I’d be interested in this if it was closer to $350. Especially since I picked up a King Turtle with Ceramic/Sapphire for $400. Definitely not interested over $400. Just too many other good options at that price point. Great review as always.
Mineral glass is less prone to the milky ring of sapphire. If mineral is a deal breaker, wait until the aftermarket makes a sapphire replacement for $20
To everyone here complaining that it doesn't have sapphire crystal and has a pressed clasp, just remember it's Seiko entry diver. Plenty of micro Brands out there for us to enjoy that offer better specifications. But none of them have the rich history that Seiko does
Comments are funny about the sapphire. I can remember back when a 4000 dollar Breitling had mineral crystal on the glass, and I never thought less of the brand.
Rob u say Hardlex crystal is not such a big deal. so why does Seiko put sapphire crystal on their higher-end watches? Seiko is just stubborn and they keep slapping their customers in the face because their customers keep accepting it
The end links close to the case being recessed ever so slightly in comparison to the lug height puts me off somehow and that date disc could be red as well. Aside those simple gripes, the rest of the design and color is right up my alley!
Great looking dial, hands and bezel. Love that "red" colored dial & crazy about the hand sets. Also, 41.6mm size is absolutely perfect for my 7.4" wrist!!!! As for the date & date window??? Common. Either you have it like the Monster or just get rid of it. It looks like an ugly mole on a beautiful face. But again, what really disappoint me is that the bracelet (pin & collar) and especially the stamped clasp. Honestly, it shouldn't cost that much to upgrade them to screw links and on-the-fly adjustment and I certainly would not mind coughing up extra $50 or so or even more for that. To me, those are really the deal-breakers. Again, thanks for this awesome review, Rob PS: 23 MJ number? wow. I didn't know Rob was a NBA fan. Great ! I know that Rob is trying to sell that pin&collar bracelet, but good screw links always win over any pin&collar bracelet. And really, it does not cost that much either to do it.
Pin and collar is a good secure interface, but my issue is that I often drop the collars when I'm in a hurry and not being careful enough and once you drop them they will never be seen again.....but I know that's on me. 🤷♂️
@@malkinmaloneI don't believe it is. It helps with the requirement of withstanding sideways force to the crown underwater, but isn't required in itself.
“In-house” is a Swiss thing. The Japanese say, ‘what does in-house mean?’ Of course, its in-house for Seiko and Grand Seiko. They make nearly everything in-house…Henry Ford style.
@@Butterfliege911 Check out Islander watches by Long Island Watch. You have 38mm and 43mm skx homages to choose from. Yes, they are homages, but the brand was started not because the owner tried to make a quick buck off of somebody else's design, but because he is a veteran in the industry who was frustrated by the fact that Seiko didn't give the SKX the proper upgrades thst the fans wanted and released the 5KX (5 Sports) instead. At 300 bucks, Islanders are a good deal. Seiko movements, sapphire glass, ceramic or sapphire bezel inserts, solid steel clasps. The clasp on their 43mm diver (milled inner part and pressed outer shell) can be replaced by their own Islander fully milled clasp that features on-the-fly adjustment for 60 dollars. The clasp on the 38mm version doesn't have an alternative from their brand. Good luck with your search.
Really poor attempt by Seiko. Instead of aligning chapter ring, they simply removed it. Case looks more similar to Shogun than Samurai but with decreased size (less material used). Bezel looks like it was taken straight from Sport 5 series. No resemblance to original model, cuts being taken on every step but hey, the price is about 600USD woow Seiko, just woow Monster may have had the same price in the day but it's a better watch. I'd rather take a used Monster than this Shogurai ripoff.
I have to disagree Rob, It’s overpriced. MSRP is about the same as a King Samurai that comes with a sapphire crystal and the upgraded ceramic bezel insert. It’s hard to buy a Seiko nowadays as there’s so many microbrands making much better watches for half of what a Seiko costs.
Is hardlex a better glass? Sapphire can be shattered. G Shock doesn’t have sapphire no? So let’s assume it’s a tough glass. I know Rolex owners that choose Seiko for everyday tough use.
Split pins always, easy to remove, easy to refit, never come loose.
And no chapter ring to get misaligned! This is a great looking watch.
Should buy a scale and pop it on the desk there Rob. Would be a good thing to ad to your specs round up.
Clean looking watch and sizing.

The King Turtle has an MSRP of $625. Why not compare apples to apples?
@@fillerbunny Understood, but this watch is selling close to MSRP. The King Turtle isn't.
@@JMJAZZ51 It was 4½ years ago when it'd been just released.
I picked one up when they released, threw a MM300 clasp on and have been enjoying it. These are pin and collar.
I picked up the black version today for $430. Replaced the bracelet with a Straphabit black strap, and I'm happy!

Came in to watch this video, ended up leaving and buying an orange monster 😂🤦♂️ Thanks Rob
Wise choice

I do like this watch.
Great colour and size
Good afternoon, which watch is better, the Seiko SRPL11 Red Samurai or the Venezianico Nereide Red?
Hardlex on a prospex? Ya they’re moving backwards.

My aliexpress watch has sapphire crystal and it cost 60 bucks. Does the crown screw down on this model I heard it doesn’t?
I thought screw down crown is required for anything rated 200m.
@@malkinmaloneI don't believe it is. It helps with the requirement of withstanding sideways force to the crown underwater, but isn't required in itself.
I don't understand why everybody call this a Samurai. I don't any resemblance other than the knurling of the bezel.
I think it's the angular case shape

With this price without sapphire! Unbelievable! Even kamasu at half the price has sapphire!
575 and the bezel still doesn't line up?! No way. Ill stick with micro brands that have actual QC.
Ok
No domed sapphire. No fully lumed bezel. Seiko keeps getting smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.
It definitely needs a sapphire though. Im out cause of it.
Both mineral glass and that garbage clasp are immediate deal breakers. Every year, brands are getting a bit better. But not Seiko...

Shogurai !!!!
