    Have the XLT3 on my Ford F250 6.7 diesel FX4. As quiet and smooth as my Michelin AT2. Did took 1,000 miles to settle down. No noise or roar. Really good in the dry and sure footed in rain. In the past 2 weeks we've had more than our usual snow. We've gotten a foot of snow and I've crunched around in 4x4 with no problem. I deep fluffy snow just a bit of wheel spin clears them out. Have not been in deep mud and only ran through graded trails but no complaints there. Good mileage and wear.

      Yes, lots of people love the mui Macho mud tires but they are noisy, rough, actually had less traction in pavement and in the rain and wear much faster. May be ok when you're young, but it get old paying $1,800 for 4 corners every 2 years because they wear loke butter.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  9 месяцев назад

      I'm not 100% sure, but they appear to be very similar to the Cooper Discoverer ATP lineup that is sold exclusively through Direct Tire outlets. I imagine these are similar and allow for the vender to have an exclusive tire from Cooper (and so they don't have to worry about price matching anyone else!). Looks like a licensing thing. Probably a great tire and on par with Cooper's ATP sold at DT.

    Thanks for the video. I’m leaning towards the XL for my f 150 over the lease aggressive coolers. The ones your brother has. Is the ride quality a little stiffer more harsh on the XL’s compared to your brothers? I don’t need the extra load capacity but I do like the look of the XL’s better. Thanks for the video.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  Год назад

      I would highly recommend going with the 4S. The XL's definitely look a little bit better, but because they're an e-rating they are much heavier and stiffer. The extra weight will zap a little bit of power on acceleration and fuel economy because you're turning those heavier tires. And being stiffer they contribute to a rougher ride. Additionally, the 4S has more siping and a better tread compound for wet and cold weather. All that said, I think either the 4s or LTs or XLTs will be great and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. For my new daily driver, a tundra, I'll be sticking with the 4S's since I will not be doing any crazy off-roading.

We had a couple of ice/snow/rain days and they did great. The tread is a bit more aggressive so the ride isn't quite as smooth, but nothing really noticable. I haven't really tested them off road yet but trout camp is in 3 weeks, they will get quite a workout that week. The coopers look cooler and i think will do better on the trails. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I currently run the AT3 XLT on my Land Cruiser. I am very happy with them. I am now thinking on changing my tires on my, other truck, the FJ Cruiser. I'm thinking on going with the S/T Maxx. However, after hearing your thoughts on it and realizing we probably drive on similar situations (90% on-road, 10% off-road, importance to wet traction), I might stick with AT3's again. Is there anything else that could sway me back to the S/T Maxx over the AT3 LT or XLT?

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  3 года назад +3

      It really depends on your situation. Like I said I've got a winch, Max tracks, and I'm usually always off-roading with another vehicle so I'm not too concerned about getting stuck on any obstacles or anything. That makes my need for a hybrid tire or mud tire even less so. The only reason I would consider going with the hybrid tire is for the slightly better puncture resistance in the sidewall and the slightly better traction in the slippery stuff. I will likely continue choosing between all terrains for my daily driver / weekend warrior vehicle, and mud terrains for any dedicated off-roader. Good luck in your choice man, I know it's a tough one because tires are really expensive!

I heard the AT3’s have one of the best wet traction for an all terrain tire. And you could tell by looking at their tread pattern it’s good for wet weather.

Currently running KO2's E rated. They've been good tires overall. I have about 44k miles on them, decent amount of tread left but the wet traction is starting to suffer at this point, and I don't like to run tires down too low. If I remember correctly, the e-rating was the only one available for that size at the time. I could be wrong though. I can't quite remember. Also, in my opinion, there's not too much difference in stiffness from the seat of the pants feel between a c rated and e-rated tire. They are both light truck tires designed for heavier duty and higher capacities. Now the difference between a c load and a passenger tire is probably pretty noticeable. I honestly didn't think these were too stiff for this setup. That said, not as comfortable as a passenger tire for sure.

      I'm certainly no expert on the snowflake rating and how that's achieved, but from a little bit of research it seems like it could be one of those things companies have to actively go out and pursue through testing paid out of their own pocket and such. So just because the tire lacks a snowflake symbol may not mean it isnt great in the snow. I mean, I would highly doubt the compound is any different between the sizes and the XLT tire. But I'm not positive about that, I know there's minute differences and speed ratings and stuff so I wonder if that plays into it.
