    Little Clarification from someone who works for Midgards Messer:
    The Sleipnir was one of Dirks first designs (the 4th one if I remember correctly) that he made about 7 years ago which was actually a fixed knife there also used to be a tanto and a drop-point version of it too
    He designed it so you hold the knife while sticking your finger through the as he calls it „finger hole“ it just provides extra control and stability while using it - the belt buckle came way later and it just turned out that the hole came in handy for that usage too
    I asked him about it quite some time ago
    He especially designed the sleipnir with it‘s hole to be hold this way so you have a firm grip and can still hold it with 4 fingers while it remains compact (infact the fixed version has an even smaller handle which makes it impossible to hold without sticking your finger in the hole the folder just has a longer handle so the blade fits into it)
    Another fun fact:
    The Midgards Logo itself is actually just two fixed Sleipnirs layed down side by side facing eachother with the blade

    The law in Germany is one hand or locking, cant have both. That's why there's some Italian made knives that ship with the thumbstuds removed/not installed.

    I have the Gerber...looks almost the same but with a drop point blade.
    I think.we are expected to put our pointer finger in the hole for a good grip.
    The huge washers make for a very secure blade...no wiggle or wobble.

    Look up the Sleipnir fixed blade. It was a custom by MM in s30V. The ring on it is pivotal for the grip as the handle is super short. I have one I would be happy to ship you if wanted to compare. I know you don't do fixed blades too much though.

    If you put two sleipnirs together with the edges facing each other (open) it forms the helmet from their Viking head logo!
    I looked up the previous fixed blade sleipnir and it mentioned this on the listing so I looked up the logo, it’s kinda cool and the folder does it too with a few small differences. The hole forms the eye of the helmet so that may be part of the reason why there’s a hole

    Interesting fact: if you take two of them and put them on a table with blades to eachother it creates the midgards messer logo

    You might have to find an old road cyclist, the ring with the 2 little holes looks like you could use an old I think they called them sprocket wrenches.

    I think you can one hand manipulate it if you pinch the top of the blade on those groves. Might snap it open with enough force. Was I usually do on big knives or karambits.

    Yo I bought the Gerber one when I was like 10, it was one of the first like decent? pocket knives I got as a kid. I totally though the hole was there to spin it around. But on a different note that Gerber knife has an Axis Lock adjacent mechanism. I had forgotten about it, then found it a few years ago after I had gotten more into pocket knives again. and it kinda blew my mind, that being said the action is rough....I'm pretty sure I got it at Academy.

    In Norse myth, Sleipnir is an eight-legged horse ridden by Odin.
    His name means "the slipper" or "slippy" in old Norse.

    A lot of climber carry knives with holes like this, that way they can attach it to their harness so they don't accidentally drop a knife.

    Although I love the overbuilt knives, I'll take a pass on this one. I do have the Gerber you mentioned, and it is the worst pivot. There is no conventional way of adjusting it ( I've tried 😂), and to me, it's pretty much a gimmick.

    They built in Germany now as far as I have seen, they bought all the machines for it, before they didn’t have the money. I have seen this in in Their factory. Maybe some parts of the handle but the blade is German

    • @Thamios

      It is not.. the Sleipnir V2 Folder is made OEM by Kansept in China.
      The only knives we actually still do in house are our fixed blades and even there are some made OEM by fox knives or in luxembourg depending on the model (generally speaking almost every V2 or limited run is made OEM either by fox knives in maniago italy or for folders by kansept in china while the V1‘s/custom blades are done in house here in germany).
      What you can do tho is order a custom blade steel for your fixed/folder (e.g. cpm3v, cpm s30v etc.) where most of them, excluding some special blade metals like magnacut or damascus/damasteel (because of special heat treatment etc.), are also still cut, sharpened and finished here in germany in our own workshop.

    I really, REALLY wanted that knife until I saw it's D2. Even being CPM D2 it's stupid overpriced imo. Give me a better steel and we're gonna make a deal.
    I understand it's a more expensive steel. I still think it's an overpriced knife.

    • @SuperSteelSteve

      I'm curious.
      What about CPMD2 makes it overpriced?
      What would you like to see on it to make it a good value

    • @Falinzin
      @Falinzin 5 месяцев назад

      CPM D2 is fine. It's basically CTM-XHP which is one of my favorite steels by far.

    • @thatrealba
      @thatrealba 5 месяцев назад

      @SuperSteelSteve for me, it's that the steel isn't a stainless. I buy all my knives to be carried and used, so this knife would require more time for care than I think is appropriate for a daily.
      Give me Elmax, MagnaCut, S90V, heck.. S30V, even at a higher price point. Even if this knife price was cut, it still wouldn't be for me. If I'm heading out camping I do intentionally carry one non-stainless, in 1095, but that's for ease of starting fires. And I carry what I need to maintenance it.
      I don't want that for a daily.

    • @thatrealba
      @thatrealba 5 месяцев назад

      @Falinzin I didn't say the steel was bad. I said this knife is overpriced and I want a different steel for it.

    • @SuperSteelSteve
      @SuperSteelSteve 5 месяцев назад

      @thatrealba so non stainless = overpriced. Ok. So m4, k390, cruwear, 3v, 4v ect are out of the question. Would You'd be happy with cpm154?
      But why is it overpriced? Stainlesness isn't a cost issue. Do you mean it's just not for you? I ask because overpriced is a specific claim to the price. You get what I'm saying?
      For instance s30v is cheaper than cpmd2.
