Mr. Sacadura, thank you for being so clear in your instructions and demonstrations. My fig grafts in the past two years have gone from hit and miss to over 90% take rate. My favorite is the whip and tongue if diameters allow. But bud grafts and modified cleft grafting have been working well, too. Once again, thank you for your excellent teaching.
Fig pollination is essential for Smyrna type varieties and can also improve Common fig varieties. Take the time to graft a few caprifig varieties and install a fig wasp population near your fig orchard, if your hardiness zone allows for it. A pollinated fig is simply unbelievable, regarding taste. If you enjoy my work, LIKE and leave a COMMENT to help me make more. Despite an increasing work load, I will try to answer as many comments as I can.
Thanks for a great video. I have several cuttings of caprifigs I"m getting ready to root. Too cold for wasps but I hope to hand-pollinate some of my figs.
Thank you very much for another professional and high quality video! Keep up the good work! Can I ask you a question please? Is there a specific reason of choosing a scion with a fig on it? Many thanks!
Thank you for this video, looking forward to the next ones on caprification. I definitely want to get my hands on some good caprifigs now. I was wondering, when grafting a tall branch like these, will you be removing the growth that vegetates below your grafts?
Can I cut a scion from One tree in early spring and graft ir to another in the same day or a few days after, or does the scion have to be dorment for some time before grafting? If I can do it, is early spring the best time? Thanks.
Yes, you can, provided the tree from where you removed the scion is not ahead of the rootstock. That i, the rootstock and the scion should already have awaken from dormancy and are both moving sap. If the rootstock is still dormant and the scion awake, there is a chance the graft will fail.
It lays eggs in successive crops of caprifigs (3 in total). The winter crop protects them and keeps them alive if the winter is not excessively cold. I will cover that in detail in my upcoming video on the fig wasp life cycle.
When my caprifig grafts are established, with regular caprifig crops, its simply a matter of bringing a few mature wild figs filled with wasps from the south of the country. The wasps will leave the figs and will start looking for a new crop of caprifigs to lay eggs. Hopefully they will be able to establish themselves and survive the winter. I will address all these nuances in my upcoming video on the fig wasp life cycle.
Obrigado
In my experience, fig wasps pollinate both types. They don't seem to have a preference for the Smyrna type. As I said in the video a good common fig turn excellent with pollination (more juicy and with seeds that taste like little almonds).
i didn't realize figs could be over pollinated. i was thinking about trying to get a caprifig and manually pollinating them to make them taste better. maybe that wouldn't work?
Hi. Over the last three yeast I’ve tried grafting a white variety of wine onto a red variety with no success. Then I was told that it requires 25 C for the callus to form - is that correct? Here in Denmark temperatures above 25 c is, unfortunately, not common.
It's very important to make a few shallow cuts below the graft to drain excessive sap. Otherwise the grafts will "drown" and fail. You can see what I mean at min. 03.38 on this video - ruclips.net/video/NBV9OIfQlaY/видео.html
My friend all this information is useless without telling us when or at least at what outside temp. to do this for successful grafting. I live in a dry and hot zone but you make no mention of when it is the most suitable time to do this. Can this be done in fall but before leaf drop? It is relatively cool at this time of year. Thank you.
for my experience grafting is only successful when the sap is flowing. so fall and early winter would be the worst time to try this. and in this video you can see that he did it in early summer.
The reason I did it in early summer (the date is mentioned in the video) was that a friend has got me the scions at that time. Sometimes we have to work with what we have, even if its not the best season to do it. As Niko is telling you, the best time would be early spring, as soon as the sap is flowing.

Thank you. Very informative video indeed.
Excelente, felicitaciones por esos maravillosos higos!.😊
Hello
Thanks for this Idea and grefe technic, and wich Month produce that?
Spring is the best month. I have done it a bit late, in May (when I received the scions), but with adequate protection the grafts are fine.
This was Amazing!

Thank you for your clear and precise commentary but I have a question? How does the capri wasp survive for the next season?
It lays eggs in successive crops of caprifigs (3 in total). The winter crop protects them and keeps them alive if the winter is not excessively cold. I will cover that in detail in my upcoming video on the fig wasp life cycle.
@@JSacadura Thank you looking forward to it
Where do you get your Parafilm from?
I have fouln lots of laboratory equipment and plastic band
but have not really found anything for grafting.
How do you farm the fig wasps? Or maybe, attract them? Will you show all that in yhe next video? Thanks

Hola que son los cabrahigos?
Mr. Sacadura I have a fig tree that does not produce figs. I would like to graft other verities to it, is August/September to late to do this?

Great grafting technology! Would you please show uns the progress how to graft a tree peony?⚠️⚠️⚠️
Thanks! I will try, if time allows.
Thanks for the reply! That special grafting should be in the fall (now) or next fall…
Gracias
Sir, can we cultivate fig wasp in tropical& humid weather like bangladesh?
As long as the caprifigs don't drop the fig crops, the wasps should be fine. It's usually very cold winters that cause problems.
Should we water the rootstock after grafting
Wow👍👉🇮🇩🙏🙏
