I have the at3 4s on my Tacoma and have had no issues going on 3 years and hardly any wear. These tires are amazing ! The wet weather we get here in Virginia is very unpredictable and these tires are very sure-footed in wet conditions.
Great to know this. I recently purchased the 4S in 255/75/17 for my 2nd Gen Tacoma and I haven't really put it to the test. My first impression was I thought it was fairly quiet during my road trip to southern CA.
Great to know I ordered a set for my 21 Tacoma up here in Jersey. I have older AT3’s on my older Silverado and love them. I’m hoping to feel the same with them on my Tacoma
I’m in NJ too, did you get 4S or LT’s for your taco? We’re going into winter and I’m wondering if I’ll regret the cheaper 4S on my 23’ F-150. Not a big overlander, just daily Jobsite/gravel lots, and dirt roads for weekend camping trips, occasional light utility trailer haul. Any insight would be appreciated!
It truly is a fantastic tire 4 trucks in my family have them. Great tire for fl. Wet conditions. Great mileage, low noise, believe it or not it does great in mudding florida roads and wet grasses.
I've ran these Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT tires on my half-ton GMC 4x4 since 2015. I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles and I've gone through 2 sets since 2015. I live on 50 miles of heavy gravel, plus I hunt and get firewood so need off-trail in dry and mud...then head to town for groceries on the highway. I also live in Montana so have winter ice & snow conditions to deal with. I can NOT say enough GOOD things about these tires. I've had an average of 55,000 miles on each set. This last set that I'm about to change out has 61,000 miles on them! Great job on these tires, Cooper!
I love my Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT's. I have a 1997 K2500 Suburban. We load up the family and tow the boat over several mountain passes here in Washington state. These tires handle everything we throw at them; snow, heavy rain, towing, forest service roads, slippery boat ramps, and long highway trips all with out issue and very little cabin noise. I've owned KO2 and hated them, couldn't wait to get them off my vehicle. I will be replacing my tires this fall and Coopers AT3 LT's will be going back on the Burban.
@@anthonycrots2161 Totally fare question. I bought a pare for my Jeep TJ in 2004 timeframe. I know a long time ago and yes they’ve made improvements to them since then but the hype/cult following was the same back then. For me they gave my light soft top Jeep a very rough ride. They felt heavy compared to other tires I’ve had. The tried pattern clogged easily and became slicks. Even aired down they felt square, limiting traction. Now with that being said the Jeep is a very light vehicle. I’m sure I would had better performance in a slightly heavier vehicle. I’ve known a lot of Tacoma guys run them them and like them. But for me they didn’t work well in the Jeep and for even heavier vehicles like my K2500 Suburban I prefer the Coopers.
I just bought the at3 for my expedition today. And we had a lake effect snow event last night with a foot of snow. I'm very happy with the way they handle snow and ice. That wagon goes like a tank.
@@Steven_ologist these are a heavier duty tire. The ride is a little rougher but I'm going down the road with my motorcycles in tow the truck rides great and even so when I'm hauling a ton of gravel or dirt.
The best and most extensive tire reviews out there. Thank you for all the great information. I never knew so much thought went into tires. I’m 42 and have overlooked how important a good tire is.great video
Good review of these tires. I have a full set of the AT3 XLT's on my 2015 Ford F350 which is a 4 door cab, 8ft bed, 4wd and electronic locking differential, and 20" stock rims just to set the baseline. I have towed fully loaded 5th wheel trailers through the mud in Florida after endless rainy days and weeks using these tires. I mainly credit the sidewall for being the reason I don't get stuck besides the obvious aggressive tread pattern. They handle great on the road loaded or empty. They ride very quiet and it has no vibration. I recommend these all day, any day, for someone who has trucks similar to mine regardless of brand.
Recently purchased a set of at3 lt for my gmc 2500hd.Shop owner said I couldn’t go wrong with the Coopers and several customers in the store agreed. Thanks for the recommendation
I’ve spent way too much time trying to figure out which AT tires to get and I think I’ve decided on the XLTs in 285/75/R18 for my 23 Tundra. Sounds like everyone has good things to say, and they’re a little bit lighter than comparable ones. Thanks for the videos and sharing your knowledge. 👍
Hey man I’m between the AT3 4S and the XLT. I don’t need the load range tire but I love the raised white letters. How have your XLTs been if you ended up buying them?
@@mattm5786 I like them! I went with 275 70 R18. The white lettering n my white tundra looks really good. They’re not loud tires, either. I’m happy with my purchase.
@@carrow2250 that’s awesome if you live a snowy area how are they in that kindve in environment I live in southern Ontario and we usually don’t get it too bad. But I will be running them through all the seasons.
I love the XLT’s on my truck. It’s almost always on the highway but I still go off-road to go camping on the weekends. The LT construction gives me the confidence to go over rough terrain.
This review has helped me greatly in deciding which of these cooper tires to purchase. Very good video and great explanation of each tire and scientific analysis spoken in laymens terms
Just bought four of these coopers at3 4s and they are awesome. I asked the installer what he thought of them and he turned to me and said they were the best.
Just put the at3 4s on my 2016 f150. Smooth ride and very quiet. Thanks for the info on these tires. Very good in the snow and rain. Good looking tire.
I have the Cooper AT3 LT275 70r 18's on my Tundra. They have good dry, wet, and snow traction. 15k miles and the treadwear looks great. Happy with these tires.
I have an 08 Tundra. Currently running KO2’s in 305 size with level kit. I really have no complaints with them other than loss of fuel mileage and road noise for the last 25k. I am almost to 100 Thousand Kilometres on them. Am leaning toward these Coopers as replacement. Did they effect your mpg’s at all and how are they in the snow? I’m in Canada and run snow very often!
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and I have the at3 XLT’s on my truck with a 2 inch lift with size 285/75/16 and it makes my truck look so nice and beautiful even though they are bigger tires I run my tire pressure at 40 psi and I ride a lot of highway and minor off-road they are quiet and very comfortable when I do go off the road it makes me feel confident. Love the at3’s only tires I’ll ever buy for my trucks.
Thanks for the video. I have BFG KO2's on my 2006 4x4 2500HD duramax, and ran them in snow and desert, towing boats and trailers, and I am replacing them after 9500 miles with the ATS3 Cooper, they are completely worn out even though I rotated them as per manufactures specifications. My Son's Truck is a 1/2 ton with a lift kit, and he didn't do much better with his KO2's. He also pulled trailers and such. My 1994 Jeep ZJ has the KO2"s, and they are fine after 15K miles. Pretty sure it has something to do with the weight of the vehicle, and towing / hauling. Going to give the Coopers a go because I have had good luck with the Dick Cepek Mountain cats that they no longer make, and they were a cooper tire made for Cepek.
BFG had a problem with the tread compound and accelerated wear with some sizes. They changed the compound and the new tires are going to be out in January. They lost alot of customers becasue of this.
Good vid. I'm all in on Cooper suv/truck tires. STT Pro on the Trooper (third set) and AT3 LT 10 ply on the 4runner, which replaced the Yokohamas . Never had a flat on any Cooper tire, despite the rocky off road trails we have in western Montana.
Good to see this review - just ordered some AT3 LT's for my 2003 Expedition - I couldn't say no to the price and this review sealed the deal. Thank you for the detailed video!
Really great tire. Great traction all year around. Very quiet for an All Terrain tire. I've put 45000 miles on a set of XLT's on an 04 2500hd. Still have a solid 30% tread life left.
Hello. I am leaning toward the Coopers rather than the K02 mainly for price but also because, I currently run Cooper and they have met all my needs. I find it interesting when talking about airing down the tire for more traction, you were on the XLT tire (which i think is 10 ply) I was thinking about geting a 10 ply tire, not for towing, but for increased traction when air down for increased traction, such as when you are stuck in snow or mud. I am at times out on off road roads or trails alone in my truck and getting stuck is something I try to avoid. But when stuck do you know if airing down a 10 ply tire versus a non 10 ply such as the AT3 4S is any difference in traction when trying to get unstuck? Thanks!
I have the Discovery AT3 LT in Lt 265-75/16 on my Silverado. They have been good tires so far, only had them for about five months. As far as noise is concerned, they do sing a bit, this is due to the tread being of a bit of an open design, I don't mind the singing, it's a good tune.
Just got myself the 4S for my 2WD '07 4runner. Looks cool and capable but without that "bro" look Surprisingly quiet on fwy and very comfortable. All positive so far. I'll update this comment in few years with my real thoughts. Going a little off road to Coxey Trail from Apple Valley to Big Bear this weekend so we'll see how these set will hold up.
Campus Automotive Inc went there last weekend. Few tough and deep spots but the 4S handled them effortlessly, not a slip. No chips. Pretty happy with the purchase. I’ll update this comment in few years.
I have 19 4runner nightshade with the XP 20x9 et14 wheels with the BFG Rugged Terrain 275/55-20. I love the Rugged T's but they are discontinued:( With the 3" lift going on with tax return I am thinking a 275/55 (32"OD) or the 265/60 (32.5" OD) Coopers. 90% on road mileage
Out of those three tires, which one would you recommend for a 2018 Toyota Tundra Crew Max 4wd that tows a 31ft travel trailer that weighs about 7400lbs? I live in Pennsylvania too so the snow is going to be a factor also.
since they stopped production of the cooper discoverer m+S (i drove 300.000 km on these tires on my 2 landcruiser) i had to get a new tire. nokia hapa... lt2 in snow is b...s.... for this season in got the new cooper discoverer at3 4s. i drove it twice on snow allready and i‘m realy happy so far. probably even better than the old m+s, and much much much better than the nokian.
Thank you for the info and redirecting me to this video! I kept looking for some proper review for cooper and this was the best! I`ll go for the AT3 4S on my hilux after seeing this :)
i only drive a Tacoma but I'm planning to get the LT version just because thats how I roll. Heavy duty tires on a light duty truck should last a VERY long time.
What I noticed right away after getting these tires oh, it was like as if the suspension was changed as well do I state-of-the-art off-road suspension, it handled potholes very well oh, they still do 5 years later. Hardly any mileage on them though oh, very good in the snow haven't gone off-roading with them have a quad for that what's mud tires. But they're very good oh, and they're installed on a Toyota RAV4 V6 with the trailering package. Great tires!
I am torn between the 4s, XLT and Grabber ATX. I had bad wet traction with KO2 so I hesitate to go that route. After 30k miles on them they were slippery. Mostly highway driving. Leveled Tundra.
Dan Nakoneczny I also have a levelled Tundra 08 and have been running KO2’s for last 100k. I have no complaints other than loss of mpg’s and road noise from them. I don’t go off road all that much anymore but still like a fairly capable tire when I do. Am leaning toward these Coopers XLT’s but trying to get as much feedback as possible. I need a tire that wears well, and gets snow/wet traction more than anything.
Big fan of your channel! I've got a 2016 Ram 4X4 Sport and am looking at going to a 285/60-20 tire from the stock 275/60-20. I currently have the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires and I love them, but they are not offered in the size I want to move to. I am considering the Cooper AT3 XLT and General Grabber ATX, which is what brought me back to your channel. 95% of our driving is On-Road which is why I like the Pirelli, they are not squirmy and very confidence inspiring on the road yet aggressive enough for the look I want (don't want a dedicated highway tire). We do have horses so when we tow, it's generally a trailer full of hay and in wet grass and/or muddy areas. What would your tire preference be? Also, I hear you mention lower, mid and higher tier tires. Would you be willing to make a video detailing what criteria puts certain tires in these categories? Again, thank you for your very informative videos, your channel is my go-to for tire info.
That’s a great idea for a video. I think you should stick with the factory size if possible. I would recommend the General Grabber ATX over the Cooper. I would also recommend the Continental Terrain Contact AT. The bigger size tire will crush your fuel mileage, especially while towing.
@@CampusautoCo Thank you! The reason for wanting a bigger/wider tire is to get a little more wheel protection. I am not the only driver and others don't take as much care as I do to not scuff the wheels on curbs, etc.... Fuel mileage isn't that big of a concern for me, as we have cars we drive as daily drivers.
I am hearing a lot of hot shots are using the XLT. Getting a new F350 4x4 and am looking at going with these. I am not going to hot shot but will be towing a TT for most of the truck's use.
Getting my xlts put on my 2011 silverado tomorrow went with a 285 65 18 since I'm leveled I think I'll do pretty good. I was torn between those and the toyo rt.
For someone in a Ford F150 in Montana who spends maybe 30% off road and mostly on gravel roads do you feel it's worth going with an 8 or 10ply tire? I've been on the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3's and have no flats ever. No leaks or issues whatsoever. I'm considering the Discoverer XLT but wondering if I really need to go 10ply. Any thoughts are helpful. Your reviews are great, btw!
235 70 r 16... Hyundai Santa Fe gls 3.3lv6 and I think 17 and 18s are available for this model, but rugged tires may need more space. So my beef is I like the cooper at3 s xlt? you mentioned the side wall looking better i agree, and know that is is more protected...same tread pattern as the Cooper at3 4s... but, for 16s, its hard to find a side wall that rugged as well as the tread to match. Ko2, atx, etc. The one new tire less know is the Radar Renegade AT5S...i like the sound of coopers heard good things, they are on sale know...but seem like all the bigger tires 18 threw 30 get the the bad ass look, 16s get the look just not as mean, plus the side walls on the atxs would be tight on the discovery at3 4s' any thoughts?... have you had a look at the Radar Renegade at5s3 ? Or would you mind taking a peak?....
I will be putting a set of the AT3 XLT's on my '99 Tacoma SR5 next week. Definitely a bit of overkill, as I use the truck mostly on roads, with some occasional trailer hauling in the summer, and part-time, too (it's my 2nd vehicle). But the LT is not available in 31/10.5R15 - a size that limits many tire options. I could buy 265/75R15, but those are usually STD range. I really appreciate this comparison review ... thanks!
Very helpful video. I'm looking for an American made tire that performs well on my F-150 4x4. Leaning toward a 10 ply E rating for towing stability and higher tire pressure when needed, Most of my time will be on the highway but occasional off road use. I'm leaning toward the Cooper AT 3 LT. Firestone and Bridgestone also offer nice tires. Not too aggressive but a bit of a rugged look. Not too noisy either. thank you!
good info thank you for sharing. I run AT3 XLT on my Chevy 2500HD 6.6 on stock 18's they are great. On my Tundra-Toyo M/T 70k and now on R/T 33x12.50x20. Honestly the Coopers seem better. Toyo is more aggressive looking but the Coopers simply work. They are half to cost as well. I have been in snow, mud, rain etc. No noticeable noise.
Just got the AT3 lt on my Tacoma and they handle horrible in the snow. I was sliding everywhere at really slow speeds. I ran some Toyo highway tires in snow last year and they handled the same. AT3 handle pretty good in mud and dirt though
Well I believe it all depends on how you are trying to trek on slippery surfaces. Snow and ice are going to be very tricky regardless of what tire you use and I'll give you an example, during winter time one year it snowed overnight and my job usually puts out an alert for dangerous driving conditions but didn't this one time and the road to work was completely iced over and I was following several cars ahead of me and behind me and once we hit the iced part which ended up being most of the way, the first car wiped out and I was barely able to get away from the drivers that didn't know how to handle the situation. I pulled off the road, put my 2015 off road tacoma with Cooper at3's in 4x4 and left everyone behind and I was the only one headed towards work. These tires handled absolutely awesome and like I said, you have to know how to drive on these kind of surfaces from experience.
Looking into these for my Sport Trac, only issue is they aren’t severe weather rated with the 3 peak symbol. I’m running Cooper AT/Ws at the moment and they are fantastic they are snow rated with the 3 peak symbol.
I have had goodyear and uniroyal all season tires years and they were O.K and then tried Cooper at3s: OMG! the BEST!! I love them! I live in Northern Michigan and we have mostly shitty roads, and these tires just eat it up! I admit you have to drive slower, but the Coopers give me Great traction even in a blizzard, but I call my boss and say Heeeeeeeellll no! I'm not comin' in; 😄
How would yall compare the at3 xlt to the toyo open country at3. I'm currently running the toyo at3 for treadlife, dry, wet, and snow traction. 33x12.50r20 04 yukon Denali with always a good amount of weight in the back and also tow. The toyo at2 I was highly disappointed in for performance and treadlife lasting only 25k miles. The at3 I'm impressed with so far with 10k miles but still have a ways to go to see about treadlife.
Do you plan to do a video or can you comment on the new Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail A/T Tire? I have the AT3 XLT's and have been great tires going on almost 80k miles on them . I drive a half ton truck and do pull a big travel trailer in the summer months, but considering trying the updated new Road and Trail A/T tire by Cooper, have loved my XLT's but my biggest thing i would change about them is the stiffness of the ride. Thanks
I thought I would try the AT3 XLT’s this time around on my 08 Toyota Tundra after reading a ton of reviews. They have been a great tire on wet, rainy weather but are absolutely horrible in any snow condition. I rotate religiously every 10k and they are wearing very quickly. I have an alignment done every time I put new tires on and it is spot on. If it looks like it might snow my traction control light comes on...... disappointed to say the least. I have tried different tire brands every time the truck is due for tires looking for the “one” brand that works the best on my truck. I had BFG’s on prior to these Coopers and will without a doubt be going back to BFG when these are worn out. I already dread next winter as there will still be tread left on the Coopers but I will be slip sliding away! They might work on some trucks but definitely not mine. They have been a big disappointment to say the least and they were not much cheaper than the BFG’s
@@anthonygiordano3991 I just rolled 50 thousand kilometres on these Coopers, they are getting worse in wet conditions now and have become quite noisy. I can’t wait till these are worn enough to replace them with BFG
I've been looking at these for a while and Walmart offers them in my size (235/75/15) for 74$ per tire, but they don't specify at3 at all. They are listed as "A/T" and in the pictures they don't have anything on the sidewall but "A/T". They are also rated at 60k (105T), so do you guys know if there is a difference?
I will be putting the AT3 4s on my Xterra in a week it will be a test to see how they do because I was going to put the Falken wildpeaks on my Sierra but may change my mind if these do well
@@jeffsnider7842 put them on the Xterra did great over the winter months. I also put them on my Sierra but I don't drive that much at all I did notice a gas mileage drop but that was expected as I went from a not very aggressive Goodyear SRA and jumped up a bigger size also
Great video!! 👍👍 And we all know everyone is picturing their truck with the At3 Xlt going thru some mud and driving to work on the highway. Even the small truck guys.😎 " I think I can get them At3 XLts on Chevy Colorado"
I like the look of the Cooper AT3's. I tow a 5th wheel and I am also looking for a tire that will also cut road noise and have the more aggressive look with off road ability. I have a SRW GMC Sierra 3500 and I don't like the all season Goodyear tires the truck came with.
The xlt is what i am buying next. Should wear like iron and have great wet on road performance. I have been running the at3s since they came out and cooper is the only tire i will ever run. My Bf Goodrich ko2s have let me down on road in wet environments.
@@mikewest712 thanks for the information. That appears to be the direction I will go when I go to buy tires. It will give me the wet wet traction and dirt and mud traction also plus the dry. I will also have the 60,000 mileage warranty.
Thank you for the nice explanation on three tires. Well done. I have a Ram 2500 and can't decide if I should go with the LT or XLT series. Noise isn't a huge factor or gas mileage for that matter, do you think so?
Looking to replace my oe Wrangler Duratracs on my Silverado. They're great tires, but much too noisy for my purposes. I believe the Coopers would be a good choice, but are they quiet on the highway?
Matt, can you recommend a replacement tire for my 2022 ram 1500 rebel? I never really go off road it’s my daily driver, lots of bad roads here in NJ and snow. I was researching the cooper AT34S just wanted your thoughts. Thx you
What is recommended for my 2020 ram limited 1500 with stock 22”s, I’m always on the highway but also like the agressive looks I rarely go off roading but also live in Chicago where it snows alot in the winter months.
Move out of that depressing hell hole and sell that pos and move somewhere where u can actually offroad and have fun absolutely zero public land to offroad at in illinois
Hello - I'm also leaning to the cooper discoverer at3 4s - I have a 2011 Ford F150 4x4 Crew and live in Northeast Ohio - we get Lake effect snow at times - Go off road 5 %-maybe 10% - tow a little - mostly light loads (ATVs) - Have Michelin Defenders LTX and shoulder gone with 55K. Also considering Hankook AT2, Continental Terraincontact AT or HT, Firestone LE3 and General HTS60 - I saw you HT review - have not seen a AT review with above mentioned. Interested in your suggestion - I'm an easy going driver. Thank you Todd
@@CampusautoCo - What is your view on the at3 xlt vs the bfg ko2 for rainy/wet road conditions? Which would be safer? I don’t want to be hydroplaning or slipping if it rains.
My dad had ko2s when I had the old AT3s in Colorado. ko2s we’re not great in snow compared to the AT3s. Other than that they were both great in our experience.
I know you love the grabbers atx. But I don't do any off roading. Maybe to the odd fishing hole. I need a all terrain tire good in the winter but good on the pavement with good wear. Can you recommend anything. Thanks
I loved my ko2s in Arizona, but I'm soon moving to SC. I'm going to need more rain/ice capability, possibly? I don't want to risk punctures while roading, and the ko2s did great in that aspect. I absolutely love Michelins on my car and motorcycle, so I'm curious if they make something i would like as well. Any suggestions?
I’m debating between these tires and Nitto ridge grapplers. I have a 2018 ram 1500 eco diesel (lifting it 6” and putting 35x12.5x20s on) wanted to you what you do in my shoes? These XLTs or Nittos? Or any other recommendations you have
Going to buy 4s for my silverado. I do 95% highway driving. Little off road for fishing and hunting. Want a smooth quiet ride. Who ply would you recommend? Thanks. Love the videos
Would you say the cooper at3 xlt is quieter on the road than the bf Goodrich ko2? I'm looking for a tire for my 2010 fj cruiser. The ko2 are great and not that loud on the road but I'm thinking of trying the cooper's. I know the ko2 is probably a better tire but I like how the at3 xlt has an aggressive look and could possibly be quieter on the road?

The Falken AT3W is made for a more northern climate. With the snow peak/ snow flake rated, it will definitely outperform any of the AT3 serie tires in the snow/ice/slush/rain. The Cooper AT3 serie is a great lineup and very quiet but not on the same level as the BFG ko2, or the GY Duratrac or the Falken AT3W.
@@henryford2736 the W version is a dedicated winter tire with a softer compound and more sipings , it would get destroyed during summer time if you didn't take them off.
@@fj400007 No, you’re incorrect. The outgoing ATW is absolutely a 4-season tire, but with a strong bias towards snow traction. They obsoleted it though; much of the current AT3 lineup is 3PMS rated, including some of the XLT’s (even though it’s not marketed as such). They also just released a new winter-specific light truck tire.
Thanks for the info, is the AT3 4S a LT tire? Also does it come in Size 275/70 R18? I have a 2021 Ram Rebel with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac Tire but i find them a little bit noisy on the road and they are heavy tires. I'm looking for something with less noise and easier to roll for better mpg. Preferably winter rated. What do you recommend? Thank you
Looking for a tire for f-150,which can perform well in snow and slippery icy roads for Ontario weather , one of the advice people gave me is despite the truck has 4x4 , all terrain can land you in trouble when driving on snow and ice. So many pickup truck owners has advised to go winter tires and change them with all season in summer. Any advice on what to buy which also has aggressive looks
Having a tough time choosing tires. The Cooper AT3 4S's, or the Mortormaster X Trail Eliminators. I have seen them both with rebates on the coopers the price is 4 dollars different right now. The x tail looks like a tire cooper has called the discoverer rugged trek that i see online but if you look almost the same. When I press down on both tires( tire by themself 2 hands) the x trail is very stable makes me think once a rim and air are in there it would be more solid, or not. But the softness or flex could be better for when the temp drops, providing more grip. etc. The cooper did at3 4s and had more flex but I imagine that is just a difference in the compound or tread direction, but the plys are the same🤔...anyways the x trails felt stickier a bit lil more than the Cooper at3 4s, but only a little more....siping both were good 👍 tread patterns were different but the siping on the coopers from yrs in the past window shopping, I know they go all the way down and know the performance on snow and ice are good something to consider. Even though both tires in ratings are almost identical the x-trails are 100% On Ice'96 on snow, Coopers are 100% on snow 96 or 96 on ice, they're both all weather all terrains and have the three Peak Mountain snowflakes and like I said the motor Masters X trails are made by Cooper. If you go check out Cooper's rugged Trek discoverer, I don't know how old they are, not considering those at all, just something I noticed and thought was interesting. So other than both of them being weather rated and made by Cooper it's tuff. I mention don't 't know if this makes sense or a difference, but pressing down on both of them just standing up, and one had a little bit more Flex than the other Lil easier to push down, that was the Cooper at34s, the x-trail being a little harder depressed down, which appealed to me because my passenger snow tires I had last year, sidewall bulged out the side didn't like at all soft didn't' give that stability you have from an A/T tire which also can take bumps and hard terrains like packed ice in the back alleys and side roads, and not be rattled. It was not a good experience, I have had all terrains the entire time owning this vehicle(2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3l awd, which is why I am going with snow-rated A/T. Maybe that is one reason to go for the Motormasters, though I don't imagine I would have much of a problem even though these are passenger tires A/Ts with a stronger compound. Stiffer might not be the best either because I was told the light truck tires weren't recommended for my vehicle because would be harder on the suspension, I figured this could be true with the x-trail even though it's designed for the size of the vehicle, but I would rather have the security and stability than a flimsy tire that bulge, I would take that chance, plus the plys are the same as I mentioned. All in all, they're both about the same and they're both made by Cooper, they both have the snowflake, and both have been tested in the severe Canadian weather that we get in this region. Other than the motor master x-trail eliminators being newer and a little more sticky than the Discover a t 3 4, and a little stiffer to push down, I'm at a stalemate. The siping direction and tread pattern are different but seem really good. The pattern of the Cooper is more forward directional, which for stopping and starting might grip better, but the multi-direction of the Motormaster's might help in sliding sideways to recapture and regrip, who knows? I know the Cooper AT3 4S are definitely good performers around the globe and have had time because they have been around longer. I have to make a decision in a couple of weeks for my appointment to get them on, but I am going down to Canadian Tire now to put a deposit on both, till I decide. . If somebody could help me I appreciate it, and let me know about the push test that might not nothing to do with anything, and also look at the Cooper rugged Trek I'm not buying or looking at, but they look similar tread wise sidewall-wise to the motor Master Eliminator X trails. I've studied and watched and seen the performance online of the AT3 discoverers so I know they are good, but those have been out for 4 years already, and the x-trails might be the newer better version, or Cooper might be holding a little back for their own name brand. All in all, it's going to be City driving. neither Tire would be fine. Appreciate it if you made it this far.
Good videos! Interesting about the comment on the BFGs being a better tyre. I recently changed my 50k (km) old KO2s for the AT3 XLTs. My biggest complaint with the KO2s was wet road performance; they were always a bit flighty in the rain, but they deteriorated noticeably with age. At 50k, there was heaps of tread left (at least 50%), but the stopping distances and rear end grip were dangerously poor. The Coopers are far, far better than the BFGs ever were on wet and dry asphalt and concrete roads. The more aggressive BFG tread will probably be missed on the next 4 wheeling adventure, but will be interesting to see how much worse the Coopers are, if at all. Also seems like the Cooper sidewalls are a little flimsier than the BFGs.
Quick question for you... I just bought a 2018 4Runner and frequently tow a trailer with 3 ATVs. Approximately 3,500 lb (gross weight). I don't want to over do it with the tire. Would recommend the 4S or LT? I had the XLTs on my old Jeep and they were great, but at times, a rough drive on the road. I appreciate your help.
This video is 5 years old . And it’s still awesome in 2023 I came back to see the difference between the xlt and LT great video thank you
Thanks for watching!
Same for me in 2024
I have the at3 4s on my Tacoma and have had no issues going on 3 years and hardly any wear.
I'm going with LT version, only because I've split sidewalls a few times on basic off road.
My favorite all terrain is the AT3 4S. It provides a great balance between highway and all terrain.
Thanks for the feedback!

Cooper tires are so under rated in the off road/ truck community they really are great tires
Totally agree!
Probably because they're relatively new.
They’re heavy though
No dog in this fight besides just ordering the LTs, but I'm curious what made you dislike the KO2 so much.

How are they in the sand?
I run these on my Rubicon gladiator in 285/75/18 and I couldn’t be any more impressed
They are fantastic in heavy rain and sand

Best tire I’ve ever owned out about 75k on them and still had plenty of traction left
which ones did you have?

You're welcome!

Very nice!
I like the XLT side wall in 18s for my Ford F150

I am not the only driver and others don't take as much care as I do to not scuff the wheels on curbs, etc.... do you think the Discoverer AT3 4S would be a good tire for my 2011 Ranger extended cab? tire size is P225/70R15 and is available in this brand thx
Radar Renegade at5s3 is a cheap offshore tire. Pretty much junk. If you like the Cooper, stick with the 4s. You will get a much better ride.
I really appreciate this comparison review ... thanks!
Let me know how they do. They seem to be a great tire.
you can never go wrong with an LT on anything larger than a car.
Not too noisy either. thank you!
You could also look at the Continental Terrain Contact AT. Skip the E rated tires. They will ruin your ride and they are way overkill.
good info thank you for sharing.
I agree. I put a set of AT3 LTs on my Tacoma last fall. They are the worst tires that I have used in snow.
I run the AT3 XLT on my Expedition. Higher pressure and more puncture resistance = more stable towing and peace of mind from puncture.
I'm buying my 3rd set of AT3s soon. I won't buy BFGs as long as AT3s are on the market.

I drive a half ton truck and do pull a big travel trailer in the summer months, but considering trying the updated new Road and Trail A/T tire by Cooper, have loved my XLT's but my biggest thing i would change about them is the stiffness of the ride.
Great feedback. I don't blame you for going with what works.
I have 35s on my truck and I love them.
But I hear the Ko2’s are horrible for wet road or rainy/slippery conditions. I hear the Coopers are much better for that situation.
@@anthonygiordano3991 I just rolled 50 thousand kilometres on these Coopers, they are getting worse in wet conditions now and have become quite noisy. I can’t wait till these are worn enough to replace them with BFG
@@jackjuby9520 - I don’t know what to believe anymore.. 🤷🏻♂️ I’m hearing the same spiel from both sides.
They are not the same. Cooper makes tire to Walmart Specs especially for them.
I will be putting the AT3 4s on my Xterra in a week it will be a test to see how they do because I was going to put the Falken wildpeaks on my Sierra but may change my mind if these do well
Awesome!
How do you like them 8 months later?
@@jeffsnider7842 put them on the Xterra did great over the winter months. I also put them on my Sierra but I don't drive that much at all I did notice a gas mileage drop but that was expected as I went from a not very aggressive Goodyear SRA and jumped up a bigger size also
Great video!! 👍👍
And we all know everyone is picturing their truck with the At3 Xlt going thru some mud and driving to work on the highway. Even the small truck guys.😎 " I think I can get them At3 XLts on Chevy Colorado"
Right on!
Did you get them and if so how do they ride
I like the look of the Cooper AT3's. I tow a 5th wheel and I am also looking for a tire that will also cut road noise and have the more aggressive look with off road ability. I have a SRW GMC Sierra 3500 and I don't like the all season Goodyear tires the truck came with.
I think that Cooper AT3 XLT would be a good choice.
@@CampusautoCo thanks for the update and suggestion.
It really depends on how you want the tire to look. I think everything else is the same.
Xlts !
Just had my at34s recalled just wondering if you could enlightening me on what and why thank you
Sidewall Bulges.
Just bought the AT3 XLT 30 mins ago..from Fairbanks Alaska!!!! Videos will be shoot after six months..
Let me know how they do.
Dot the Continental Terrain Contact AT. I do have two videos with that tire in it.
Which is best for a mix of snowy winter mountain roads and Ohio and Michigan roads?
All three would be fine. It all depends on which vehicle.
What’s your view on the at3 xlt vs the bfg ko2 looking for a good tire for soft sand and snow?
K02 all the way.
@@CampusautoCo ko2 are just garbage and so overrated.
The Cooper at3 are much better.
I know you love the grabbers atx. But I don't do any off roading. Maybe to the odd fishing hole. I need a all terrain tire good in the winter but good on the pavement with good wear. Can you recommend anything. Thanks
This Cooper would be a good choice. The Continental Terrain Contact AT would be another good choice.
@@CampusautoCo thanks for the reply your video's are awesome. Keep up the great work. Cheers
Any reviews set for the newer Cooper Discover road & trail AT
I have a toyota tacoma but haul stuff very often. Is the LT OK for better durability? The 4s seems like the more popular tire.
Is that XLT the best all terrain for towing you think? Looks pretty highway friendly.
This was a very helpful review perfectly explaining the tire differences and purposes
1500 or 2500?
1500
Would you say the cooper at3 xlt is quieter on the road than the bf Goodrich ko2? I'm looking for a tire for my 2010 fj cruiser. The ko2 are great and not that loud on the road but I'm thinking of trying the cooper's. I know the ko2 is probably a better tire but I like how the at3 xlt has an aggressive look and could possibly be quieter on the road?
You got the lt and xlt backwards. Xlt is for the 3/4 ton towing and hauling
2019 ford f150 lariat 4x4
Stock OEM tires are Goodyear wranglers -P275/55R20
Towing a 6500# (with 600# hitch weight) travel trailer once a month through the summer.
Do I need E rated tires or would P or XL work?
GVWR of truck is 7000#
Rear axle is 3800#
Payload is 1762#
I do not off road but so like a bit more aggressive looking tire - hoping the 4s will fit that bill.
Agreed
Cooper also makes winter version of this tire. The W. He didn't mention it.
Thank you
Try the Toyo Open Country AT3
Your accent alone makes me want to buy these tires haha but seriously I like the XLTs for my Titan XD
Lol. It's an Appalachian Dialect not a southern accent if anyone asks!
Try that Michelin Agilis Cross Climate.
When you have time, review the new Cooper Road & Trail tires please 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback!
You can’t review a tire unless you have experience with it…not a fan of saying this or that is better without running them on your vehicle
You will be fine with the 4S. The LT would be 8 or 10 ply and make it ride rough.
@@CampusautoCo Thanks!
Why it the LT not in the title of the video? Is the AT3 XL the one you are referring to as the LT?
Please review the cooper road + trail A/T
