing the 60's and 70's rock
As a former Status Quo fan, this song is in the "key" of Status Quo, especially the rhythm guitar sound. The bass sounds Status Quo like, in parts, too. That's why it's the best version. P.S. Now it's all about Amazing Grace. Because, I Know Who Holds Tomorrow. 🙂
Everyone on that stage is a musician….. and that is Sir Eric Clapton. Ok children, that concludes our conversation… Carry on… 💯☮️
Thank you
Look how he just flows on stage... vocally, instrumentally and charismatically!
...the greatest thing about Clapton is that he makes every song his own!
My personal Favorite Artist!!!

I love this video! IMHO this is within the top 10 of all blues live performances ever! Eric is more than a legend!
No matter what period of his career Clapton has always played this song well.
my guitar teacher made me watch this, I did not regret it
Long life to Eric Clapton.
This has got to be one of the best performances of key to the highway I've ever seen from Clapton. Awesome.
yeah... true!!!!! .... but the piano is just as good... who is it? It ain't Nicky hopkins, but this is wonderful!
So loose. It's great
@@yochg911That’s Chris Stainton!
Very very good version!
I'd say it's above average, yet so wonderful to hear Chris tinkling. This serves as a great reminder to the second best guitar track performance in the history of music. KTTH off Layla.
Big Bill paved the way for so many!
Awesome Mr. Eric Clapton
The master at work - near perfection.....
IMO this is the "key" to Eric's sound. Even better than Layla.
Love that seasoned baby blue Strat! And no one can make it sing like Clapton!
This man created loud rocking blues with Cream's version of Crossroads. It's damn hard not to love it.
Fijn Weekend allemáál 👋Groetjes ❤🇳🇱🎸👍👋
I first EC do this on the Layla and Other Songs album. This video is well edited. The sound is really deep.
Love Eric.Been playing his stuff for 40 odd years.Ever noticed that he never makes strange faces when soloing.Neither did Jeff Beck.
Mr. eric Clapton ...Just one of the MOST BRILLIANT alround Musician EVER lived
One of the GEATEST SETS EVER
Maybe the best live Clapton I've seen. Back in about 1970 I saw him at the Olympia stadium I'm Detroit, the very old home of the Red Wings. Great concert. Who opened? Carlos Santana. The GREAT Eric Clapton
Wise words from the one and only Jimi Hendrix
His music ?
The Great Clapton has made a living from playing the same two scales over and over and over and over in the same 3 keys god why didnt i think of that i know Billy Gibbons has lol
Eric Clapton is second to none when it comes to his articulation🙏🙏🙏
What gets me about Eric is not that he's so good, it's that he makes it look so easy.
He’s even doing it for about 60 odd years of course he’s gonna make it look easy. He can do it in his sleep
Got the key to my soul
Been a fan for years. Keep em coming mr. Clapton.
Eric Clapton un geniu al muzicii!! Fantastic!!❤🤗♥️
one of the most awesome songs ever
Blues 101. I agree.

When I grow up i want to be eric clapton
Thanks for sharing! Great version of this standard! I saw him play this at the Fillmore East in 1970 with Derek and the Dominoes! Love it!
Cool is all I can say.
Whoa!! The standard by which all else is judged!
Just amazing, what a band, what an arrangement, what a sound, what innovation by a master guitarist. Have played this a dozen times and it just gets better. Great song and Eric at his best.

Ed Howard that’s a Clapton custom Strat!
Go Eric! killin it!
I Live the Key....................
Although the Dominoes recording is the best, I do quite like this rockin' version.
It 's in the same rockin' mood that legendary version of Derek was... right?
