Will never be another Rodney. Truly in a league of his own. Then there's Foster Brooks on the Dean Martin roasts. His roasts of Sammy Davis Jr. and Don Rickles are priceless.
@@Daxtarr1Don’t get me wrong I’ll always give Rodney the nod he deserves, but Don wasn’t only funnier, he used comedy in an extremely racially tumultuous time in our world’s history to bring different people together. He made people laugh at each other, then at themselves to make everyone realize we aren’t as different as we like to be told we are. Don will always have the edge.
@@franktripodi8586 My dude, in their day you could get arrested for saying the "F" word. Clubs would fire you if you made fun of the president. Comedians have more freedom now than ever in the past.
My dad took me to Vegas when I turned 18 (that was legal age at the time), I talked him into taking me to see Rodney. My dad had no idea who he was. I'd never seen my pops laugh so hard. Unforgettable. I miss both of them.
I love new generation watching the greatest. This guy is a true hero. He did not make it until after his 50th birthday. I failed all my life. At my lowest, people knew I was great at my business and went in businesses with me because of my honesty. I made it after 50, but I never gave up. Now I meet young people on basketball court from my background. They are so good to me. I pray one of them becomes billionaires or President of the US. People, the youth today are much more aware of the world and dang smart.
I love Rodney hes funny as hell. he was a very tortured man. His demons followed him all the time but he always loved making people laugh. Rodney Dangerfield's last words in public were a one-liner about how long he would be hospitalized for the heart-valve replacement surgery which ended with his death: "If all goes well, about a week. If not, about an hour and a half".
And his tombstone reads: RODNEY DANGERFIELD THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD You're right, he had a very tough childhood and struggled with life-long depression and various addictions.
@@karenfryberger4260 I've been to that cemetery and saw his tombstone. Still making people smile long after he passed. The legacy of laughter is like no other.
How can you not get more badass than that. I do not know it I am really tough. For my family, yeah I am as tough as anyone walked on face of the earth, but like that, that is an OG.
Are you kidding….my parents hated me…..THEY HATED ME! They used to say “why can’t you be like your cousin Shelia, why can’t you be like your cousin Shelia”………Shelia had died at birth!
Rodney Dangerfield was actually well known for being a bit of a "blue" comedian and wasn't afraid of cursing and telling a dirty joke or two! But obviously, he didn't get to use that material on TV so most people never got to see that side of him. Still he still pushed boundaries with his comedy without ever going to far and alienating the audience, and it was always in good fun. He wasn't quite Lenny Bruce by any means, but still took risks and shook things up. He was one of the best, and there's never going to be another one quite like him!
I remember hearing a story about Eddie Murphy meeting Rodney. Eddie was in the bathroom and saw Rodney come in and wanted to talk to him because he was a fan. He bucked up the courage and told him he was a fan and looked up to him. Rodney said "I know who you are. You've got talent, kid, but do you have to curse so much?"
Getty Images has 343 pictures of Joan Dangerfield and her husband, Rodney. Joan, a stunning blonde, and Rodney were deeply in love and shared a life-long devotion to each other.
Hey it's Apples2Oranges. I love classic Pryor, Murphy's Delirious and Raw still put me on the floor, and I'm an old Guinea! But Rodney wrote the book on Stand up as much as it could be written!
Young People learning Rodney.. I like that. I grew up with this guy. Hilarious stuff as always. Can't do wife jokes like this today. You'll get " canceled.
Rodney is on my Mt. Rushmore of comedians. My favorite joke (and for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. Might have been in one of his books) of his and the first time in my life I laughed so hard it became physically painful was "My father's dying wish, he wanted me to sit on his lap. He was in the electric chair!"
I swear I could hear Rodney's voice telling a joke about being left out in the woods and a wolf came up to him. Rodney would have cried "Wolf!" but in his case it was the wolf that cried "Boy!"
Rodney is a legend - so many funny punchlines and inspired so many comedians that came after him. I also think he didn't get on stage until he was 40 but I could be wrong on that.
Rodney was relatively old when he broke through on Carson and became a juggernaut. He is beloved by every name comic of his day because he opened his hands and helped each and every damned one of them.
He is an example of never give up on your dreams. He tried and failed at stand-up comedy in his 20s, then got a sales job to support his family while still writing material when inspired then in his 50s or 60s he tried comedy again and saw great success.
Thank yall so much brought back some great memories Rodney is funny as hell and yall should maybe check out "Red Skelton " he is great for that old school comedy

Rodney's timing and delivery is God tier.
Rodney could sit there for an hour straight and roll them off without a repeat. Other comedians were in awe of him.
