- Two of the greatest female vocalists to ever come out of England were Vera Lynn and Anne Shelton (1923-1994). They were paired up on this novelty tune, which is interested but not great. They recorded this on November 5th, 1949.
Not to detract from Dame Vera but it is a shame that Anne Shelton is now almost forgotten. She was beautiful both in face and voice. That lovey rich melodic sound. Apparently she suffered health and weight issues in later life and died in 1994 at the age of just 70 years. Anne ( proper name Patricia Sibley) was a teenage singer with the Ambrose orchestra.
I agree. I liked Anne Shelton slightly more but Vera Lynn was the bigger star.
I think its great.
I do too
great stuff never heard this, it does show the differences in the voices and Anne is a different class to vera, vera was untouchable in w'ell meet again and white cliffs of dover but overall Anne was the top dog.
Anne wasnt a dog..wouldof been her birthday yesterday.
But vera was in a class of her.own.
As far as I know, this is the only song by Vera Lynn in which her name is mentioned.
You're probably right.
Hollywood Square Dance is also a song that is duet with Anne Shelton@@tripdownmemorylane
Does anybody know who the conductor was?
