I just become a Yaphit fan, and I found out that the voice actor had passed away....sigh. God Bless him.

Seriously, Yaphit would have deserved to become chief engineer. He really knows his stuff.
If The Orville gets renewed for a Season 4, what they should do is have Yaphit (using existing dialogue of Norm MacDonald) announce he's retiring in the 1st episode & have his son be his replacement on the crew as a proper send off to the character, & his son could be voiced by Seth Green.
Or his actual son.
Yaphit's a real team player... and a true leader. He will be sorely missed.
Who WOULDN'T want to have fun with a sentient slime alien? Seriously, it sounds like it would be a wild experience.

Its a parody from people that felt passionate about the source and tries to be similar to it. Meanwhile modern startrek tries to evolve beyond its own origins, for better or worse.
