Autumn 2006 and I heard Portico busking in Southbank in London. When they finished playing I went over and spoke with them. They told me they were playing again at some kind of mini festival at Embankment in about an hours time and I should come if I could. I did, and sat in a big deck chair and listened to them for an hour. I bought their EP from them, Gypsy Music. Prickly Pear was my favorite track. A year later they played at the Norwich Arts Center where I volunteered. I saw them again and briefly spoke with the sax player. When I told him I had a copy of Gypsy Music he was really chuffed. Their music has stuck with me since and I'm always taken back to those times when I hear them play.
I too discovered them in Autumn 2006 ✌️😯 I found them at about 1am on a channel on sky - called 'Spotlight' where I also found Nick Mulvey & Joe Driscoll.. both great artists! & although changed over the years, both still going now. Back to topic, I used to video record these dudes on my Sanyo Slide phone & turn it up as loud as possible without disturbing my mother in the room below! Ahhhhh the amount of people I tried to show these to between 2006-2010 then I gave up because the recording was terribly bad Quality & I started using RUclips around 2009/2010 & discovering many amazing artists! Respect RUclips! We love you!! Portico Quartet! We love you too!!! 👁️💗👁️💗👁️💗👁️
This, this is the evolution of music, blending classic instruments with digital sound. It's everything I could ever want. This is not just music, this is modern art in the form of sound!
I play Portico Quartet as house music when I have guests over and every time they complement the music and beg for the artist. I love your music Portico Quartet! Keep doing what you are doing!!!
same! It has a way of slowly working its way into you. It starts as background music until everyone starts to really "feel" it! Great music to dance and do yoga to as well :)
This song gave me a high, a sort of ecstasty I've haven't experienced in my entire life. I listened to it for a good 60 minutes before I was able to even move. Captured me in some sort of magical heaven. Everything was bliss. I hope this is how I feel when I am in heaven, in hell, something entirely else, or nothing at all. This gave me peace. Edit: Where can I send a text or email to the band? I'd like to give my thanks.
Agree, I always feel like someone let me out of prison when I hear this. It's mesmerising. (I'm not in prison, just can only describe the feeling with how I think that would feel like)
I listen to this on repeat not only during my oriental themed rps but when I'm sad, mad angry, happy, lonely, bored, or just need to think. That's good music there. It doesn't matter what you need, one tune fixes all.
La musique,du Faso est une source intarissable de douceurs. Elle permet de plonger au plus profond de soi et simultanément d'entrer en résonance avec son prochain, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤
Randomly remembered I used to listen to Protico Quartet in highschool 12 years ago. Came here today to listen again and instead I experienced timetravel.
I absolutely love this song, its the rythem of my life, it's what I feel best on, the conservative abundance and joy in this song make me burst out dancing on the street from time to time. Love it!
Wow de dow. What a movement. You have built your house, brick by heavy brick, and then proceeded to take a sledge hammer to it. What beautiful destruction. And life still lives...
I remember seeing these guys on the southbank busking years ago, I've never seen so many people captivated by a street performance for over an hour in my life
Thank you Peter for bringing this phenomenal band of musician/composers to the wider world. I saw them in Paris Monday night - stunning simplicity, gorgeous complexity.
phenomenal song. had it already in my playlist. today I felt like repeating it again and again, feeling the lack of dancing that shows authenticity when you are just with the music and yourself. a very personal yourney. reading all these heartwarming and so true comments I know what music can be like. thanks to the musicians. just listening to it feels kinda magic.
@@a.nobodys.nobody he used to back in the day. Like he wouldn't post anything for months and then he would just post a youtube video link, just the link, no thumbanil, no context. It was fun.
this song has changed my life in so many ways i love listening to it when i need to get things out of my mind... now looking at the video it makes me love it even more
Any band that includes a hang drum automatically has my attention and admiration. That said, Portico Quartet will always grab my fixation. Mesmerizing.
Ein wahres Meisterwerk in absoluter Vollendung. Unglaublich!
@BteamBencher Yeah its called a 'hang', a tuned percussion instrument that looks like a wok and sounds like a dampened steel drum , they apparently chanced upon it at Womad.

This jazztronica is the new Era of jazz. Its elevated in a unique way. I feel the soul and spirit of this song !
God.
This is one of those groups that makes you think "how can people settle for what's on the radio these days?"
Absolutely beautiful in every way.
💯
Check out Tied & Tickled Trio and The Cinematic Orchestra. Have been listening to them for years and just discovered this.

Check ClockDVA albums from early 90's > blending analogue with digital. Evolution started long ago ...

It really touches every emotion one can be feeling at the moment. That's why it's so beautiful.
