Nkhulu Male Lion killing Sand River Cub | Lion Warfare

  • Nature is brutal. A Nkhulu male killed the youngest member of sand river pride this morning. The death of the cub made its mother and us very sad indeed. But the male just followed its instinct.
    As lion fans, we love them and pay attention to lion dynamics. The first thing we should do is to be a qualified audience, respect the nature, respect the instincts of wildlife.

    The sad part is the cub had no clue he just laid down in from t of the lion like he felt almost protected. I know it’s nature but it is just so cruel at times.

      Wow last I knew I lived in American and have the freedom to think and say what I want. I was given MY opinion and you know as well as I do I cannot read his mind. I feel he just laid there without a care in the world. We didn’t see what all led up to that moment. Everyone has an opinion on how they interpret what the facts before them then you have clowns that want to have smart remarks to make them feel like what they are feel or say is not right unless you agree. I think the cub knew and instinctually first froze then laid down to seem submissive. That is about all he could do in reality and the cub did it well. The cub instinctually knows that moving to run away would trigger the big lion’s pray drive instinct and he cannot outrun him being so small so the cub was actually smart as he did indeed confuse the big lion whose muscles were tense for a few minutes. Unfortunately it was not enough.

    So sad. Large male coalition can protect its cubs very good . Their team work can defend any their intruders or new male lions. Pride strength also play an important role to protect its cubs . If the pride has too many female lions , they can easily protect its cubs from a single male lion . This is my observation.

      Lol you're pretending that there is a moral dimension to animal behaviour. There isn't. They act only according to the set of traits and instincts bequeathed to them by natural selection. Morally condemning what this lion has done is about as sophisticated as condemning a zebra for having stripes. Besides, lion infanticide serves an important evolutionary purpose, however grim it is for us to watch.

      @@user-ue3tj2bu8j I said a set of instincts. There are variations of how those instincts are expressed in animal behaviour. The point is that there is no moral dimension to their behaviour, which is why it makes no sense to call the infanticide “unacceptable.” Further, there’s no compelling evidence that animals think of their behaviour in moral terms-that is, holding a belief that they *ought* or ought not to act a certain way.

      @marketcorp 11 месяцев назад +4

      It's about survival of the strongest and healthiest genes. This cub was likely the progeny of an old (previously dominant) male that was past his 'best by date'.
      Like many human dads these days... he is nowhere to be seen (possibly chased off or already killed) and a better equipped male has taken the position to take the pride into the future. The redundant male lions usually have a very lonely and sad ending too. They get kicked out of the pride by the new male/s and left to fend for themselves till they die in a fight, or of old age.
