      I feel like his account has been making really good progress in the short time it’s been around (been here since 800 subscribers). He might’ve just needed a vacation. His videos are super high quality so I’m sure it takes a while to make them, especially considering how often he’d pump them out. Let’s hope he’s a little more rested now!

    I'm a long-time fan of SpaceBucket - but temperatures in "Fahrenheit". Really ? Surely you could give the temps in both modern scientific, (degrees C), and old imperial units ? Just aa a small courtesy to the Rest of the World. Otherwise, thanks for the great videos.

    Dream Chaser will be a wonderful addition to the US cargo delivery and operations services. One of the interesting things that are true is that Dream Chaser will use a Berthing Port instead of a docking port on ISS. That means that the valuable docking ports can be conserved. Berthing Ports also are wider than docking ports, so bulkier cargo can be carried in the pressurized module and enter the ISS through the port.
    I wonder how many years it will take to create a man-rated spaceplane. That would be the coolest, but such an endeavor is difficult. For example, look how long it was between Cargo Dragon becoming fully operational and the Crew Dragon's first flight.

    • @martythemartian99
      @martythemartian99 4 месяца назад +1

      I believe we would already have a crew rated Dream Chaser if Sierra Space had been given the contract instead of Boeing. One of NASA's biggest mistakes in recent years.

    • @_starfiend
      @_starfiend 4 месяца назад +1

      Where do you get that 'berthing' ports are different from 'docking' ports? All the ports on the US side of the station use a common docking adaptor which allows for both berthing and docking.

    • @martythemartian99
      @martythemartian99 4 месяца назад

      @@_starfiend Yeah.. kinda.. but not exactly. A ship that can dock itself needs a docking port, and can't use a berthing port without help from the station. So grabbing a ship with the ISS arm and placing it at a berthing port, keeps the docking port free for other ships. Not the best explanation, I admit.🤓

    • @_starfiend
      @_starfiend 4 месяца назад +1

      @@martythemartian99 There is no such thing as a berthing port. All ports are for both berthing and docking. It's the same port! For berthing the visiting ship is grabbed by the canadarm, for docking the ship does it itself, but regardless, IT'S THE SAME PHYSICAL PORT! There is NO separate berthing port. As I understand it, some ports are easier to berth to, but it still a docking port as well.

    • @martythemartian99
      @martythemartian99 4 месяца назад

      @@_starfiend Except for the berthing ports, which are generally on the side of a station module, where a self docking ship can't dock because there are no docking sensors etc. Sure it can be grabbed by the arm, but it can't dock.
      At the end of the day, even if they have the same mechanism, the ISS partners do refer to them as Docking Ports, and Berthing Ports.

    I was been curious why the tiles were not larger sections. I understand the need to flex as things heat up, it seem like it's issue having to replace all those tiles all the time. I know the shuttle was more challenging to upkeep.

    Blows my mind how small this craft is. What is its purpose exactly? Will it have payload, or external payload?

    • @davidstevenson9517
      @davidstevenson9517 3 месяца назад

      Same as the usual for spaceplanes: delivering crews and payloads to and from LEO.
      Space planes are the future for ALL Earth/LEO missions. Todays "rockets" are merely extended ICBMs with the nuclear warhead exchanged for passengers and cargos i.e. still experimental (including SpaceX Falcons, ULA Vulcans, BO New Glenns).
      Future spaceplanes will takeoff and land like aircraft, with jets below the stratosphere; then rockets or scramjets above to boost to orbit.
      (Re: Rockwell "StarRaker", 1970s)
      The Moon is the Spaceport of an Earth/Moon/NE Asteroid economy. Reusable rockets launched from Earth are only a stopgap measure to economize launches while we develop spaceplanes and the Lunar Spaceport Industry.

    • @davidstevenson9517
      @davidstevenson9517 4 месяца назад

      Spaceplanes are the future for almost ALL Earth/LEO launches; ballistic missiles as launchers are merely Humanity's first method to achieve Spaceflight.
      Rockets are too crude and rough-riding; that after over 60 years We are still using capsules under parachutes, I find embarrassing.
